While my son attended pre-K here for a short amount of time I was disappointed one day when I decided to volunteer in my sons classroom. My son was noted by child find to have a developmental delay and as his mother I can see my son has a short attention span. While being in the classroom they let my son wonder and his teacher told me that they just let him go. Was hurt to see he wasn’t learning by any of the 4 teachers in his classroom.

While the teachers are superb , the kids misbehave, are told by administration that there will be consequences, but they always are allowed to earn everything back. This sets the standard ...why bother to behave ever? There is almost too much sympathy for kids. Hardship is one thing but that should not give carte blanche to misbehaviors.

The teaching staff is excellent at Whitney, but I feel there needs to be a better handling of student misbehavior. Establishing a tolerance level of acceptable conduct the first day of school would enhance learning throughout the remainder of the school year. What currently happens is teachers are adjusting to student behaviors instead vice versa. The desire to not offend the student seems to be the preferred method, or letting the students call the shots. This problem only increases as these same problem children move up thru the system. Is it any wonder the graduation rates in Las Vegas are so low? Behavior standards need to change. Discipline in the classroom is a main factor in a quality education. Just ask the private schools how they operate.

My children have been to many schools around the world. Whitney is THE worst school they have ever attended. This school is more about socialism and teaching children to be reliant on handouts instead of giving them a quality education to better themselves. If the principal and staff spent half the time on educating as they do begging for money or fund raising it would have the potential to be a mediocre school.

It has been my pleasure to work at this school. I teach wonderful children and have enjoyed good relationships with many of my parents. You can't beat the principal's energy or dedication to our kids. My children have been hungry - from us, they get fed not only at school but with food bags and bread and full meals that they take home. My children have come to school wearing clothes that don't fit and shoes with holes - from us, they get clothing and shoes. My children's birthdays get recognized as well as Christmas. And, in meeting their emotional and material needs they are better able to learn. Finally, great staff and some incredibly funny teachers. Saw a posting about cleanliness - can't speak to what may have been true years ago, but our custodial staff is amazing and the school is spotless.

whitney is not the best school, i have 2 children that go there and the office staff are very very rude when calling on the phone and when i take my children out of school early they are also very rude, like i can't do what i have to do. i'm not a big fan of Whitney elementary.

I'm a staff member in the Eugene, OR school district and watched Ellen when your principal was on her show. Please remind me what their Friday's are called. They wear t-shirts, etc. to promote school spirit.

The school would be great if night custodians actually do their jobs - this school is dirtiest of all. Also the principal need to learn how to treat her co-workers and other district employees.
