My child started here last school year she had a lot of issue with her learning and emotional problems as well as adhd. Since she started here they have help evaluate her for autism and she is now in the proper class. This is something I have tried to get since she started going to school when we previously lived in northern nevada and that school did nothing to help her. Of course no school is perfect but the teachers and special education staff have helped me tremendously.

Teachers have been great here, thus the one star. Parking is not as great, parents will arrive 30 minutes early just for good parking. The front desk is incompetent. Every year there has been an issue where said person is not properly looking at the paperwork. They refused to release my kids to their step dad, and did not bother to even look at the paperwork/registration to see that he and I are the primary parents. Their biological father lives in a different country and they would call him for an emergency or questions rather than us. Stating they called us, yet we both have not received any calls from them. Another instance was a few years ago when we had an emergency flight for a death in our family and again same said person refused to release my kids 30 minutes early to me, because they were in a assembly despite me saying we will miss our flight. Again with school traffic and what not. Lastly, fast forward to today; where I coordinated with my childrens teachers to drop off little party favors for the class, again same person We dont do birthdays, and then with a attitude asked if the teacher knew. Yet someone else took the party favors back and said they were fine.
Before/After school program: Safe Key has been great for my kids. This review is targeted more towards the school district. 5th graders and kindergartners should not be allowed to intermingle without direct supervision. There is not set zoning for kids within the same age range deducing that has to do with budget vs. manning. My 3rd grader and 1st grader has been bullied multiple times. If your child has a disability they are allowed into the safekey program, but there is no support to accommodate that. They are allowed to intermingle with the rest of the kids despite them becoming overwhelmed and what not.

My daughter attends HES, and we have had a positive experience. We're a mil family who relocated to North LV after the school year began. My daughter's third grade teacher was very personable and approachable. She calmed my concerns that I expressed in regards to feeling like my daughter was slightly behind academically, and reassured me that she would ensure that she's successful in her third grade class. Mrs. Maren has been amazing, and my daughter has shared positive feedback on her overall experience with her teacher and the school. The SafeKey staff is also really sweet and kind to the kids. My only complaint, which is like many parents, is that the children have a significant amount of online work. Oftentimes, mathematical methods are introduced online and the students are left to figure it out independently. My daughter's learning style doesn't coincide with this method of learning. My daughter requires additional verbal instruction to help her understand how to solve mathematical problems, etc. I'm often feeling like I'm homeschooling again. Overall, our experience has been positive, and I'd definitely consider sending my children back to this school, but unfortunately we're being re-zoned to Triggs Elementary. I'd also like to add that the PTO often hosts fun events for the students that are exciting and engaging.

My child was sent home because they think she was exposed to COVID. They got rid of Zoom but they still have COVID Cases. Makes no sense. So now my child has to be home for 10 days because they think it's what CCSD wants. Mr. Houle has gone so far left politicaly that he can't run a school correctly. He needs to resign so we can get a Principal that isn't owned by the school board. One that looks after our children and not his political career.

My daughter had Mrs Cochran last year for kindgergarten and I absolutely loved our experience! We love Heckethorn so much that we turned down an acceptance from a charter school to stay at Heckethorn this year. The principal and support staff are kind and informative. The ladies that run safe key are fabulous! The PTO runs some great programs! Through Class Dojo we are able to stay on top of how our child is doing! I really can't say enough about how great this school is!

We just moved here out of state and the office staff made it bear impossible to register my child. Then after just a few weeks in school they are taking the new kids to make a new classroom. So now my daughter not only had to switch schools due to the move she has to switch everything again. Office staff is understaffed and could use more help. The classes are so small and the kids are literally shoved into the rooms like sardines!

This school is great, my son is excelling in all subjects. He is in 2nd grade and so far his teachers have been great. They push him to do better and are always giving him extra activities to do. He is reading at a 5th grade level and is in the 90th percentile in all subjects.
