I'm a current student of the class of 2024. I'm graduating this year, so I'm mainly leaving this as a warning. The school is questionable at best. Most of the teachers either don't care or don't know what they're doing; or both. The councilors don't care at all about the students; my own councilor has actively sabotaged me multiple times this year with the math class I was placed in. I requested multiple times to be transferred out, but was always given some poor excuse because that would mean he has to do work. And if your transferring here from another state, especially if you've already completed a few years of high school, get ready to suffer. The district has specific people to handle translating transcripts from other states, but the councilors will do it themselves and do it wrong, but then refuse to acknowledge the issue and correct it because there's certainly no way they could be wrong, right? My girlfriend (Also class of 2024) is one of these transferred students, and her credits are all sorts of messed up because of this. Her councilor won't do anything and the school social worker's answer to everything is "you should be happy with what you have." Another issue the school has is that the staff don't communicate with the principle and she has no clue what's going on in her school because of this. She's a good person and will actually try to help, but she doesn't know what's going on and people won't contact her because they think she's too high up the food chain, so to speak.

And outside of the staff, the facilities are sub optimal. Sure, the CTE classes have decent equipment, but the rest of the school is in shambles more or less. The bathrooms are borderline unusable 90% of the time, and the cameras (particularly in the parking lot) are low quality and likely damaged in some way, so if something happens don't expect there to be footage for evidence.

That being said, there are some plus sides. Some teachers, namely the Automotive teacher, woodshop teacher, multimedia teacher, the culinary teacher, and JROTC instructors do genuinely seem to care and will go out of their way to help students if they can. The only issue is they can't do very much. Even so, they're the only reason this school even gets a 2/5 for the teaching category.

Overall, if you're going to school here or are going to go here in the future or you're a parent thinking about sending your student here, be cautious and don't expect any good results.

I've been living in Las Vegas for just over two years. and being in the military and working in the civilian sector my family have moved around alot in the last 10 years or so. But I must say that out of all the states that my family has lived in, including Florida which is supposed to have the worse school system in the country, Las Vegas has been the worst I have ever encountered. My son has been dealing with bullies that moved here from L.A. all year, and the school has done absolutely nothing. They suspend the kids for a couple days and there back at it. I have been up to the school a total of 6 times this yr. and now I am totally fed up and just pulled my son out before this problem escalates and somebody gets seriously hurt or worse. It seems like the teachers are scared of the children, and nobody has a clue about what's going on. I called up to the school a couple days ago because my son called me to let me know a couple kids was trying to jump him, and they said they didn't have a record of my son attending there. (Really) He's been there two years.. I can't believe with me working my butt off and the amount of money I spent on a home to live in a neighborhood that is supposed to have one of the better public schools in the district, well I would hate to see the worse. I won't call it racial, but I will say the school policies need a change, and maybe some of the school faculty. It's sad to see a city that's so beautiful, and so much money runs through have such lousy schools.

This school sucksthey dont care about the well-being of their students. When I was really struggling mentally and asked my teachers and counselor for help they brushed me aside, my counselor even tried to blame it on my grades and said that if i tried harder maybe i wouldnt be struggling. All in all this school doesnt care about its students unless they are kissing up to the faculty.

Homework varies by the teacher and the subject. The amount has changed when my children have had regular, honors, or AP classes.

The teaching staff mostly seem engaged with the kids. I have had 2 children attend SRHS - 1 is much more of a learner than the other. Teachers react differently to both kids, as they should. They are not teaching robots, so they should not respond to them like robots. I have found a lot of caring individuals who are at this school because they want to grow young minds - these teachers, like all others, don't get paid nearly enough for what they do for our children. Just watch out for wood shop - that is the one teacher I have found in the school who will let a child sit, do nothing all year, grade them appropriately (for nothing) and not feel bad about not reaching out to the parent or not trying to push the child. All others will at least try to get your child to engage.

I can't say the school does or does not develop integrity, compassion and respect because my children had a good foundation of those from home. The were (are) both involved in sports, JROTC, and other school activities. My children are very respectful and are extremely honest, but my child had three phones, money and multiple clothing items stolen from a sports locker and from the sports fields at the school. I don't think I can blame or give the school the credit for all of that. I have gone to the Dean's office before to drop off paperwork for my kids, and I have seen some of the most disrespectful, mouthy children sitting there talking to the secretary like she was less than nothing. I don't think they learned that at school. And I don't think my kids learned how to be respectful from going there. I think it's a balance that families share with the school.

In 6 years of dealing with SRHS, I would recommend the school. In the past 3 years, it has become far more crowded than it was when we enroled my first child. This year, my child who currently attends has 40 kids in one of their classes - this is far too many for any 1 teacher to be expected to interact with and teach effectively. This is where kids start getting lost in the system. We are a military family and chose Shadow Ridge when we moved to Las Vegas - I would do it again. I just wish we were not experiencing this over crowding.

The teachers that I have encountered really care. They are busy, but are happy to take the time to talk to or e-mail a concerned parent. If the student goes to them with concerns about grades, it's even better.

The JROTC staff is second to none. Col Cooper, SMSgt Porterfield, MSgt Murray and MSgt Hunt are so dedicated to the cadets - they put in so many extra hours to help them learn and get involved in the community. They show the kids what service is all about.

The coaching staffs for Football, Wrestling and Cheer put the time in to help students achieve their best in the sports they choose. They put in many extra hours to teach kids dedication, hard work, leadership and followership.

Principal Warnock and Mr. Olson constantly show their support for their students. Whether it's at a pep rally, a game, or walking through the school, they have interactions with the students and make sure they know they care. What more can you ask for?

Miss Gail, at the front desk, is amazing, the counselors are fantastic, and we have really enjoyed SRHS. If only Las Vegas would pump a little bit more casino money into the school system, this vould be one of the best school districts in the country instead of one of the worst. We are very happy with this school as a whole.

I have seen favoritism towards certain ethnicities particularly in favor of Caucasian students specifically as it pertains to participation in extra curricular activities such as Dance and cheerleading. Their is the belief that lesser talented students are chosen for these activities because they are white over more talented black students to present a certain visual image. It appears that only a certain number of black students are selected to participate which the students are well aware of.

Not very impressed with the faculty at all. I have personally contacted this school to volunteer for several activities and I have never been contacted to assist with anything. When I have had the opportunity to speak with someone, they seemed to just dismiss me as if I had nothing to offer. As a parent and Air Force veteran I'm very offended with their apparent attitude towards me and my effort to be of assistance to this school in an effort to be involved in my child's high school experience.

Counseling staff is fantastic, but that is all I can say that is positive. This is not a great school. We are a military family who recently bought into this neighborhood being advised this was one of the top schools in the area. The administrative staff is overwhelmed with the influx of students and use their workload as a crutch to be delayed, inaccurate, and unprofessional in their work ethic. The registrar takes over a week to return phone calls--she is so disorganized it is painful to watch. The facilities, while nice from a distance, are not great. The parking lot and surrounding streets are such a mess we will not allow our 17 year old to drive to school and risk damaging his car. The library is a sad, sad sight. I think my daughter's elementary library is bigger. My son reports that there are no drinking water facilities near the outside PE areas and they aren't allowed to bring water with them when they go outside...may I remind this staff that Las Vegas is HOT?! Teachers are not keeping students engaged/busy--they are ambivalent and are simply babysitting. They don't take the time to know their students. I have received complaint emails from teachers about my son, only to be given notice a day or two later that they had him mixed up with another student. Gym classes have over 100 students per class!!! I have contacted leadership at this school and expressed concerns with empty promises to work harder, but I have yet to see results. I would almost classify this school as unfriendly to military families, as it seems the administration does not understand some of the unique challenges our military children endure. If we retire to this area, our younger child will not attend Shadow Ridge.

We have been very pleased with SRHS. It is a BIG school (like all CCSD high schools) but it also has a lot of staff that really care about kids. There are issues however, if you approach counselors and administrators in a positive way we have found they are very receptive to listen. I feel like our student is encouraged by staff.

The only issues we have are:
1. There is one teacher out of many that I would like to see removed from the school due to her inconsistencies with classroom/school policies.

2. Club meetings are only scheduled in the afternoon, due to local LDS students attending seminary before school. This does not allow students who play sports to be as active in clubs. This can be difficult for high achieving students who want to be involved in many activities.

Overall this has been a positive place for our student. It is a school where the student needs to show initiative, which is what we want for our students to be better prepared for the world.

This school is terrible. The traffic on all incoming streets makes my child's bus late, and the school makes it even worse by doing tardy lockouts every day. I don't want my child going through this hassle and I find the staff of this school uneducated for doing this when their own public transportation and "tardy lockouts" become problems for eachother. The staff of shadow ridge treats students as if they are prison inmates.

My daughter attended this school for the 2015-2016 school year. Overall, the staff was friendly and the guidance counselor really helped my daughter get on track. My daughter really enjoyed going to this school.

- A Parent Shadow Ridge is a diverse school economically, and academically. In 2014 a new Principal took over and the administration and staff are in a transition, with an awesome goal is to provide every student with a Google Chromebook. The have a split schedule providing longer class times. On even days students go to 2,,4,6,and 8th periods, and odd days 1,3,5, and 7th period. Not all schools in CCSD provide 8 classes to students allowing more options for electives and less homework time. Unfortunately it is part of the worse school district in America. Schools are desperate for money here in Vegas and the cost for students to participate is too high for some students. They try to make a profit off of everything, which in Nevada is the only option to fund education. Lower income families will have to say no to students on issues like Prom, Yearbook, and $6 lunch fundraisers. PLEASE NOTE: ALL FEES CAN BE WAIVED IF YOU ASK the Principal! They do not advertise that...It's discrimination to offer things you can't afford. Including band trips to IRELAND. The collective group will pay for your student to go as long as you try to fundraise for some of the cost.

The Special Ed at department at Shadow Ridge has failed my one child with an IEP. My second student is having a good year. Get accommodations is a process. Parent Involvement is for the very rich parents. Poor parents not so much...

2015 I have seen some AWESOME changes at Shadow Ridge, and I would love to say due to some of the issues I have raised. More than likely it's due to some very hard work by a new Principal Mr. Warnick, and Ms. Shipp. I gave them 1 star last year. This year they get 4! Change is hard for everyone and sadly it takes time. Kids get lost, and left behind in the process. ADVOCATE FOR YOUR KIDS FIND SOMEONE TO LISTEN, and TAKE ACTION. Hopefully in the process the kid you are advocating for will learn to advocate for them self. Clark County Schools need a lot of improvement. They do have some awesome programs going on, and awesome teachers that perform miracles. Odds are not good for your student and that is why you have to be involved, and that's why you have to push.

Absolutely no school spirit. The school is okay on an academic level, I learn everything okay. But on the side, it is so awfully boring, it's just routine everyday. And the weeks that there is a Spirit Week.... STILL boring, no students attend/participate in the spirit weeks or any kind of "fun" events that are planned. Dances? Joke. You'd want to leave within 10 minutes as the place is decorated with poorly drawn/painted cartoons on butcher paper. Incredibly boring.

My son has attended SRHS, along with several of my exchange students. I have no complaints about this school. The teachers and all the staff have been very committed and caring over the years. I believe that in HS, you get what you put into it. There is more to school than sports! My family and my children love this school!

Awful !!! If your child is involved in Sports don't attend. Shadow Ridge is open enrollment. Kids and Dads that aren't even zoned for this school have come over and infiltrate and have had an agenda from the start.They even gained up on a coach that had been there for years and never told he was gone, he showed up at practice in front of kids and they let him know they didn't want him.( couldn't even tell him privately after all the years he had contributed, voluntarily) I can go on and on. They treat an adult like that, they treat kids like that, unless you are part of wine nite / and the reich. So many stories seen first hand. It is so crazy. I can't even explain all that goes on. What is really bad is these guys are in charge of our youth. Frank Tousa is the Worst...

Prejudice plays a big roll! Nothing is being done! Dean protect her own kind, staff is rude! Spirit of student are crushed and don't want to attend. Dean herself is a bully, no compassion is given for the weak. Swaggers rule the school. Girls get in trouble for above knee shorts, while swaggers are allowed to show boxers. Its gross. Can't go to dean for help! No one care to help the weak. My child went from "a's" to "c's", doesn't even want to go to school. Scared of being bullied! Where's the protection? Teachers are being stabbed with pencils in face, vandalism to vehicles. Suspension for defending themselves. The Dean is horrible!!!!!!!

Parents if you want your son or daughter to play sports in college send them to another school like Arbor View!! Me and my entire family supported this football team and these Coaches for years. it was truly a huge mistake. I should of listened to the reviews and sent my son to Arbor View for a better education and better coaches!

My children are pretty good students abd quite involved in all kinds of activities. My only complaint about the school is from the principal down to many of the teachers, a negativity prevails. The administration fears the top guy. The teachers fear for their jobs. The students are not challenged nearly enough. If your child can memorize and spit it back, you will be fine. The school forgets that molding these students into indepenedent, free-thing, problem-solving adults is part of their job. Nope, memorize and take a scantron test is the mantra. The best teachers leave for better working conditions that's for sure.
