Not only was I threatened at this school but the students constantly put me down. Most main staff would put students down, even when I had attempted suicide, the assistant principal had gotten mad at me and had told me that it was for only for attention. No staff member is caring about students mental health and purely focuses on education. School should feel safe and helpful for students.

This school sucks. most of the teachers are rude and disrespect students. I once had a teach get mad at me for needing to go to the nurse for my diabetes along with two of the teachers being married so after one teacher made us stay behind and everyone had the clean up the mess of 2 students the other teacher tried to give all tardies and detentions. along with the school being poorly built and keep up as if it rains there is a good chance that the halls have 2 feet of water along with bugs and rats. and the lunch system is terrible as you have to line up and if you are too far back by the time you get your food its time to go. and the band sucks there and favor trumpets and leaves other instruments to fend for themselves. the only good thing this school has is the advanced programs but outside of that most teachers suck along with them doing nothing about bad students and most of the students are bad. do not send your kid here

Please do not send your Teens here. They may have cared years ago. read the several reviews from 2018 and before thinking this would be a great school. They really should evaluate and ask the kids and parents every year. Or delete really old surveys from this site because it is very misleading.

When checking the reviews please look at when they were posted. This school has gone VERY downhill. The last review was very spot on. Have only experience 1 good teacher since being apart of the magnet school program.

Great school! I have been at this school for 2 years and I'm currently going into 8th grade. I am in the magnet program and although the teachers hand out a lot of work, they do help me improve my academic skills.

So im a student that is in magnet and the bathrooms stink.the hall bathroom smells like a pool. And one of the most frustrating thing is that they have lockers but dont use them and they didnt bother to change the lockers also one of the halls has no roof windows to keep rain out and last thing there was a dead roatch,a sprider, and a ton of ants so this school is worse than brinly. The only way i see the school better is becouse of homework but other than that it bad

This school is the worst school I've ever sent my child to. First lets talk about the school. Yes, I know the school is over 60 years old, but the bugs there. My daughter has told me there is a rat and bug problem at this school. Another thing is that apparently the roofs always leak when it rains, luckily it doesn't rain a lot here. The teachers at this school do not really teach. My daughter is in the magnet program, so maybe that's why the teachers think that they can just sit back and assign them homework and tests because they're supposed to be excellent in every single subject. The students there at the school are not that great. I'm not talking about the neighborhood kids, I'm talking about the magnet kids. They are always told to be a good example to the neighborhood kids, it's like they are saying they are better than them which is horrible. My daughter is not excellent in every single subject. The kids in her class think they are good in every subject and always share grades. My daughter doesn't get A's on every test she sometimes gets a B. Some of the students who think they are fantastic at everything are really discriminating those who are not good at everything. I do not recommend taking your child here. The positive side though is that they allow you to take lots of high school classes here.
Posted: September 3, 2017
my teachers give a lot of homework way to soon, especially in math and science. But I think that the projects we are working on are really fun, and relates to the subject being taught.
Posted: September 3, 2017
My teachers are the best. Although they are rushed, they are able to be organized and stay on track with the students.
Posted: September 3, 2017
All of the students here who take the magnet program are extremely smart, and they are more advanced in their education. I have a friend who is in 6th grade taking beginning geometry here! They all respect their teachers because they help them get to that level of math.
Posted: September 3, 2017
So far, I've seen a lot of leadership at this school. My orchestra classmates are very confident in what they are doing, and in my math class, there is always someone there to speak out their opinion.
Posted: September 3, 2017
Hyde Park has quite a few students who have disabilities, and they do well teaching and supporting them on their decisions. However, I have seen very rude kids who have judged them out loud in front of others. And no adult was there.
Posted: September 3, 2017
Most of the bullying happens at lunch. My friends have been looked at and judged by zoned students, and I have seen kids, even 6th grade zoned students shout out inappropriate words out loud to other people.
Posted: September 3, 2017
So far, in 6th grade, I have had a good experience. Hyde Park made me feel more comfortable than I had expected on the first day of school. It is almost now the fourth week of school, and I love my classes and the teachers. However, Hyde Park is EXTREMELY un-sanitary and very dirty. Although it is over 60 years old, I really despise the fact that no one bothers to clean anything up. In my math and science class, we found two big spiders in the middle of the floor on the first week of school. There are huge dirt piles in between the legs of the tables, and the floor has a lot of spots of dirt on it as well. Some of the bathrooms have a very disgusting stench, and I once saw a salad on the floor in one of the stalls. There are huge bugs wandering around all over the school, and the bathroom in the lunch room in also in bad condition. In two bathrooms around the school, there is a trash bag on one sink, and the mirrors are very foggy and dirty. The cafeteria floors have dirt all over, and the bathroom stalls have a sewage leak or something. Even the water is dirty because the pipes are so old. The cafeteria food is packed with preservatives and the meat does not look real, and the salad bar doesn't taste fresh. The schedule is also unfair. I have a very busy schedule, and Hyde Park dosen't improve it at all. I have to wake up at 6 in the morning, and I don't have time to eat breakfast, so I have to eat a snack in the car. We have to go to school for 7 hours from 7 to 2 in the afternoon, and we have so much homework that we don't have enough time to do any thing fun with friends. Then, you are so worn out and tired, but you still have a bunch of homework, and by the time you wake up the next day, you don't even have the full nine hours of sleep needed. Finally, my last comment is the neighborhood kids. They are not in the magnet program, so they take the regular curriculum of middle school instead of the 2 year advanced one. They are extremely rude. They shout out foul language at people who didn't do anything to them and they even shout at disabled kids. When they have lunch, They shove and push people away hard, and they don't care if they hurt someone. And although all of them are not like this, all that i have seen are. Almost all of them get detention for being late every day, and most of the girls violate against the dress code. When I walk to the bathrooms more than 20 minutes after class had started, I see groups of boys running down the hallways and slamming locker doors. They also play loud music, the boys wear inappropriate clothing. This school would be way better if it were cleaner, nicer and newer. It is also a be kind school, even though a lot of people had ignored that message.

Every single student gets the same work and the same style of teaching. Nothing is individualized, and everything is just board-required lessons and standardized tests.
Posted: May 25, 2017
Teachers give way too much homework, giving students no time for after-school activities. Magnet students have to wake up at 5:00 am every morning, making it difficult to spend time with family, get enough sleep, exercise, go outside, and still do homework.

I am in 7th grade, and 5 out of my 6 teachers aren't very good. One of them shares her political views and opinions with the class. Another assigns piles of homework, and doesn't give you extra days when you're absent. My science teacher doesn't really teach at all, gives us book work and busy work, and clearly plays favorites. All of my classes are packed and have over 40 kids, when a paper to home clearly stated there would be no more than 20 students per class.
Posted: May 25, 2017
Most students are extremely disrespectful and do not care how you feel, There is bullying, teasing, and more. These certain disrespectful students are distractions in class. I would define a vast majority of students as tantalizing, immature, and disrespectful.

My overall experience was not very good. Teachers give way too much homework, giving students no time for after-school activities. Magnet students have to wake up at 5:00 am every morning, making it difficult to spend time with family, get enough sleep, exercise, go outside, and still do homework. I would define a vast majority of students as tantalizing, immature, and disrespectful. Every single student gets the same work and the same style of teaching. Nothing is individualized, and everything is just board-required lessons and standardized tests. Students are to afraid to report bullying. There was an instance I knew of with sexual harassment. One particular student had to be moved classes because of sexual harassment. After that, the student was then reported several more times after that for bullying and being a distraction in class. In my opinion, he should have been kicked out, but he wasn't. The school is also a pig-sty, and is rat and bug infested. There's either no air conditioning, or the air conditioning is on too high. The lunchroom is too small to fit the magnet and neighborhood kids, so the school just makes the magnet kids start school at 7:00 am. The dress code is body shaming, and lets different people slide based on their relationships with the staff members. Certain kids get free passes on everything, just because of their situations. We don't have lockers, so we have to carry around extremely heavy backpacks for 7 hours. The school is extremely dirty and disgusting. There is water damage in the floor and roof, there are tiles missing in some place, all of the walls need fresh coats of paint, the air conditioning needs to be replaced, and more. These are just some of the issues I've had with this school.

My child is part of the Magnet Program...I will admit i was sketchy at first due to the neighborhood...The first 7 weeks was an adjustment (not for the weak) however, my child loves this school and so do I. The Magnet program is run so well and I just cannot say enough wonderful things about it! If your child has the opportunity to go to this school...you are very blessed. My child is thriving in this school and learning far beyond her years!!!!

Without a doubt the best school in Las Vegas. Great teachers, great students, and a fantastic math and science program that has produced nationally-recognized competition teams year after year. I'm in college now, but I haven't forgotten the foundation that I got at this school.

Hyde Park is without a doubt the greatest middle school in Nevada. The teachers in all disciplines are dedicated and excellent, and the math and science programs are the strongest in the state (MathCounts, Science Olympiad, Science Bowl, Robotics, etc.). There is so much opportunity to learn and thrive here. I will never forget what this school has done for me.

HPMS is definitely my favorite school that I have ever been to. I'm in the Academy program and I love everything about this school and the teachers. They really help you understand every thing of every single subject. It's really amazing. I've been going there for two years. Now, I'm in 7th grade. HP is honestly the best school in LV, Nevada. I've really never been smarter. And not only does it have great education, but it's also really fun. My elective is choir and I get to do some of the funnest things ever in that class. I've always liked math just a little, but now I love it! I never thought that would ever happen. Haha. But to be honest, I would make my children go here if I was a parent. Without a doubt. :)

As a grandparent who attended the Parents Night for one of the two grandchildren there this year, I was totally impressed with both the Physics and Math teachers. They light the fire of the lamp of learning for the students and make them want to do better than expected. My grandson in 8th grade loves his teachers and excells because of their structured teaching. I have nothing but praise for HP and their faculty!

Hyde Park Middle School is oneof the best schools in Las Vegas, NV. I am graduating this year, as I am in the 8th grade, and my experience here has been great, from the classes, the teachers, the other representatives at the school and my friends in the Magnet Program with me...it has been a blast. It is a school that teaches you things academically that kids in regular schools will never experience. I enjoy how advanced things are, and the way that they teach. Any student that comes to Hyde Park will enjoy the Music classes, the advancement of teaching and the teachers are all so good, and I like how they teach. I want to also take time out to thank all of my teachers who have always made themselves available for me, especially when I had to make up tests, or when I needed more information, but especially when I needed to ask questions to things that I didn't understand. They have prepared me for a magnet high school.

This school may not be the highest quality. But they give you good eduction. They push you to your fullest and they try to get you to the maximum in life. This school may be a bit far or others and is alot of work but that's what prepares us for life as students. We get in better classes in high school. Definitely recommended.!!

Hyde Park Academy is a great school that pushes the bar of excellence. My son loves attending this school, his teachers are approachable, staff are nice people. We have had only positive experiences with great attitudes and the students are diverse, intelligent and nice. So happy for this experience!
Posted: July 13, 2013
this school is awesome! it is challenging! we have year round math tutor to keep up with super fast pace of class. my kid is now excellent high achieving student at this school because he wants it. Parents have to be prepared to be very involved with keeping students on task and supplied and organized. Teaching real life situations here.

Hype Park has completely demoralized my once eager and educationally motivated child. He is currently an 8th grader in the Magnet Program and cannot wait until his time at the Academy is over! He stuck it out so he wouldn't be labeled as a failure, but his entire time at Hyde Park has been a major disappointment from what we were told to expect at this school. It is NOT the "innovative" and "hands-on" learning atmosphere that was described at his orientation. Very few of the teachers motivate the child for what they term "accelerated" learning (which in actuality is just an increased amount of homework,) and it's next to impossible to get constructive help from the teachers for children who are struggling. We no longer advocate the CCSD Magnet Program because of the heartbreak we experienced at Hyde Park and are sending all three of our kids to regular public Middle Schools and High Schools from here on out. When you consider the distance from home he faced every day, and the little value he received for his pains, AP classes at a closer location and within reach of friends are looking pretty much equivalent!

Though I have made many great friends who are rather good role models, this school stinks. The first two years were decent, but 8th grade is far from it. If you plan on doing sports or extra curricular activities outside of school like many teens want to, don't come here. The teachers give too much work and so little time. Then, they yell at you for either not being able to complete one of your five million assignments or being tired in class due to lack of sleep. Even if we, students, were not forced into hours of homework each day, we have to get up before the crack of dawn to catch an hour long bus ride. It's okay to have an early bird class start at 7am for regular schools, but this is a magnet school. Most of the magnet students live at least half an hour away. That's a 4am wake up time if you want to look nice, eat breakfast, and catch the morning bus by 5:15am. In conclusion, do NOT come here if you want relatively little stress during your middle school years. Seriously, lack of sleep in addition to LOADS of stress is a not worth getting into a "high class" high school.

Some people are giving really low reviews of this school. And I understand them. I say though, it depends on your level of determination for education and dicipline to like this school. I am a sixth grader, part of the magnet program, currently in the highest six grade class.. KrausBerg and will be going on to RomoHill next year. (Krausberg=Mrs. Kraus and Mrs. Berg) (RomoHill= Mrs. Romo and Mr. Hill). I really think KrausBerg pushes me to do well in school and challenges me alot. We do lots of reading, writing, biology, and math. I think Hyde Park is an excellent school for those that are committed to excellence.

Ive been here for 3 years, and i absolutly HATE it !! I dont even know how many times i went home and begged my mom to take me out of this school . I have an english teacher, she is soo rude. She would tell her students to shut up and she doesnt want to hear from you. The Counselers are very helpful although , the deans and principles arent . Please do not send your kids to this school . There is alot of talk about drugs and alcohol . I do not recommend this school to ANYONE !!!

This is the best school ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My favorite teacher there is Jeremy Wolstenhulme! (aka: Mr.W)
Posted: January 15, 2013
I am a student at this school. I can't complain too much, because compared to all the other middle schools, this would be the best one to send your student to. However it doesn't meet my expectations. They are riding on the fact that all their students are smart, and not really pushing us to be the best. If anything, I have learned to hate school more because I am never learning anymore. Also, the kids here are not the best either. There is so much fights and drama. The only good thing about going to Hyde Park and being a smart kid is that many high schools and summer programs find you because they want you. I am in 8th grade this year and hundreds of boarding schools and magnet high schools have been sending me letter. People from prestigious high schools around the world have come to Hyde Park to interview me. So Hyde Park itself in my opinion is a horrible school, but when you suck it up and deal with it, there are many reward and benefits. Just don't let the school destroy your spirit and love of learning.
Posted: July 1, 2012
Hyde Park is a really wonderful school. The only bad thing about it is the non-magnet students and teachers who don't put effort. Trust me, every teacher does their job, but some just don't give enough information. I am in the magnet, and if you're in 6th grade, you better pay attention and have only A's in math and science. The 6th grade teachers are the ones who determine whether you go to Pre-Algebra or Algebra in 7th grade. Unfortunately, I had one B in math and went into Pre-Algebra. If my math teacher advised me this determines what classes you go to, I would have stepped up and had an A. The people who have Pre-Algebra in 7th grade go into Algebra in 8th. But since the 7th graders already took those classes, they go into geometry (I'm not quite sure what science they go to). Other than that, the teachers are great!

I am currently a 7th grader at Hyde Park. THis is seriously a good school. Teachers will teach you what is necessary if you put effort into learning. There's alot of clubs here at this school like Rubix cube club, Chess, Science olympics, dance, basketball, soccer, track, archery, art, drama, band, choir, orchestra etc.. i am in junior varsity band and the band teacher Mr. Tyler is a really great iinstructor. he'll be strict with you but its because he expects good things from you. teachers arent mean at all unless you make them be mean. all teachers are friendly. the dress code isnt much . just make sure you wear appropriate clothes. theres rarely any bullying. everybody is friendlythese past 2 years ive really enjoyed it especially this one. ive had alot of memories with my friends that i dont want to let go of. i do reccomend this school to anyone who wants a good education.

I use to went Hyde Park last year, even though i'm in high school right now. All the teacher are cool and nice hang out with. I've learn a lot from my middle school year. I use to be in the band program, and was the best. Mr.Tyler teach us very well, very funny, and fun. Excellent teacher and best band teacher ever have. There was a lot of memory with my friends and teachers. I'm wasn't in the magnet program but, still awesome school. If you want to put your child in the magnet program, it great program to be in, and make sure to be in band then orchestra, because were losing a lot of band member and increasing the orchestra member so, please put your child in the band program. BEST MIDDLE SCHOOL EVER!!!!!

HPMS has it's pros and cons. Pros: magnet program, music program includes band and orchestra and choir, 6th grade English, 7th grade history,8th grade geography . Cons: if your child does not test and get placed in the top math and science classes, you do not have the consistency in teaching. My child had the worst math and science teachers in 6th grade and has the flakiest 8th grade English teacher currently. Since the economy tanked, the moral has shifted in the staff. Their claim for explaining things is that they do not want to "spoon feed" the students and do not want to discuss assignments in great detail. Class organization varies from edmodo to my ccsd to scoolnotes and those sites are not updated regularly to help students manage study time. If your child does not follow verbal directions well, this is not the school for them. There is a large portion of minorities who say discriminating comments to others to "test" beliefs such as are you a racist or do you belong to the KKK? Prepare your child for the social roller coaster that takes place at lunch and in the classes. Some teachers are afraid to discipline, but not all of them. Enter at your own risk.

This school is probably one of the best schools in the state of Nevada. They also have some of the best teachers. For example, one of the teachers was elected for the best teacher in the world and shook the president's hand. Only 100 teachers were chosen out of the whole world. I also recommend the school's orchestra program. They have beat numerous middle and high schools in competitions. If you or your child live in Las Vegas and you don't know where to go, choose Hyde Park Middle School.

look hyde park is like any other school you just got to dig into all the stereotype. Me being a 8th grader should know this. you still got your bullies and your "girls with a lot of friends with benefits" its just most kids are to into work to actually socialize. which i see as a bad thing. being able to deal with bullies and making right choices is what counts the most. not doing your homework. im not saying to not do your homework just get your head out of all the stereotypes of hyde park.

This is the 2nd year my daughter has been in the magnet program. It is a great school. There can be a lot of homework and yes, the teachers do seem to hand out projects at the same time. If your child is considering this school, they must be prepared to work. But it is well worth it. I have 3 older children and know this is the time your child can get on the wrong path and make bad choices. This school keeps your child busy and your child will become more independent & confident in themselves. The orchestra program is outstanding. Yes, the school is old. But its just a building. It's what goes on inside the building that counts. I work for LVMPD and will tell you there are very few incidents that occur at this school compared to other schools. I don't think the magnet kids are "snobby" as others have said. I believe they take more pride in themselves and don't fool around or act up as much as most kids not in the magnet program. My daughter is in 7th grade and already thinking of which colleges to attend and which type of scholarship she'll decide to us to get there! lol

My daughter attends this school and it is a great improvement over the previous public school she attended. She is in the magnet section and has very good, challenging teachers. The orchestra teacher is way above and beyond her previous teacher and her orchestra competes with high schools. Don't believe any bad reviews listed. Trust the positive reviews! Signed, happy parent (with doctorate in education).

I am an eighth grader at Hyde Park and I absolutely LOVE it! I love my math class- I'm in Geometry, and love it, and I am always able to be challenged, unlike in my elementary school. I am in advanced orchestra, and last year, my class won best orchestra in the west coast (including high schools). It is older and kind of dirty sometimes, but not horrible. We have a lot of school spirit, and the teachers are absolutely AMAZING! They are really nice, and I haven't had a teacher I dislike. They are fantastic. I have taken all accelerated classes, plus I'm two years ahead in math and taking beginning Physics/Chemistry, and I still have a 4.0 GPA. There is a lot of homework, but if you are a dedicated student you'll be fine. I will really really miss it next year- trust me, this school is amazing!
