Well, I need to admit that I am not a current parent but a potential parent. Ive been researching on the schools extensively. One thing I noticed with the Mineola schools is that the district leadership seems to be administrator/teacher centered rather than student-centered. All the materials I found online was how student expressed their gratitude for the staff, students singing songs to praise their schools, or what impressive achievements the schools have done. However, the students genuine voice is lacking. I couldnt find any material showing me that the district really care about the students other than using them as a channel to brag about the schools. Thank any honest parent for sharing their true experience. I found some of the reviews actually resonate with my impressions even though I havent sent my children here yet. I may look to relocate somewhere else.

I have 2 kids at the school. One goes to pre-K and the other goes to Kindergarten.
They are excited to go to school. They have friends and their teachers really care about them.
The staff is super.
Communication is great. We get texts directly from teachers and we are getting to really know them.
Theyre grading and teaching technique provides a place of inquiry and deep learning which is more exploratory than rigid. Its the way our kids should be taught since actually digesting, listening and caring about what you learn is more important than a piece of paper with a grade on it.
I think the Mineola school district is one of Nassau Countys best kept secrets ;)

This school needs to get rid of the badge books!! Bring back regular report cards for 3rd & 4th grade!! Nothing should take the place of a real report card for kids. Administration and board are not listening. Parents want to clearly see their child's growth and struggles. Unless you don't want struggles to be seen? A coded sticker book "badge book" for this level is not appropriate and it's a path for disaster with these kids. Enough with the smoke and mirror show we need a real report card in this school.

overall excellent school to help nurture young minds; all EXCEPT THE CHESS CLASS which you have to come early in the morning and DOES NOT TEACH unless you are advanced student, but gladly TAKES YOUR MONEY;

I was worried about moving into a new school at 3rd and 4th grade (I have one in each grade), but the school staff, teachers, principal and assistant principal have made the transition seamless. My children continue to progress.

Not too much and not too little. The kids are older now and are learning to be independent so parents are not required to oversee, but can easily do so using the iPad apps.

My kids were a part of a different Nassau County School District last year and I noted the difference in behaviors with the children in this school versus the previous school. The children my kids associate with are well-behaved, courteous and respectful. In their previous school, the kids were courteous and respectful but not when their parents were not around.

I have transferred my son from a nearby parochial school as I wanted him to be exposed to a nurturing academic environment that offers cultural diversity and sensitivity. The transition went well and by the end of the third week of the school year, the only thing that he missed from the other school were a couple of friends. He was enthusiastic about school again. He actually even tried to run for student council the year after. I was shocked when he told me he was going to run, as the year before Jackson, he was not enthused about school at all. So our decision to make that change was worthwhile as he is excited about school again.
