I’ve had children at this school since it was APA, and I initially supported the vision that was shared during the transition to Amplus. I remember sitting in meetings with administration where it was said that the school would not send a child home for something as small as wearing the wrong shoes or not having a name tag. That vision resonated with me, a school that values students beyond strict appearances.

Unfortunately, that is not the school environment today.

Discipline has become the overwhelming focus, and it feels more like a military school than a learning environment. The smallest infractions now result in extreme consequences, including RPCs, even for students who are otherwise respectful, well-behaved, and academically solid. Both of my children, who fit that description, have been RPC’d for things I honestly never would have expected, and it’s disheartening as a parent.

There’s also a noticeable lack of accountability on the part of staff. I’ve volunteered on campus and have witnessed teachers speaking to students in a disrespectful and hostile manner, often yelling or escalating minor issues like missing name tags. These interactions don’t promote learning or growth, they create fear and tension.

It’s clear to me that the current priority is control, not education. The focus on enforcing rules overshadows efforts to foster a supportive or inspiring academic environment. As a result, both of my children have grown unhappy at school. One has already been withdrawn, and I am currently in the process of removing the other.

I truly hope the school can revisit the values it once promoted, respect, understanding, and genuine care for students’ well-being. The current approach is doing more harm than good.

This school is decent, but I don't recommend going to it as a current student. Although they fit every standard of a good school, they do everything else poorly. In my experience, I don't feel excited at all for any assignments, and the teachers in the school push us to fit the standard they established. I've seen only little help to students' mental help, and they only give us independent tasks to do with our family, and expect us to do it: for example, reading logs or pacing guide signing. To expand upon that, did you know that teachers constantly threaten us to send us to the office? Well, overall and again, I do not recommend going to this school.

Not a good school. Staff is disrespectful and they care too much about things that don’t matter more than they care about the students and education. It’s a mess and the school system is all over the place. I recommend sending your student to a school that knows what they’re doing.

There are some good kids, but a lot of them are bullies. I’ve heard kids say explicitly racist, sexist, homophobic, and ableistic things in front of teachers who pretended not to hear it. Lots of the kids are highly disrespectful. They need to enforce what the “Builder” speech is all about.

Posted: June 16, 2020

As I said before, they don’t enforce discipline on teachers. They don’t enforce discipline with bullies. The administration brushes it off and ignores that the problem existed.

These are the ugly truths that needed to be told, but I’m the only one who is actually brave enough to say something. The bad outweighs the good, and I’m an optimist. I went to this school for one year. I feel as though I’ve lost a year of my life. If your student goes here, please let them talk to you and open up about what is actually happening here. Save your time and go to a normal public school. I would go into detail on these experiences, but some of them may be truths that are hard to handle.

I used to go to this school. They constantly gave lots of tedious work that seems highly unnecessary.

Many values including honesty, integrity, trustworthiness, enthusiasm, etc are the only types of attitudes and character students are expected to show. When these students don’t portray these examples they are urgently sent to the principal to change their attutude and find the reason why they act a certain way.

Posted: November 7, 2018

All teachers demonstrate values of integrity and being a leader and reliable especially when students need emotional attention they always step in. Teachers give students examples of how to have integrity and always are caught doing good.

Posted: November 7, 2018

Many students are in different levels in different subjects and certain tests are taken to ensure a student can handle a class and that it is a little challenging for them to succeed when they move on to the next level. Teachers are determined to help students when they have a hard time learning and/or struggling with certain topics.

Posted: November 7, 2018

If bullying is seen or done, online or in school it is immediately brought to the attention of the principal and the principal decides what the student has to receive as their consequence. They always check on the bullied student to see how he or she is doing and make sure the bully isn’t in a harsh condition in or out of school. People who bully at APA are either suspended or expelled depending on circumstances.

I have attended this school for five years and will attend until senior year not only because of the amazing curriculum but because of how hard this school pushes us in education, testing, and sports.

Posted: November 7, 2018

Teachers encourage students to be diligent in homework to achieve good scores in tests and quizzes. Homework and studying benefits us as students to understand hard topics and comprehend what is given to us.

Posted: November 7, 2018

Teachers put in their rbest effort in helping students with class work and homework, or whenever a student doesn’t understand something. Teachers offer before and after school help which gives students a wider variety to succeed.

This school has far too much homework of poor quality to be feasible for the proper age groups. They don't work with special needs kids, they make it hard on parents so they have to pull their kids out. They don't appropriately deal with bullying, even though they talk about it at school, they don't enforce any sort of punishment when it actually happens.

It is simply a great school my daughter has been transferred from public school to oakey campus she loved it

Posted: January 6, 2016

I love this school! We transferred out of a highly rated public school to attend APA. It was the best move we ever made. My daughter is in kindergarten and she is already learning how to write in cursive and her math skills have really blown me away. The teachers are highly involved and they truly care about their students. The staff is small, thus everyone knows everyone making APA a family. The principle is highly involved and is always available to you. I could not be happier with this school. My daughter is receiving a first rate education. We plan on attending all the way through high school!

Posted: January 6, 2016

Posted: January 6, 2016

There is a fair amount of homework, however, it is not too much. The students that attend APA are expected to excel academically.

These Teachers are encouraging, patient, kind very hands on. They will work with you and your child to help him keep up with the pace, get an understanding of their school work and do what is necessary to make sure he gets it and not pushed through the system. I saw first hand that they also go through yearly training as well.

We as Parents want our children to succeed, but when it comes down to receiving the tools they need, then we complain its too much. Our children need to b challenged in order to keep up with tomorrows expectations. I'm a single Mom that makes sure his homework is done. I sit with him while he does his home work. I constantly communicate with his Teacher verbally, e-mail, or in person. I don't complain. I ask what can I do to help him. Most Parents want the child to just get the homework (able to do it themselves) , and when the child doesn't understand and ask us for help, and (we don't understand) we get frustrated and say it's too much homework because most of us do not wish to go the extra mile and get the extra help they need. I do go the extra mile. I sacrifice everything to make sure he gets the tools he needs to succeed, and having the homework they give him challenges him, and lets him know what he will be dealing with in the Adult World when he goes out to get him a Good Paying Job.

At APA, they specifically teach kids how to respect their elders, say yes and no ma'am and yes and no sir. How to look someone in the eyes when speaking and shaking their hands with someone. They have an Ambassador Class that teaches the kids all the right tools on how to walk, talk and dress for success. Excellent Program...

My son started out at a 4th grade level reading, and math coming from Public Schools. Since going to APA, his self esteem has improved, he loves going to School, he enjoys doing his homework, (challenging as it may be), and his grades went from D's and F's to C's through A's. He loves this School and so do I. The atmosphere and people are very Positive and encouraging to not only Students, but Parents as well, and very patient with each Student. Especially my son ,because he works slow. Love the Teachers, Love the School..!!!!!! Highly Recommend..

My son went from absorbing almost nothing in Kindergarten at his last school to excelling and becoming builder (student) of the month at APA. He has ADHD, and they have been very accommodating. They are still working out some of the minor bugs, but I see progress daily. I am blessed to have my child attend APA LV! I love that they teach to the children's potential and true abilities. They also have an ambassador program that teaches children social graces and etiquette. It's an all around wonderful school!

Every school seems to give too much homework these days, but it's needed to teach to the standardized tests required by the gov't. I don't agree with either, and homework is proven not to improve grades.

Posted: September 9, 2015

That is part of their core. The also have an ambassador program that teaches students manners and proper etiquette.

I cannot say enough good things about APA. I have a second and fourth grader there this year. The teachers and staff are truly committed to doing what is best for the students. The systems and routines definitely differ from a traditional school and these things are what make the students succeed. While there is not before or after school care on campus there are two separate daycare facilities that offer care with drop off and pick up to the school. With the addition of the new campus this fall many more things will be offered by the school. This first year was somewhat difficult but well worth it and to be expected the first year of a charter school.

Overall a wonderful school offering a classical education. The academics and curriculum are excellent and students are challenged to excel in academics and in character. The teachers, administration and staff are enthusiastic and communicative. Prior to enrolling at American Prep our children had attended private schools and the quality of education is just as good or better at American Prep. This year, several parents have observed that the population is not as diverse as other schools, the student body as well as the staff seem to predominantly be Mormon. While I am not Mormon, we do appreciate Mormon values and there is definitely a Mormon influence at the school. As with any school, there's always room for improvement. No before or after care is very limiting. I suspect that not having this option available does impact the lack of diversity at the school as many of the families seem to already have support networks in place and many of the mother's seem to be stay at home mom's. Just an observation. Overall, a fantastic school and I feel that we are very fortunate to have our children attend.

I love how this school focus on Academics and also Character building, my child comes home happy and disciplined. I love that they focus on positivity and have groups for all subjects so they can be pushed to their abilities, no one is ever behind! This is a charter school run like a private school. Love it and sad that I have to move :(
