My experience at Coral Academy was very positive, and I believe it provided me with a strong foundation for my future. The school maintains high academic standards while giving students the support and preparation they need to succeed in college and beyond. Many of my classmates went on to attend highly regarded colleges, and I personally continued my education through law school, recently graduated, and began my career in the legal field. In addition to its strong academics, Coral Academy offers a welcoming and supportive environment that encourages students to challenge themselves, work hard, and reach their goals.

Here is my honest review. I attended Coral from 2nd through 12th grade and graduated last month, so I’ve seen the school from almost every angle.

My honest opinion is this: Coral can help your child get a high GPA and look good for college, but it does not always prepare them for what comes after. You attend this school for grades, not deep learning.

Elementary and middle school were strong, but the high school drop-off is huge. Coral puts too much emphasis on grades, rewards, rankings, and perfection. When straight A’s become the expectation and there are dozens of valedictorians, grades stop meaning as much. A culture where perfection is normal creates cheating, and cheating here is way too easy.

I know students who graduated with high GPAs, went to top colleges, and later admitted they struggled because Coral was much easier than it should have been. If someone graduates with a 6.0 GPA and goes to an Ivy League school, they should have earned that preparation.

The saddest part is STEM. For a school that markets itself as STEM-focused, the science education is disappointing. In 10th grade, our chemistry experience was so poor that an entire grade barely learned real chemistry. That is unacceptable.

Some math and science teachers care, but teaching quality is inconsistent. In physics, chemistry, and advanced math, students need teachers they can clearly understand. This is not about race or background, but if students cannot understand the teacher, they end up memorizing, guessing, or cheating their way to an A without real knowledge.

The school also does not push enough critical thinking or ambition. It has smart students, but it does not teach why learning, extracurriculars, initiative, and curiosity matter beyond grades.

APs are another issue. After paying tuition, paying separately for AP exams is ridiculous.

Sports are a major weakness too. If athletics matter to your child, I would not recommend Coral. Many coaches are parents or connected to students, favoritism is obvious, and the programs feel underfunded. Coronado offers much better sports while still sending students to great colleges.

Overall, Coral has smart students and some good teachers, especially in younger grades. But high school focuses too much on GPA, makes cheating too easy, underdelivers in STEM, lacks strong sports, and does not prepare students as well as it should. If you only want a high GPA, Coral can help. If you want real preparation, think carefully.

This school is horrible

With learning, the teachers are mostly rude, assign too much homework, and overall do not care about their students. The only teachers I had which were AMAZING were art, pre-ap english and college and career readiness. The art teacher especially, she's amazing. But my other 3 teachers are not good. With learning, the AP courses and teachers are horrible. The AP courses are way too hard, and the teachers are not good. The student environment is horrible, with most students being inappropiate, and swearing much more than any adult. Also, bullying is not punished in this school, and the staff is horrible. There was Chromebooks with faulty hinges given out, and when they broke, every student who's computer broke had to pay damage fees for it. This school does not value it's students mental health at all, and is sometimes the root of the problem. The sped program is horrible too, with the teachers being rude to the kids, and one of the aids being rude and even commented negatively of my rolling bag EVEN THOUGH I have an actual doctors note proving my back condition. The dress code is also a joke, multi colored landyards and pins and keychains aren't allowed, but students are able to come for free dress in crop tops, and during uniform, they are able to wear full faces of makeup, humongous false lashes, and hoops, mind you these are 8th graders. Non-CASLV jackets are not allowed to be worn inside, and you have to buy a CASLV jacket to wear inside. If you are thinking of applying for this school, it's not even worth it. Most of these reviews are from 2017-2019, it could have been good before, but now, it does not live up to its ratings.

Great school, and staff. We have been going to CASLV Centennial since they opened and my kids love it there. My oldest is doing great and when he needs help with math, they always have the door open for after school tutoring. All the teachers my children have had are amazing. Any questions I have they will always get to me right away whether it’s in person or class dojo. I have no worries about my kids in this school. I know my children will continue to thrive at Coral.

This is a STEM school, so there won't be a football team or hardly any major athletic programs, an orchestra, or a major emphasis on the arts. Basically it's a dorkfest, but that keeps everyone focused on college prep. We love the curriculum.

We like the school and class size can use an assistant teacher because right now the ratio is about 25 kids per 1 teacher which it isn't that bad. The after school program isn't the best, the kids run wild most of the time and they compiled all ages and grades. Not enough support to have the kids work on the homework during this time and very loud.

My daughter was given homework that was not challenging her as well as the homework was very repetitive work and my daughter would get bored very easily. We communicated the issue to our daughters kinder teacher the first semester and it wasn't until 3 weeks to the end of the school year that she changed her homework to a more challenging work.

Coming from a military family my daughters father deployed during the school year and child had some hardships dealing with him been gone which started to show with her school behavior and she was not given the proper support. She only met with the counselor maybe 2 the entire deployment period as well as her music teacher gave her a lower grade because she was having a tough time with separation anxiety with her dad coming home and her not seen him. The teacher did not bother to ask my daughter what was the problem and she had no clue he was deployed either.

My two daughters are going on to their second year of school here at Coral and they both were so excited for school to start, they made me count down the days til summer vacation was over! They absolutely love this school! My daughters (1st & 3rd) have had their hardships when it comes to certain learning material and with each child, their teacher would speak to me about the issue and different ways we can approach the situation. They offered free tutoring after school and also weekly meetings which helped out so much! Communication was great from all staff members. I can honestly say I felt both of their teachers as well as a great portion of the staff truly cared about their education and just plain helping them grow in life. I'm 100% happy that we made the switch to Coral Academy and I always recommend the school to anyone interested in finding a great school that cares.

my son and my daughter used to attend public school, they used to be straight A students with lots of awards on the wall, but ever since they switched to coral academy their grades has been from bad to worse, i regret taking the decision to switch schools, i just did because my daughter where stressing out due to bullying, but now I'm the one stressing out just thinking about their grades and how this will affect their future.

I was very hesitant to allowing my son to transfer to this school because school is a struggle for him (he is a younger 2nd grader). Knowing this was a college-prep, STEM-involved school I was afraid he would fall even more behind. I was very pleasantly surprised that his teacher noticed his struggle early-on (within the first couple weeks of school starting) and offered to tutor him once a week to get him caught up to the rest of the class. I have noticed SIGNIFICANT improvement in his grades and his self-esteem when it comes to his work. Mrs. Messenger channeled his strengths and helps him learn other ways of looking at things. I love the communication I get from her and the rest of the staff. It genuinely feels like everyone cares for my child and wants to help him succeed in every aspect of his learning experience here. I absolutely LOVE Coral Academy and I truly believe it was the best decision regarding my son's education.

I have three kids in this school. As a parent, I see the teaching at this school to be truly inspirational and this is complemented with a a growing number of extracurricular activities, events and clubs.Teachers are extremely helpful and very available to their students. Every teacher provides free tutoring after school. The school is strong in all subjects, but I would say that the Sports and Music departments are weakest. I like small class sizes and friendly environment. Math and Science teachers always assign advanced students harder material. My daughter was asked to do an independent study in her area of interest instead of a final test last year. However, school has become crowded and they do not have lockers.

My granddaughter went to this school all three years. She has excelled in all her studies which I attribute to the great teaching staff. I know she wouldn't have gotten this type of education in our public schools. The school does have its problems like small classrooms and no parking. I have been at Coral for three years now at the Tamarus campus. I absolutely love the small environment. Most of the teachers and staff know all of the students by name and everyone seems to really care. I love that there is an open relationship with the teachers and administration. All of the teachers and Directors have always gotten back to me and met with me when I needed to talk about my children. I have always been able to volunteer and they welcome parent involvement with open arms. There are lots of after school clubs and tutoring available for the kids and mine have participated in after school activities since we started at Coral. The school is still growing and developing and that is hard for some parents to understand. I feel lucky to be part of the Coral family and we are excited to grow with them.

My daughter started kindergarten at Coral with Mrs. Herman who teaches advanced Kindergarten. Mrs. Herman is hands down the greatest teacher we've ever had. He patience, kind heart and passion for her career shows. My daughter is in grade 1 and still stops to give hugs to Mrs. Herman. The administration has changed for the good the school is organized with support to teachers, children and parents. Web Programs they use such as ixl.com and i-ready are helping children excel and fill in gaps where they're struggling. The only thing missing the new campus we've been told about. The class rooms are quite small and cramped which makes it difficult for storage etc.

Imagine receiving a private school education... for free. That is what Coral Academy offers. The class sizes are a fraction of what they typically are in public schools. Coral nurtures the children's natural abilities and talent. They also just started a new lunch program. Yes, it's pricier than typical school lunches, but then again, processed food is cheap and that's not what they're offering. Overall, it's a great school and really pushing our son every way and he's enjoying it every step of the way.

To the person commenting on PE requirements: In CCSD, students are only required to take one semester in 6th grade and 8th grade. At Coral Academy, Students take a full year of PE in 6th and 7th grade. Also, it is available as an elective in 8th grade if students want to take it. They may not be required to take it in 8th grade, but middle school students at Coral Academy are still getting double the amount of PE than they normally would in the district, and probably most other middle schools in Vegas for that matter.

Coral is not for everyone, but our family has been extremely pleased with our son's education. He had an inspirational 1st grade teacher who exposed him to history, economics, social studies, & science. Her approach to math helped him learn the "number sense" emphasized by the new common core. His teacher promoted independent reading and encouraged him to ask questions. The parents, students, & teachers who comprise the Coral Family at Tamarus also make the community a special place. It takes a huge commitment to attend a charter school that may not be housed in the fanciest structure, or closest to your neighborhood. I like the diversity and parent involvement with each student's scholastic achievements.

Am I the only parent that is bewildered that they do not REQUIRE Physical Education for 8th grade students? Yes, education is a priority, but it is equal with the overall health of the students, and with all of the news coverage regarding overweight children, to not even require 1 day of PE for 8th graders is unacceptable!

This school is not someplace that I would ever want my child to go to again! The school is not cleaned daily. The restrooms can be smelled down the hall which is disgusting. The classrooms are too small for the amount of children put in them. The kids seem to get sick all the time because the school is so unclean and illness seems to continuously be passed. The administration has no idea what some of the teachers are doing in their classrooms. It seems that there is no accountability for the teachers at all and it is pretty much a free for all. I have not been impressed with the school curriculum or lack there of. Outside where the children play there is no grass for them to play in, it is all dirt. The school is very unorganized which I believe is caused by poor administration. My child in second grade has had four different teachers this year and I don't understand how a child is supposed to learn with this high of a turnover rate of teachers. From what I ve seen year to year many teachers leave within a year or two and they seem to have to hire many new teachers each year. This should be a huge red flag for both parents and the administration.This place is horrible!

This school is fantastic !! the principal and office support staff are friendly and efficient . The campus is clean and well appointed. But its really the teachers here that shine the brightest . The teachers here go above and beyond for their students. They have given my son the extra time , attention ,and tutoring when needed , to help him excel and succeed . They are always communicating with me , so we can work together to make my sons school experience positive and successful . I am so grateful to have the opportunity to send my son to such a fine school. To start about this school...1. Education wise is ok but Teachers lack communication with parents. We request over and over to communicate with us about the kid but they don't seems to be doing it. 2. There are many areas that this school lacks behind. For instance, in Sanitation and discipline. After school care is very poor with no maintenance of the playground and leaving the kids outside for hours and hours of play in dirt irrespective of weather conditions. Kids are getting up on Allergies, coughing etc because of this. Poor Kids get a small chips pack snack in the after school care and get an additional one for those who picks up the trash in the playground. This treatment towards the kids is not right... Kids are not Janitors to do this kind of stuff - clean someone else trash etc. we are paying fees to learn stuff. They play a movie every day in the after school care after hours and hours of play. I believe education is very important but at the same time proper health is also important. I feel this part of the treatment towards kids is not right and we are thinking to pull out my kid out of that school.

I really expected this school to be great. They were very disorganized. I had no contact info for the teachers and did not know what my children were supposed to be completing at home. The teachers skill level was average at best and would regularly yell at the children. When meeting with the teachers to discuss the issues we were having one of the teachers could not even pick her head up off of the desk for our meeting. I thought the curriculum it's self was good but the delivery was not.

This school is very disorganize at the beginning of the year. Days and weeks of time are wasted at this time. The Sandy Ridge school principal needs to be more visible and accessible every day. Some teachers need to improve their English skills. I don t have a problem with an accent of any kind but poor basic English grammar and writing skills are unforgivable. They crowd too many kids into one campus. The high school campus is not suitable for high school age students. It was built as a middle school. The PowerSchool is not updated regularly It should be done at least weekly, during each quarter. Not all on the last day of a quarter; the science department is particularly bad at this. Some teachers don t return work and test sheets to kids after they have been graded so they and parents can see strong and week areas. Again the science department is particularly bad at this. They wast time giving endless detentions for ridiculous rule infractions the Dean can never keep up with. Rules are rules but they need a better system. Teachers and staff direct traffic every day? What a wast of their time and it s depressing to see. I have never seen such a thing at any school before.

I have four children attending this school, and couldn't be happier with the quality of the education they are receiving . We enjoy small class sizes and very high academic standards. The teachers are of a superior caliber, and many have their master's degree in in the subject they are teaching. This makes such a difference in their knowledge and enthusiasm in the classroom. Coral is the best school and it is a fact. Because for 7th grade i went to Sig Rough and it say s it is 10 state school but it is not. Coral is a competitive school Rough is not. If you are a competitive person coral is the place. like i said i went to Rough for 7th grade it was bad the math teachers cant teach but coral have great teachers.

My daughter is a 7th grader and new student at Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas (CASLV). I am very excited that she is here. I had various reasons for applying even though I really liked the middle school we are zoned for in the CCSD school district that she attended for 6th grade. When I got the acceptance notice, I gave her the choice and after thinking it over for a few days she decided to accept. When she completed the 6th grade I was very concerned by what I saw in her Math grade Final Exam and researched further to find out that she was missing several foundational tools to progress, yet her final grade was a "C"... It concerned me that the reports I received all year showed that she was fine... I was excited to learn of CASLV's standards for learning and promotion. My daughter was hesitant over the summer when learning of CASLV's academic expectations and uniform policy, but when I picked her up on the first day, she was very excited and told me how happy she is to be attending Coral Academy and understands the foundation she is receiving to prepare her for High School. I appreciate the administration's focus to prepare the students for success in school and life.

This school is a great school. I do see some of the parents/students bashing the school and I don't understand why. Many of the student that do this come from Public School. Where they are familiar with how Public School is ran, not a Charter School. I've been apart of CASLV for 5 years now. When I first came to the school it wasn't a very pleasant school for me to be attending because I can from a Public School and didn't understand how the school worked. But as time went on the school really started to shine into an academic BOSS that it is today. It's not as bad as some people make it out to be. The Campus is clean, the teachers are getting better and better very year, and the activity's that the school is having, Home-coming and ect, is also improving. This school has classes for everyone. From smart to below average. ( and as for one of the comments talking about how the 10th graders of 2012-2013 school year failed is because of their own attitude towards that test, most of them didn't care or are too lazy to even attempt that test, yet not all of the 10th graders are that lazy )

If you want a great education go to this school. Before I was going to a public school and the teachers treated me like I was stupid. I came to this school in 4th grade and they really advanced me. I'm learning 8th grade science and pre-algebra in 6th grade! This school is knows for their math and science programs but, the do advance you in language art, though not as much. However this school does not have a proper nurse. Most people say that they want to leave this school when the make it to high school because this school doesn't have homecoming or prom. The reason for this is because my school supports diversity. I am bummed out about this however, I care more about my education than school parties. Also, if you graduate from coral, a school that wins math and science competitions all over this United States, it will look really good on your college resume. If you look more forward to the American school dream, go to a public school. If you care about you education, career, and future, this is the school for you.

Yesterday, I was at Coral to see the campus. When I got inside I thought that the floor was wet. But later on, I realized that there was no water on the floor. The cleaning company cleaned the school very well. People who say the school is not clean should go to the campus and see it. It was great. ( Just a suggestion to the people who think about the campus is clean or not. :) )

Hi . Online here I noticed that lots of parents are discussing how much they love coral. But the students don't really talk but when they do they really don't like this school. Ive only found one here that says they liked the school and they attend it . Well anyways i left coral after attending it last year. Within the first few weeks I left . Once I left the school I went to liberty and all the ciriculum is WAY harder. Lucky I managed to get all the help I needed from tutoring and now I have a 4.0 . So yeah . Coral just wasnt challenging . Lucky i left before I got even more dumber . BTW , my friend is a softimore and she said that more than half of the 10th graders FAILED the proficiencies . Sorry coral . But i loved the campus . BEAUTIFUL . And the people were super nice and outgoing. Just wish they had a better education. :(

This was a great school to go to. I advanced in math and science. I loved that in this school you got to work outside and there was more hands on learning. I would like to be a teacher. I would recommend this school to anybody.

Coral Academy has a pretty good middle school criteria but the high school is utterly ridiculous. I could go on and on about how unorganized the school is and how the students don't care about the schools environment but I will just tell you about the education. There are two main qualities the teachers have at coral academy, they're too easy for the students OR they don't even know how to teach. My english teacher was my favorite in 9th grade due to his great teaching skills and his willingness to help. My biology teacher didn't ever follow up with her word and caused the majority of my honors biology to fail the final. Don't even get me started with my geometry teacher. The guy didn't care. I went to tutoring almost everyday, I went over every question I got wrong on every test,quiz, or homework and you know what he says to me everytime I fail? YOU DONT TRY HARD IT VERY EASY. Thanks sir thats really helpful. If you miss any quizess in that class he just places it as a zero. So much of a college prep school . WE HAVE RECESS ! Dear coral academy, please hire people that speak english and have the willingness to help students day in and day out. DON'T SEND HIGHSCHOOLERS HERE.

Don't believe the hype. It's a good school and will really look good on your college aps and I really am overall satisfied that I sent my child there. The majority of the teachers do make themselves available but be forewarned that you and your child will have to do the majority of the heavy lifting. If you are not prepared to be a highly involved parent or have a child who is not driven to excel in school then I would recommend you look elsewhere. Overall, Coral is a great small school. It's focus is (surprise) math, science and engineering - so, don't go here if you don't enjoy those topics. Social Studies is pretty good for a science school; the quality of the English courses is good not great. The kids are smart, friendly and nice. Unlike other specialized High Schools, there is not a drug or a cheating culture. It's not very cliquish either. The teachers really know my child and are available for extra help when needed. Even though it is a pretty new school it already has an outstanding reputation and collage acceptance list.There is great communication with the administration if a parent or student have an issue. I highly recommend this school.

Our campus may not be the prettiest (Sandy Ridge). It may be a little rough around the edges. But what the building is lacking is made up 10 fold inside with caring staff and teachers. My daughter is in the advanced Math and Science program in 6th grade and has excelled this year with a 4.0. We tried the private schools of Las Vegas and found them to be overcrowded and behind in Math and Science. I am proud to display the Coral Academy Magnet on my car and I am proud to tell other parents where my daughter goes to school. They are truly a college prep school and care about my child's future!

CASLV has many problems: high turn-over of staff, teachers with poor English skills, disorganization within the administration and overcrowding. There was not a lot of willingness by the administration to address concerns of the parents when these concerns were brought to their attention. The attraction of the smaller size was a draw, but failed to live up to its initial draw. Overall, the problems overwhelm the positives.

I've lived in Las Vegas before and have known the principle and some the great teachers of Coral Academy of Science for some time. They were all very educated and highly qualified teachers. Students were also very smart, polite and diligent. I really enjoyed being at Coral Academy of Science... My daughter loved the school as well while we were there...

I started at CASLV in 6th grade and am now in 7th. Its a good school with a great cultural diversity, in a even better area.Note that the school has alot of Turkish staff and students and they speak Turkish to eachother alot which can kind of leave you feeling left out, unless you take turkish class.Last year 11th and 12th grade was added.This year they took away lockersfor a cleaner space and I have to admit its cleaner.They also added new touch computers !!! They have many clubs for middle school but most is only fo 8th grade.For high school they only have a couple.They no longer give student store to 6 and 7th graders but a table with snacks to buy.Somedays we are given Panda express day for $5 or cici's pizza . Because my school osnt funded by the stay we are constantly raising money like every first friday is Cici's night. Overall its a good school although I wouldnt stay for high school due to limited dances and kaki colored pants to worry about of your a girl.

We love Coral Academy. Our first child started at this school in 3rd grade and our youngest entered as a 1st grader. The class sizes are small, the teachers are dedicated, and it is nice to belong to a school community that has families that value education so much. The children are grouped by ability, so the students can be taught at a level appropriate to their abilities and talents. My children are both in the advanced group, and they are challenged far more than they ever were in public school. Because the parents who choose Coral Academy for their children tend to be very educated and concerned about their child's education themselves, the students who attend the school tend to be very bright and motivated. And there is nothing better than the synergy that happens in a classroom where creative and intelligent children work together to learn, guided by a dedicated teacher. I highly recommend this school!

Great school!!! Last year were my kids first year there but it was such a big improvement. My kids are learning a lot of things. Math and Science classes are so far beyond what they are teaching them in the public schools. Class sizes are right around 22 even for middle school and high school. When my oldest son was going to a public school, his 5th grade class were 35 kids. This school may not be tuition free but for $125 per semester and a total of $250 for the whole year, it might as well be free. They actually spend the bulk of their money on the rent on the building. Despite the limited funding they get, Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas actually do far more than the quality of education your kids will receive at any charter schools and public schools in the valley.Teachers are very caring and they really challenge the kids.

Three words-- disorganized, overcrowded, unsafe! My son attended there and I had a huge concern for his safety, school is overall disorganized and classrooms are small and overcrowded! The school does not have the right facilities, no lunch room, computer room, library, nurse! Wonder where the money is going! Do not send your children there!

This is my child's first year at Coral. She is very happy at this school. No bullying. Only 20 students in her class and all of her teachers care for her academics and learning. Finally she is being challenged now. She can stay for clubs and extra help after school; and they are all FREE.

I have two children in this school. Both are now in the upper campus. I originally moved my oldest child because he was getting bullied in public school and he is now happy and has a great set of friends from families who value intelligence and education. My younger child moved last year and entered from public reading in the 47% percentile. By the end of the year she was reading in the 80% percentile. I attritube this to the dedication of the staff, the free tutoring she got afterschool, and the dedication of our family to help her catch up. As with everything school related...it takes a team. If you are from a family who is willing to put in the effort, the Coral Academy Team is willing to work with you and help your child reach her fullest potential. Don't get worried about the mild disorganization at the begining of the school year... this is what happens when a school invests money in the students and not in massive overhead and administration like CCSD does. By the end of the second week everything falls into place. Overall, I love this school!

This school has been amazing for both of my children. I have one in the lower and upper campus and both are challenged and have teachers who care about them. The school has grown quite a lot but it still remains the best option in a state that invests very little in public education.

this school is amazing. They emphasize the importance of learning to each child and parent. The education my child has received is amazing in every way. I have spoken to parents that have allowed their children to leave this school in favor of public high schools and they are very disappointed. Wouldn't change a thing.

I could never get through on phone or email. Scary! What if there was a family emergency? Corporate Circle was a terrible place for a school. An accident waiting to happen! I understand they have moved to a different location perhaps now they will get it together!
