Our daughters began in Kindergarten and have finished elementary school, so we have been at founders for over 5 years. We love the classical education style and dimensions math. The structure helps to create well-rounded students. We have experienced very little bullying with FCALV leadership getting involved early on to prevent further instances. The teachers are invested, and most bring their own children to the school. The phonics based reading program has done wonders for our children. They really teach the English language foundation, which has fostered reading and critical thinking in our kids. Because each grade has only 4 classrooms, we know most of the parents and other children. It really feels like a small school with very involved parents. We love the community.
Our only concern is with the growth of programs as our kids approach middle and high school. We are hoping for the school to continue growing in order to add more academic programs, AP courses and/or dual enrollment, and academic-based extracurriculars. There is a lack of emphasis on sports at the school, which we find refreshing. However, students are out of class early enough to participate in programs available at other schools and leagues.
We would recommend FCALV to other parents. If possible, get your children in early or they will be catching up on the philosophy and educational instruction. The inclusion of latin beginning in 7th grade is wonderful, but really needs the foundation from elementary school to excel. I've heard that the school is difficult for students transferring in after 6th grade. However, I also know parents that have had very successful experiences with their child's academics once they began at FCALV. The school promotes core values and helps when students fall behind in specific subjects.

We enjoy this school and the compassion of its teachers. This school was especially effective in dealing with the pandemic emergency, and we were grateful compared to parents at other CC SD schools.

Very hands on and never seems anything students cannot do on their very own.

Teachers share curriculum and provide reasoning and justification. No straight memorizing! My kindergarteners knew sophisticated grammar rules, and used them to learn how to read.

Students learn an honor code and spend ample time understanding its significance in America.

Could be more progressive leadership, but it's ok.

Excellent! This is a great school with a classical education focus that values character development and high educational standards.

I am disappointed in myself as a parent for allowing my children to have to endure the constant berating, bullying and ridiculing. We were promised a great education but it just seems that Founders is more worried about the uniforms policy that is changing multiple time a year, than the actual students.

You have a handful of teachers that are great but this school has a HUGE turn around and can't keep "teachers". They finally hire new ones, last minute, but they don't even understand the material being taught here so how can they teach these students. Another problem is they have a high number of "long term subs" that have no intention of getting their teaching degree. They lack the basic child development classes to help relate to your child.

They tear down the kid's character and spirits.
Integrity, compassion and respect are just words and pilars they have to memorize but I have seen first hand teachers lie straight to students and parent's faces so they learn by watching.

Administration has no backbone and can't handle the bullying, students, or teachers.
Posted: August 13, 2018
Absolutely NOT! If you have any challenges or struggles the school really has no idea what to do to help you and you fall under the radar.
Posted: August 13, 2018
The bullying is absolutely out of control! We had many meetings with deans, principals, teachers and admin and were told straight to our face that they can't do anything. "Sorry but the plans we are working on will not help your kid, now."
Our children have attended for the last 4 years, so this is nothing new at Founders. My children learned that no one will help them there.

Dear Founders Academy of Las Vegas Community:
On behalf of the Academy staff, teachers, and administrators, I wanted to thank our current and past parents for their participation in these online reviews. We value your opinion and encourage parents to share praise and concerns with the schools administration. Our goal is to work together with all families to ensure a high-quality education for all our students while integrating the core values that are embedded in our 8 Pillars Cooperation, Citizenship, Courage, Honesty, Integrity, Perseverance, Respect, and Responsibility.
Since I began my tenure as a new principal in August 2017, we have worked tirelessly and continuously to improve our school operations and academic focus to achieve our mission to train the minds and improve the hearts of young people through a rigorous, classical education in the liberal arts and sciences, with instruction in the principles of moral character and civic virtue. At Founders Academy of Las Vegas, we focus on the many positives and accomplishments while mindful that we work diligently each day to improve our schools management and professional practice. This is a perpetual effort focused on always working to be better!
My administrative team and I look forward to an open dialog with our community and remind you that our doors are open to positive and proactive conversations on school improvement. We are a community of over 620 students with expected continued growth near 700 students next school year with our new school building and its construction to be completed Spring 2018.
Our schools contact information is located on our website at foundersacademy.com as well as links to all support, instructional, and administrative staff. Additionally, Founders Academy of Las Vegas has monthly Parent Roundtable meetings on the first Wednesday of each month at 3 p.m. in the MP Room.
To close, we want our community to know our goal is to regularly work to find satisfactory and reasonable resolutions to parent concerns. Our school is open to new K-12 student enrollment, including new student Informational Meetings and School Tours. We are transparent and open to a productive discourse with all our community.
Yours in a Classical Education,
Mr. Ron Fick, Principal

Update to my earlier review after I was forced to withdraw my son from K class. To those who are complaining about other parents "bashing" the school, I'd like to tell that this place if for bringing reviews based on personal experiences with the school/teachers. Criticizing other parents' opinion only because your child found a wonderful teacher hence all teachers are great sounds more like you are pandering since parents cannot have an insight of what happens in every class. That said I do consider Founders ' academic among the best offered in Vegas, it does not mean that some teachers are worth of such a program. After withdrawing my child I had the opportunity to speak with the former principal, who does not recall so called disciplinary actions like shaming a kid (here we are talking of 5 year old kids, not 12th grader) by sending him or her to the back of the room or using words led to belittle them. I also talked to teachers, both from ccsd and other charters, none agreed on the actions normally used by the teachers my child had. For those ignorant on the basic principles of pedagogy and classic education, it would be useful to know that neither suggests a kid to be belittled and ridiculed. The brain of a five year old is different from the brain for a 15 year old. The brain of a five year old boy is way different than thst of a five year old girl and a teacher who cannot handle such differences and expects instead to have a bunch of compliant drudges has a problem. Since I'm not the only one who compalained about these teachers maybe we are not simply bashing.

Great school, however my experience is negative due to the poor methods of my child's teachers.

This is an update to my earlier review and my child has started school there officially. I do like their methods. No it may not be for everyone, however, I am not sure why everyone is bashing it? If its not for your child then pull your child out, they aren't going to change their rules. They are strict and demand respect which is hard to come by in the world today let alone schools. They are great with the kids in my opinion and my daughters teacher is great!

Because they do not overwhelm the parent or student. My child is prepared to do her homework and knows the work and is never confused.
Posted: October 26, 2017
Her teacher demands respect in a good way. That is something you don't see anymore in the public school system. They are taught young about real life and that not everyone gets a "reward".

Posted: October 26, 2017
I have had no issues with this element thus far.
Posted: October 26, 2017
The school its self demands respect all around, for adults, for other students and for the students themselves. They are made to know that actions (bad or good) have consequences (bad or good) which is HOW LIFE REALLY WORKS.
Posted: October 26, 2017
My child has not been bullied so I can not offer insight on how they deal with it.
Posted: September 28, 2017
Very poor. The student comes last and their process comes first.

Kinder teacher, excessively disciplines boys to the point it negitivley impacts their education. The school/principle does not care.
Posted: September 28, 2017
They are only trying to make compliant, personality free students.
Posted: September 28, 2017
Only thing the leadership cares about is the process of daily school activities not education.

They do groups and allow students to move ahead or stay back to fit their level of comfort and push them for success.

We love this school and our son cannot wait to start school. He was ready for the next grade the day after the last day of school. This whole summer he has been counting down the days. Teachers are great and the kids are well mannered up to 12th grade. Love the curriculum and no common core nonsense.
