I was so excited to get my son into this school. He is a huge fan of the arts and excels at them. Unfortunately his first year here (1st) COVID put a stop to it. I was very unhappy with the children not being allowed to attend school in person, but I did end up loving his teacher (Ms. Chickering) who was amazing! I was excited when they got to go back, even though it was with masks on their faces (abuse). Then finding out they were getting an extra month I was very happy because my son needed it. Little did I know that would be cut short by emotional abuse from the staff. Convincing children who are not sick that they are is wrong. Allowing a sick child in and then punishing all the others because of their mistake. My son is not sick and would not be sent if he was, yet he is being forced to miss school which he loves or be sent to the sick room. A healthy child being sent to a room for those who are sick. My healthy son was forced to leave school crying and asking me what he did wrong that he had to leave. These administrators have no interest in what is best for these students. They should be removed from their positions for being abusive to children.

One of the greatest elementary magnet school I have known. Even its Pandemic the staff strive to do the best they can to follow modules and online schedule to teach for the students. I am thankful my daughter was been accepted in Gilbert Academy and spent her elementary days so very special. My daughter had good experience and memories and im thankful for it. Highly recommended for parents whos looking for the best school in Nevada. All staff are accomodating and professional, giving all their best in giving education to students! Safety is also the top priority the school is implementing. Mr.Matthew Jackson (Principal) is the best I can not say anything but THANK YOU! You did a great job and may you continue to become a leader to your colleagues! Salute to all GIRAFFES and all staff!

I had such high hopes for this school. Arts education is nice but academics seriously lacking & students are suffering for it. Principal does not seem motivated to improve these problems & does not communicate issues with parents.

My daughters teacher has been absent for 5 consecutive weeks now, they have had NO homework for 5 weeks
Posted: March 7, 2020
Chronically absent teachers & principal who does not communicate this to parents or do anything about it

Principal is not effective in supporting students when teacher is absent, allows students to be ignored & fall by wayside with subs & inconsistent lessons.

My daughter went to this school going on 12 years ago...She loved it so much and continued in the maganet schools until she graduated with honors few years ago. Now my son is about to attend starting 1st grade and I am very excited. My daughter had told me Gilbert is the reason why she feel in love with leaning...

The staff is very supportive of their students and each other. Gilbert Magnet promotes the arts and creativity.

This probably isn't a fair question, because I am opposed to the idea of homework in general. I have noticed the amount of homework vary from grade level to grade level. It seems to get more intense in the upper grades. It also depends upon the type of homework; for example, 4th grade has students do different book projects throughout the year, and I think my child learned a lot by doing these projects, both in terms of content and creativity, and in time management for projects of this nature.

I send my children to Gilbert for all the "extras" they receive - news, matinees, school chorus, drum team, barred instrument group, West African Dance group, track team, etc. Yes, they are learning reading, writing, and math - but more importantly, they are learning poise, confidence, and how the arts play a role in their everyday lives.

This is our 2nd year at Gilbert and I cannot say anything bad about this school except that it isn't fenced all the way in secure. That said The principal is amazing, the front office staff is always so nice and helpful, the teachers are fantastic and the extra programs are so much fun! My daughter has been to 4 schools in her 5 years and this is her most favorite. She loves it so much. I think more schools should be art based!

this school called me 2 weeks into the school year saying we "won" a spot.Come to find out the spot was in a learning disability class a full year behind the gen ed class my son was in. My son was a warm body in a desk to them nothing more.

I went to Gilbert for the fives years of elementary school. It was my home away from home. My last year there we won the Number One Magnet School in The NATION award. My experience was absolutely incredible. The teachers and staff are kind and very helpful. The challenging curriculum should hopefully improve and widen your child's imagination and knowledge. If you are looking for an elementary school for your child, Gilbert is the way to go.

My granddaughter attends Gilbert - she is in 2nd grade and LOVES it! She attended last year as well. She is excelling in all her subjects and most important - she loves school and takes great pride in her work - even at such a tender age. This school is God's gift to our family and we feel very fortunate for her to be able to attend here.

This is a great school. They have a lot going on- music, two plays each year, etc. They have the absolute best P.E. teacher in the world. All the teachers are good, and some are great. Wonderful office staff. Don't be put off by low test scores of the school. It's in a lower-income area and families zoned for this school don't have to do the lottery to get into it. Those who have to put their child's name in the lottery are very, very lucky to get in, and everyone knows it! This is definately one of the best elementary schools in Vegas

I appreciate the information passed on from the previous poster as this poster stated that they are a parent and a teacher. As I stated previously in my first post, my unhappiness has nothing to do with Common Core Standards, grades or the amount of pressure that the teachers are under. It has to do with basic common courtesy and respect for individuals and for the parents/tax payers of this community. Again I would love to write a more positive review and hopefully will be able to do so in the future.

My child joined Gilbert friends at in second grade and is extremely happy there and with great grades. Previous poster needs to understand that the school district has adopted a new set of standards this year (look up Common Core State Standards) and NCLB scores are forever expected to go up. (I'm a teacher at another school). Teachers are under a great amount of pressure to do too many things at once. Gilbert manages to make school fun and engaging despite the drill and kill atmosphere that pervades education these days.
