Our entire experience at this school has been negative and I cannot stress it enough.
- No positive reinforcement. No incentive to get good grades. No classes for kids who are advanced and no reasons to get a good grade. You can fail two classes and still participate in sports.
- No PTO
- very unwelcoming to parents
- The kids night have no parent volunteers and a cop sitting outside saying you cant go in the building. The principal creates a very hostile environment towards families. Fear of retaliation from her is real and one of the reasons families dont speak up.
- Swim in PE. You get one free miss of swim without punishment. After that the student has to make it up during study hall or after school. (Not every kid has a study hall- mine didnt.) if you cant swim due to being on her period and cant wear a tampon, you still have to make up missed classes. Personally, I think this is gender discrimination because a girl cannot control when they have a period or if they can wear tampons. Some girls start their period as early as 3rd grade. So the school is asking girls to wear tampons as young as 11 years old or theyre punished. I dont understand how this doesnt fall under title IX but, like I said, dont speak up or ask questions because it will only make the situation worse. Also, I had to buy my kid a $122 period swimsuit for the class. How does this not discriminate against families who are economically disadvantaged? And, the Title IX officer is the PRINCIPAL. Google it. So you cant file title IX against her or the school because she is a bully and will bully you so you keep quiet.
- Restroom breaks are done via the childs Chromebook. The student sends a message to the teacher. Once the teacher approves it, the child has 4 minutes to use the restroom before a time goes off on the students Chromebook. If youre not in your seat before the timer rings you are punished. (Watertown High School is similar) - Also, theyll have police question your child and will never contact you, the parent. And they will never apologize for doing it because nothing they do is wrong and everything they do is justified. So dont ask.
- The school has an earlier start date than the high school. Bus pickups start as early as 5:30 for a 7:15 school start time. This means many kids are getting up before 5am. How are kids supposed to learn with that early of a wake up? Dont like it? Well the bus is a privilege not a right and your kid can find their own ride.

Our experience has, unfortunately, not been a good one, and there are very few schools in the area so we are stuck at this one. Administration loves the military impact money but does not support military families. Families will always be liars unless you can prove otherwise so document everything. I believe the administration exploits military issues like lack of a support system and being new to the area. If you dont have a support system and are new to the area, they treat you however they want without repercussions because you are too busy trying to survive the military lifestyle and do not have the connections to have issues addressed. Its really sad for the families going to the school. It is not a family friendly or community centered environment. It feels more like a lockdown prison where youre not welcome to have a different opinion and can only support your child when they deem it appropriate. And, then that support is demanded, but only when they want it. The administration is very controlling. Teachers tell on other teachers so the principal can yell at them. That alone should tell you about the school environment. I write it all on here because there is nothing I can do and no way to fix it. Nobody listens. Families are the enemy. The school has so much money and so much potential. I cant wait to leave here.

My oldest son went for 6th and 7th grade to IRMS and I hated it! We came from Maryland and pretty much everything he's been told in 6th grade at IR he already knew from 5th grade in Maryland. Their was no extra work for him. The discipline is a joke. We had a couple of situations where my son got bullied and he ended up being punished because he said something to a teacher ! I always told my son to walk away or tell an adult but don't fight back. After all these bad experiences at IR, it is very sad but I have to say I can not expect him to do that no more. I'm very happy we are moving and he don't have to attend IR no more.
