This school is nice however the new principal cares only about the reputation and pleasing other than actually making this school a better, safer, and educational institution. A lot of the performing arts programs are dying out slowly. Its sad to be apart of it and seeing such great programs such as Mariachi and Orchestra die out. The students here are entitled, and rude. Especially towards teacher complaining to them about “difficult” assignments and pushing further due dated even though they do have enough time they get easy work it is the laziness of students in this school and the entitlement of these students thinking that everything should go their way, and a lot of the times if not always it does go their way. There is boys in the girl’s locker room, their Physical Education class (Gym) is a mess. Half of their staff don’t even know each other. The Folklorico teacher is rude and very unorganized. This school allows their dance students to twerk and dance very sexualized dances. The lunch food is disgusting, programs are favored such as STUCO, band, and dance are more funded and taken care of more than other programs that is why other programs are dying out. Teachers swear in their classrooms, a lot of the teachers don’t even teach, students are disgusting they leave their trash everywhere this school does not enforce any rule at all they only take away rights of students and expect them to understand that is a consequence or why they even took it in the first place. The dress code is horrible, there is girls wearing extremely tight clothes, barely any clothes, all of them wear crocs and sandals despite the dangers especially in science or physical classes. Oh? How could I forget? This school waits last minute to tell their students the many opportunities they can get such as the graduation colors, dual-credit classes, honors classes, the classes they need to graduate, the types of classes they need to take for their career’s, that they are missing credits, that they can’t graduate they stop 20 STUDENTS FROM WALKING IN THEIR GRADUATION FOR THE 2023 GRADUATION CEREMONY!!! This school is completely unorganized and disgusting, it was a really good school before 2020.

The Valley High School International Baccalaureate Programme is a hidden jewel. The teachers are dedicated professionals who go out of their way to ensure their students receive high quality instruction. My son (a freshman), who had previously only attended private schools, feels challenged and excited to learn every day. He has been able to play sports and participate in Varsity Quiz and still has plenty of time for homework and projects. The coursework is rigorous but not excessive. The VHS IB Programme produces well rounded students who are prepared for the academic rigor of top universities. I feel fortunate that my son is at this school and I highly recommend the program.

Students have their own unique mannerisms and I think good manners and respect are drilled into every human's mind. It isn't the school's job to teach students how to act/what type of character to take on. But, VHS does try to help students, who are beyond the age of needing instruction in how to treat others and themselves with respect, behave well in social situations.

Some teachers have a passion for their career and work to help students while others suck the life out of their students because they can't stand their profession. It all depends on what type of class you enroll in. Typically, IB/AP/Honors teachers make more of an effort to actually do good for their students.

Teachers give A LOT OF HOMEWORK. They don't realize that a well-rounded student isn't always necessarily glued to the books. However, the loads of homework given prepare students for college coursework so in a sense it isn't entirely horrible.

Valley High School offers three unique magnet programs to students living in the Las Vegas Valley.
Since 1976, Valley High School has been an IB school. The International Baccalaureate (IB) program offers a very rigorous curriculum for students who seek to gain recognition from educational institutions outside of the country. Unfortunately, the IB program is overlooked by most colleges in the United States. It is typically compared to the Advanced Placement (AP) courses offered to students in American high schools since both programs offer students college credit if they score well on the end of year exams. However, unlike AP, IB students have to complete 150 hours of community service so to speak or (CAS), a 4,000 word Extended Essay on a topic of their choice, a 1,500 essay on the Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and at least six "research papers" or internal assessments that correspond for each class they will test out of for college credit. Also, IB exams are offered at two levels: Standard (SL) and Higher (HL). Most colleges do not accept the credit for students who pass their SL exams. In fact, most of the time HL exams that are scored a 5-7 will guarantee students college credit here in the United States. If students pass all six of their IB exams (a 4-7 is a passing score), fulfill the amount of required community service hours (CAS), and score well on both the extended and TOK essay, they receive, along with the Advanced Honors diploma, the IB diploma. You can look into how prestigious and difficult it is to receive the IB diploma but it is an honor for the students who worked hard to achieve it.
The Hospitality and Tourism program is another program at Valley High School. Students in the program work mostly so that they can get jobs here in Las Vegas where the hospitality and tourism industry is central to our economy.
MSTEM is a fairly new program here at Valley. It caters to students who want to join the military after high school and is joined to the Army ROTC faction of the school.
Overall, I was an IB student at VHS and I loved the rigor attached to my curriculum. However, in all honesty, I would advise students not to come to Valley unless they want to pursue the IB program. The other programs are mediocre, the administration is ineffective, and the teacher to student ratio I would say is 30-40:1.

I haven't really seen cases where students are bullied. For the most part, the atmosphere among students is very friendly. We respect each other's beliefs but if someone is caught bullying then they'd get punished severely because the administration doesn't play around when it comes to misconduct.

The IB Programme requires students to participate in community service projects and the IB curriculum lends itself to developing integrity, compassion and respect in its students.

The IB teachers at VHS work very hard to challenge and engage their students. There are excellent teachers at Valley High School.

IB Programme homework is rigorous and challenging. The projects assigned to the students are educational and engaging.
