School prepares students beyond academics with a very forward modern learning experience. Students have many opportunities at Mineola High School. You have to want to put the work into it. There are some english learners that might have different hurdles and not place grades on the forefront, that is unfortunate but happens. For the most part, most families are very education minded here. As a parent it's important to be involved in your child's schooling and know who your child is friends with. This school is 8-12 and the rating includes 8th grade scores. District/Board is aware of this and has been actively raising scores with better teaching/accountability thus better student results. The preparation and better teaching should start early on, 3rd-5th grade, with an emphasis on math facts and ela concepts. I would like to see library at lower/middle levels teaching research skills. Learning starts early on, principals need to continue to push for strong foundations and check that grade level teachers are consistent. The HS has great course options and many clubs. There's an additional building for alternative/ modern learning experiences and the main traditional academic building. There is security with front entrance guard. This is important to me as a parent. Music & Art are great. There's an academic emphasis, however, sports seem to be up and coming now with more student involvement and better coaching. In a nutshell, this school nurtures the whole student learning experience, there are many program options at the High School to help everyone succeed and or advance. Would recommend 100%!!

Excellent teachers and administration my daughter is currently a senior and she had a great experience with rigorous AP classes great theater program plenty of sports and activities for students to excel in. Mineola HS does not get the credit for all the work they do with their students. Its definitely a hidden gem, as an educator myself I never had to worry about my daughters education. Great experience

I have 3 kids in the district and 2 of them at the high school. They've had an exemplary experience. There are so many resources to help them excel. I am proud of my district and I would recommend it to anyone.

I would highly recommend the Mineola UFSD, I have 2 kids currently one in 7th middle school (entering HS in Sept) and one in 3rd grade. Through these years I have seen my boys grow academically, socially and culturally. There is one secret behind their success - it's their teachers. Under the leadership of the Superintendent Dr. Nagler who was awarded the 2019 Superintendent in NYS and there are 811 school district.
They live and preach the GROWTH MINDSET...it's okay to make mistakes you learn and grow from the mistakes. They are an Apple distinguished school so yes they do use iPads but the teachers are mindful of the time spent on it. And thankful for their preparedness, they were well beyond their years when the pandemic hit and we all went into Lockdown in March '2020 Mineola Middle School and up conveniently moved to virtual the next day... followed by the Elementary grades within the same week.

Mineola High School is a modern, forward thinking, technology driven school with caring teachers, administrators and staff. Both of my children have been in the district since Kindergarten, and are now 8th grade honor students. We couldn't be more pleased with their education.

The high school offers the choice of 21 advanced placement courses, as well as a cohort program with Farmingdale State
College and LIU Post which affords students the opportunity to earn approximately 24 college credits in computer science! There is a very strong fine arts department, athletics department and countless clubs. The student service center has many ways for students to get involved with the community. There is a focus on being a good "global citizen".

The high school building has been well maintained and recent updates include new furniture, windows, air conditioning, a new auxiliary gym and strength training center, a FABLAB (which includes 3D printers) and so much more. I strongly encourage anyone considering moving to the district to arrange a tour of the school so they can see for themselves what they have to offer.

When the pandemic first hit in March 2020 and schools were shut down, our district was able to start teaching students virtually almost immediately due to a 1:1 iPad program. Besides education, the school has provided a warm, engaging atmosphere for the students during this unprecedented time. They are offering intramurals for sports that are not currently allowed to be played, virtual and some in person clubs, music programs and more, which is just amazing to me.

We have been in this school district for a few years now and I think it's great. One of my kids is "gifted" and they get lots of enrichment opportunities and extra work so they are not bored. One of my other kids had an IEP and we always felt supported and like his needs were being taken into consideration.

There's no incentive from leadership to become more competitive compared to other schools in the area. They've rested their laurels on their fine arts achievements (which I admit is good) and their 'shiny' (but ineffective) technology choices.

This whole district uses the IPAD and uses apps and Khan Academy for HW. Since they're experimenting, every year is a new app and there's no consistency or real understanding of how to use technology effectively.

No.. They have average expectations for children. They are satisfied with smart kids, but don't give resources to enrich. Therefore, over time the children become mediocre.

I find it horrible that students who are advanced do not get opportunities to excel. This school has resources for struggling students, but none for those who are advanced. They focus on Math and ELA so much (for the tests I think), and then they cut social studies and foreign language. My children have social studies once a month on average. They have a geography worksheet in the beginning and a couple of readings on current events (from Time for Kids) and that's it. They take 4 days to teach students to write 1 paragraph by giving them templates and forms instead of explaining the thinking behind writing. They don't learn decimals until 5th grade. Its very poor.

I have had two children go through the Mineola school district in recent years. I've seen the changes with the consolidation of schools, and I believe the students ended up well-adjusted. The class sizes are decent. The teachers we have encountered are caring and competent. The district is really building the STEAM programs, always a plus to encourage students in these areas. There are numerous AP classes offered at the HS to make the kids more competitive in the college application process. The students also learn another language early on. Everyone gets an iPad in the district and much of the learning uses this tool to engage the students. They are also investing in their science research programs. The Fine Arts departments are magnificent, students are taught instruments early on and encouraged to join music clubs. There are many sport teams. The district is everything one would expect from the suburbs: small classes, caring teachers, homecoming, a sense of community. Another plus is the diversity of the student body. We wanted our children to be in a school district with different races and ethnicities, and Mineola certainly has this.
