Lummis Elementary school is a place where students are provided with experiences to enrich their minds, social skills and learn to be outstanding citizens in the community. Students are surrounded by faculty who demonstrate exceptional dedication to their profession. Community outreach experiences provide Lummis Lasers with an opportunity to look past themselves and find joy in caring for others. The PTA is a wonderful bridge between school and home- always organizing activities to engage families in their students education. The administration is passionate about what’s best for kids. They set high expectations for behavior, which has unfortunately become lax in other schools. This allows for maximized learning time with minimized interruptions. If you are looking for a place to be an equal partner in your child’s education and part of a community with a shared focus on creating life long learners, Lummis is the place for you.

This school was horrible and did not do right by our child in kindergarten.

Education: Our child is advanced and we put a lot of time into teaching them on our own. When we met with the principle at the beginning of the year we were promised that they would have (1) special dedicated time using a math learning program that was adjusted to their level and (2) at least weekly reading groups. The math program did not happen once and the reading group stopped after about 1-2 months and never resumed. We raised concerns repeatedly and every promise they made never happened. We eventually accepted that school this year was for social time, we would teach them at home, and they could go to a new school next year. By the end of the year there were other kids in the class that still didn't know the alphabet or letter sounds!

Teacher/Staff: The teacher left after a month and they then gave us a series of rotating "permanent" teachers. They kept promising that they were permanent but inevitably after 1-2 months they would change again. One was so bad that the teachers own mother (a former teacher themselves) had to come in and help. The teachers gave ZERO attention to our child. Our year end report card to summarize how he did for the year was clearly copy and pasted for every student - nothing specific to him and just generic recommendations to practice things he could do two years ago. The teacher additionally couldn't handle a couple disruptive students and literally did not allow them to run at recess.

They did construction all year and had them in/out of portables. There were homeless coming out of one of the sewer tunnels next to the school. The office does not pick up or return calls. You have to physically show up in person to get anything done. I could write an entire essay about how terrible this school was but just suffice it to say: they did not care about our child and they did not do right by them.

Never send your child here!

this elementary school is the hidden gem of Summerlin. The school was built and gifted by Howard Hughes and in 2024-25’ was completely renovated. The teachers are amazing and the retention rate is very high which tells you alot of the staff. Lummis has been rated as a top 5 school in Las Vegas and has great student testing performance rating. Tons of before and after school activities. We have ben beyond pleased with our children’s experience at this school (as well as becker too, the feeder MS)

If you ever have to communicate with principal or assistant principal at this school, make sure to get everything in writing. Never discuss anything with them in person or over the phone. They are notorious about twisting the facts and putting all the blame on the child which is laughable at best. I’m not saying that kids never do anything wrong, they do, but this is where adults come in. Behavior is a skill, not a will and it needs to be taught just like any other skill. And most kids, unfortunately, have to spend more time at school than at home. I wish the current new principal cared at least a little about the impact her punitive discipline has on young minds. Kids at this school constantly get punished for being… kids. Make sure you send your kids to a school where providing a safe learning environment is of outmost importance, and where they are praised and encouraged instead of being belittled and disrespected and have no voice only because the principle is “tired because she has hundreds of them (kids) running around school”. Find some other school where they have time and patience your kids deserve.

Outstanding school! It’s a little hidden gem in Summerlin!
Feels like a family reunion when you step foot on campus. Teachers are warm and caring, support staff and administrators are all very kind and welcoming. Class sizes are excellent and allow for enriched learning opportunities for all levels of learners.
We are so grateful to have our children attend William Lummis Elementary School.

They have an impossible job. Serving education to everyone in this day of specialized IPs. They lack the Personel to effectively provide one one Support. They drove our child’s self esteem into the ground. It just isn’t a good place for children with ADHD

If your kid has an IEP and are hoping this school will stay on task, you better do routine meetings to make sure they follow it because apparently it is very difficult for them to provide one on one support.

I disagree with the bullying reports not being investigated. The letters and phone calls went home first...then an investigation, which was unfounded...thank goodness! It is called being proactive. I have had great experiences with the school even when my child has been on the discipline side. The administration is fair and really lets the parents share their side of the story.

I am unsure about the integrity of this school based on the staff that runs it. I have lived in Las Vegas my entire life and have always dealt the CCSD, and this is by far my WORST experience ever.

I am extremely disappointed in this school's office staff. They are so rude and unprofessional and very insincere. Every time some one answers the phone they seem inconvenienced to answer a question or help. I have heard this from other mothers as well. This is the first year my children have attended this school and from day one trying to get them registered there was a joke. After calling over the summer at least 20 times when they should be open and being stared at through the windows by the office staff at the front doors and them not even acknowledging the fact that I was standing there 30 minutes before they closed, I knew I should have not enrolled my boys there. I am not sure why they seem to think they are better then others and why they don't have time to address or help the PARENTS of the students who attend their school is beyond me. I called to check on my kids and I was told she couldn't check on them. She couldn't even tell me if my kids were in their classrooms....WHAT!? NO WAY! What if there was ever an emergency, good luck dealing with that staff or being able to check on your child! I will be moving schools next year without a doubt. This is nothing against the teachers..just the office staff needing to learn some people skills.

My husband and I have loved having our children attend Lummis. We came from another school nearby and when we moved, I was only hoping for equal standards. I can honestly say that Lummis has exceeded our expectations and the teachers that my children have had over the past two years have brought me to tears a few times with the love they have for the students. They seem to truly enjoy teaching, making a difference and what I love most is that they care about every student in not only their own class, but every class. Every teacher treats the kids with respect and it is obvious that it comes from the heart. We are very happy!

I'm I am one of the students that go to lummis and ever since kindergarten lummis has always been there for me. Lummis is an amazing school was amazing teachers. I have learn so much in the past year there. But now since I'm leaving to 6th grade I hope we will always exceeds our standards and show students to be kind thanks you so much lummis. ?

For the area, this is definitely the best school. We came from another state with a much better school. My daughters were both in accelerated classes but the schools here (Lummis & Becker) refused to test them, look at their previous scores, or put them in accelerated classes. As a result, my daughters have not been challenged to the extent they should/could be. Still, if one is going to live in Vegas, this is undoubtedly the best place to be. And the teachers, staff, parents, & kids are wonderful.

We love Lummis elementary school. I have 2 children attending Lummis who are very different in their talents and abilities. each one is challenged by their teachers and given the proper attention to maximize their learning. The gate program has been very good and the battle of the books is a fantastic program to encourage literacy. Lummis has been a wonderful school and We are very happy with the school, teachers and administration.

As a teacher and parent, I highly recommend this school and community to anyone looking to move to Las Vegas or within Las Vegas. The staff is amazing and the school community as a whole is so inviting. If you are looking for a school for your kids to feel safe, happy and receive an outstanding education, Lummis fits all the criteria.

I really don't know what the author of the June entry is talking about. My daughter so far has had an amazing K-3 experience at this school. Her kinder teacher hatched chicks, every year her class put on a play, teachers individualize instruction to meet the needs of each child, and school is fun! Her teachers were experienced, kind, and truly outstanding. Students are not allowed to push into the lunchroom, and it is important to note that it is a district-wide policy to play first / eat second. Students do need to eat rather quickly to finish on time, but that's everywhere. Pit bulls?!? Dogs are not allowed on any school campus in this district. The only comment I'd agree with is the one about the old copiers, which is really due to insufficient education funding, not the school itself. Despite budget cuts and increases in class size over the last few years, this school continues to be excellent thanks to the awesome PTA and amazing staff.
