at this school teachers have certain children that they use as examples and if there is a problem with a teacher and the dean or principle says they will talk to the teacher about the issue but they dont talk to them and if they do the dean or principle will tell you that your child was wrong and that the teacher did what they are supposed too. so it seams like they care more about the teachers then the kids who are becoming depressed because of their treatment by those teachers

in some ways the school has been able to help the kids with learning how to be respectful and integrity but i don't think they teach compassion

there are children that have had issues understanding what they are learning but they don't want to ask for help because they don't want to get deductions this makes me think that they fear whom ever is the "LEADER" isn't their leader instead they think the leader is for the teachers and the school and not for the kids

at this school if your child has learning issues they make a plan on how to help them but they don't implement them when the parent isn't there

i thought this school would help my child but i have been thinking lately that it is making my child have more issues then before. there isn't any issues with fighting and hardly any issues with children bullying other children. the only other issues i have are with papers the kids have to write when sent to the deans office they are forced to wright apologies about what they did or what the teacher tells them to even if the student isnt sorry and if they say it happened a certain way they have to re wright it and wright what the teacher told the dean what happen while they do this they are missing what the other students are doing in class and they are not given the information so they could catch up to the other students instead they struggle to catch up. some times when the student asks to get the information the teacher will tell them that they will get it for them but never do i really hope they start thinking about the kids a little bit more then they do some of the rules after all isnt that whole point of having the school be more structured then the public school so the kids can learn in a better environment with out most of the distractions that the public school has and so they can be ready for college the only problem on that point is the children are children and not adults but they want them to act like adults and learn like adults some times kids need to be treated like kids

Troy Prep is authoritarian in the extreme. The complicated and overly utilized disciplinary system places robotic behavior over engaging lessons. Teachers read from scripts and seem to have a quota of deductions and send outs they must give out in every class. No behavior, no matter how minor goes unpunished.

If your only concern is your child learning how to sit up straight, work silently, and never dare to behave like a child, then this is the school for you. However, if you would rather teachers attempt to engage students before sending them to in school suspension over the smallest offense, value teachers who are allowed to create innovative/creative lessons, and believe that your child does not have to act like a drone in order to get into college, then I would reccomend another school.

The teachers aren't allowed to be effective because of a hyper-focus on discipline above engagement and instruction.

The school could be great. It has quality, dedicated educators, a small but we'll maintained building, plenty of supplies, great field trips, and so on. Unfortunately, this is all undermined by a hyper focus on discipline to the detriment of student engagement. Discipline is a good thing, but students are sent from class and to an in school suspension room (where they have to wear a different shirt) for minor infractions, which robs genuinely good, well meaning students of precious in class time. Even innocuous classroom activity, like handing a pencil to a classmate whose pencil is broken, is worthy of a "deduction." This is an authoritarian school and each teacher seems to have a daily quota of "deductions" and "send outs" to meet, so they nitpick every tiny actions. Also, there is no guarantee that kids will get gym and art every day. Those two classes aren't only for students who are succeeding in other classes. So much for battling obesity (an issue the school food doesn't help with either) and creativity. Those classes are often outlets for kids who struggle in other classes, but they are robbed of succeeding in athletics or the arts if the they aren't keeping up with the other classes. Unless your child is a robot or you want them to become one, pursue another rigorous program that offers a little less discipline and a little more engagement.

There is always an adjustment period when children start something new or attend a new school. This school immediately send children to the dean 's office or received telephone calls home. God forbade if a child is shy or lack self confidence as most children are in this age group.

immediately place upon them. The office staff is totally unprofessional by talking about their frustration in front of the child. If the child do not answer the teacher - go to the deans office. There are several way to reach children and learning can be fun and difficult but not a MILITARY borderline JAIL. Boot camp causing depression. Thank GOD for the superintendent office- to remind TROY PREP they are here to serve the children's right to a free USA Education and there a thin line in violating their civil rights. Writing statements without their parents permission or presence is like cohercing a confession for a crime instead of a ticket for a misdemeanor. Academically the school is excellent but the prison guard tone of the school is not for my child and who can receive a great education else where.

This school is AMAZING!!! Yes the children have to work really hard, but that is what school is for. They have PE and Performing Arts which are more laid back. But that is the problem with schools today children have too much idle time. Idle time is time where fights break out and all sorts of unnecessary things that should not occur at a school. My children have been there since Kindergarten, so four years now and they are extremely advanced. Life is not about cupcakes and dandelions, it is about working hard ton achieve your dreams and they learn that at Troy Prep. -Chante R.

Horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE. I would give it 0 stars if I could, it's more of a prison than an actual school. Sure, it may seem nice, but that's exactly what they want you to think. They sugarcoat it until your child digs themselves deeper and deeper into it, exposing the ugly truth of it. And sure, you're child may be getting better grades on the outside, but what is on the inside of their heads is a storm of pure depression. If you want your children to be social and make lots of friends (You know, have an ordinary life), this is NOT the place for it. They will have absolutely ZERO communication with others. The only thing they care about is your child getting better grades and putting them into a better light. It's always college this and college that, they honestly don't care WHAT your child thinks. If you hate it there, tough love. It will only make it worse. I have seen the horrors of it inside and out. Please, if you really do care about your children, DO NOT TAKE THEM TO THIS SCHOOL!

My oldest son will be in the first graduating class from Troy Prep in the upcoming 2012-2013 school year. Having been a parent of a prepster since day one of the school I can not rave about it enough. My son has thoroughly enjoyed his time at Troy Prep. He has a 3.75 average and absolutely loves his school, teachers, and classmates. Like the other parent my son has ADHD and this school has done him wonders for his confidence and his overall behavior. He knows each and everyday what is expected of him and strives to be a leader. All the staff make a great effort to know all the children in the school from K-8th and make the kids feel like they are part of a great community. Academically they are far above all the local public and private schools. In 6th and 7th grade my son was doing math that I learned in 9 and 10th grade. All in all i recommend to all parents that are looking for a school that has fantastic academics, a strong sense of community , and lets the kids know from say one that each and everyone of them can go to college!!

I am a parent to a child that is extremely ADHD. Before enrolling my son into Troy Prep, his elementary school allowed him to 'call the shots.' He wasn't a bad student - he was just given so much freedom to walk out of class or do whatever he wanted... and his grades suffered. He hated reading; he wouldn't even read comic books. Troy Prep has given him the stability that he has needed to succeed. The rules don't vary for the students - and as a parent of a child that needs a firm schedule, guidance, support... I really appreciate Troy Prep. My son has learned that he can be equal to all of his classmates. And most impressive of all - my son is reading. Not JUST reading, but enjoying to read... novels by authors I never thought he would even attempt to read. He reads on his own and I love it. Hats off to the staff for everything they do to provide the stable, caring, supportive and firm enviornment to these children. I can't say enough good things - honestly. You just can't go wrong with this school. To see my son work hard, stay focused... get on the honor role, enjoy reading... enough said! If you asked my son what was the best school ever - he would say TROY PREP!
