I have sent two children through this school, my 2nd daughter is in 5th grade. 9 years, 2 principals. All of the teachers both girls had are experienced and ranged from very good to amazing. There are so many extracurriculars offered for free at this school to include an after school musical theater program both my daughters performed in Annie, 101 Dalmatians, and Finding Nemo. There is a Chess club, Art Club, Ukele Orchestra (my kid gets to play her clarinet there) and a Harry Potter book club on Wednesdays before school. Both of my daughters had teachers who would tutor them before or after school. There is not a big turnover of teachers and they are accessible and very good. The front office has been easy to work with. I only had one negative interaction in the past 9 years so I think that was a one-off situation. My daughter has the opportunity to go to Sea Camp as a 5th grader as well. This school goes above and beyond to create a positive learning environment that gets kids excited to attend school. I cannot believe how many enriching activities they offer for free to the kids. Great staff from principal on down and I would highly recommend this school.

Having teachers who go above and beyond (my sons class is a pirate ship and my daughter's class is Hogwarts) has made my children want to attend and engage every single day

We moved here and our child attended 4th and 5th grade. He enjoyed the school, his teachers and the after school activities of chess and theater club. We had a very good experience for the 2 years he was attending.

This school is in such a great area but unfortunately the staff is not the best. My daughter teacher tries so hard to engage with her students but her superintendent shows no support. The front office staff is completely rude. They made my Latino mother feel uncomfortable by mocking her English. It honestly was disgusting. The school has constant bulling situations.

I have 2 children who attend this school, we have been going here for a few years now and I can honestly say I have had more negative interactions with staff than positive ones.
Good luck speaking to the front desk.. the main lady (I won't say her name) but she is just so rude. Immediately answers the phone with attitude...rolls her eyes when you walk into the office asking to speak with someone. Teachers can be rude and dismissive. I have tried to reach out through class dojo, they only use it to tell parents what they need donated or what students are doing wrong. You rearly get a response back that answers your questions or concerns.

Overall, a very good school. I think the principal is doing a good job and the teachers all seem to be engaged and care. We have had about 5 teachers so far and all have been good, with 2 that were amazing.

Homework is assigned nightly, not too much on weekends.

All teachers are good, however there are few great teachers at this school. My 3rd grader was in a Harry Potter book club on Thursdays run by an amazing kinder teacher. Her 3rd grade teacher was awesome, even tutored kids after school for free. Other teachers were good, they do care about the kids. Good communication and responsiveness.

School is good with promoting respect. Kids get "golden tickets" when they are caught doing nice things for others. My kids love tickets!

Principal is highly visible and available for you to walk up to and chat with. Same for Asst. Principal. They are not hiding in offices and seem to be working pretty hard to make school events run smoothly.

Don't have experience with this issue so won't comment.

I have not had issues with my kids being bullied. Not heard of major problems from other parents. My daughter's 2nd grade teacher actually spoke to me about an issue with my daughter being bullied before I really knew about it and had a plan to address the problem.

Overall, I have very good and wholesome experiences with Betsy Rhodes since both boys were in kindergarten to 5th. Rhodes is their Alma Mater in elementary. I am also an educator, and I know how the school & staff at school perform to all students. Students are being encouraged & motivated to learn. I love working with my boys' teachers every year. Couldn't ask for more. Ms. Lucero did a great job leading the school, as well as her constituents.

Teachers are highly qualified, veterans in teaching, and they teach by heart.

Students are involved in wholesome activities that promote awareness and tolerance. The theme of their books are mostly geared towards social justice and fairness. How do I know it, that's when parents are involved on what their kids are learning, that's when you know.

I have tried to mention that I think my son is bored as he know a lot of the stuff they are teaching, but it falls on deaf ears. He is expected to be at the same level as everyone else. I literally have to make his HW a challenge with a timer to get him to feel like it worth him doing.

I would not recommend this school with the 1 teacher my so. Has had the most contact with. Which is why he will not be going here next year. She has taken a student who lived learning and now hates school. He has nightmares of teacher screaming at him! That is not to say that other teachers wouldnt be better. But my experience has me pulling my child to another school.

My sons current teacher gives him HW we make sure it gets done and she can not be bothered to collect out of the folder!
Posted: March 5, 2019
He has a new teacher who constantly yells and finds this a effective teaching method. She talks about all the things she will do to help, but never follows through. She never has any positive feedback for my son only tells him how bad he is. I have never once received a positive report from her with his behavior. Yet his grades are greats!

My kids started first grade here and I am very happy with how the teachers and staff welcome my children and making sure all students are safe and taken care of. GREAT school

Definitely one of the worst elementary schools thus far! They're all about money. They have multiple fund raisers a month and send your child home with the flyer THE DAY BEFORE. Their staff is disrespectful and unknowledgeable and when trying to get something resolved you either get hung up on or told Oh well. If that's not bad enough, the teachers are worse than front desk staff! Their uncoordinated and can't control their students. On field day the students were running all around calling other students names and hitting one another and the teachers did nothing about it.
Posted: May 31, 2017
Based on kindergarten knowledge, they had homework but it wasn't mandatory nor challenging.
Posted: May 31, 2017
They don't teach their students personal space nor appropriate language. They allow the students to walk around calling other students names and bullying.
Posted: May 31, 2017
They don't teach better student interaction. These kids walk around calling each other names and bullying. When a student tries to speak up about it, they're advised "no tattle telling"
Posted: May 31, 2017
No one takes responsibility for their actions. They always have an excuse for their shortcomings.
Posted: May 31, 2017
When a student is lacking or slower than their peers the teachers become condescending to the student and make them feel not smart.
Posted: May 31, 2017
They let students walk around calling other students meany, stupid, dumb, ugly, etc

My son attends full day pre-k program and they are amazing! He comes home every day with a new project that he made! This school has a new principal and so far I love it! I just wished his teacher can use ClassDojo a bit more, this way I can be at ease regarding his behaviors with others. Other than that, I like it!

I have 2 children who attend or attended this school and we love it!! The previous prinicpal was good, but, our new principal is AWESOME!! We've been affiliated with this school for many years and some years have definitely been better than others. However, since the new principal came on board last year I feel there has been a shift in the universe. She's been a great addition and asset to this school. She is VERY involved and hands on. We think the PTO is much better organized than in previous yrs. and think they are doing a great job, too! We look forward to our daughter going to school here through the 5th grade!!

My son and daughter, ages 10 and 7 have gone to school here since my son was in 2nd grade and he has been picked on and bullied all the time he's been there and no one will take it seriously. We have seen our sons mood worsen and he hates to go because of this. We've discussed putting him in a private school but the way finances are it's not possible. Home schooling isn't possile either because of work hours. We just have to hope that when he graduates(hopefully) into Jr. High , the new school will be better.
