Horrible school . Teachers are young and messy! Getting students business and act like kids themselves/ principal Sara corona scared of staff so she doesn't stand up for students who are bullied by insecure teachers - no field trips hardly and education sucks - can't keep principals and teachers - do not send your kids here

The school has a high faculty turnover starting from the principal. Students feel safe but my child came home almost daily telling us about a fight or a student that was out of control. We experienced a few different altercations involving a troublesome male student as well as several of the students and staff had issues with the same male but nothing was done to truly address the issue. The school work we saw was the subject of disagreements at home as we the parents thought the work was being taught incorrectly and at levels that weren't practical for the world we live in. Learning was less than desired. Our child barely had homework and we couldn't really see what she was learning for that very reason. We would ask the staff they would passify us with a assignment or two then back to no homework. We were told that do to substitute teachers and new staff adjusting it made it difficult to guage where the children were in learning. They also kept playing the covid online learning card even in 2023. We moved out the district and put our child into a district school. First off we've received more correspondence from the new school in a month than we did from EVCS for this school year. The unfortunate thing is this correspondence confirmed what we as parents fear. Our child is behind in learning. She isn't meeting the metrics for her grade level based on testing she took when she arrived. But EVCS had her meeting standards for her grade They aren't equipped to move to going k-8 next school yr. There is no stability. I hate to say but I think EVCS is doing what they need to do to meet the criteria for their charter but are failing the students. EVCS doesn't grade by percentage or points letter grade they use a numeric system for all students like students in k-3. This system fails the students once the school environment changes. Ask questions about staffing , talk to parents if possible, reach out on social media before choosing EVCS for your child's learning

This school seems great but the teachers are underpaid, constant turnover, terrible administrators that stay in their high paid positions for years and years. The best teachers quit quickly. The student behavior is out of control and the parents run the school but not in a good way. The rude Karen parents run it. It’s an unsafe building with water fountains that contain water with traces of lead in it.

The school is diverse, understands how to educate my adhd child and is based in responsive classroom. My child has been there since it opened 5 years ago and I have nothing but good things to say about it.

My child is far from a perfect student but unlike other area schools, the teachers and administrators here do not make him feel like a “bad kid” I would send my child here again in a heartbeat.

Hands down this is the best school. This is a model school for education and I wish other schools across the US would follow their lead. I couldn't be any happier with this school, the staff, the students, and their entire approach to education. It's a diverse, inclusive school that truly feels like one big family.

This schools gives a very reasonable amount of homework without extreme pressure on the students. They do not focus on letter grades, but on simply becoming the best students they can be and mastering the knowledge.

Teachers at EVCS Hertel see their students as individuals. They do an incredible job of identifying what their students interests, strengths, weaknesses and struggles are. They use this knowledge to help their students grow, love school, connect to their community & overcome obstacles.

This is a huge part of EVCS. They have a responsive classroom and focus on social emotional development. My children do "i-messages" to discuss their feelings with other students. Whenever I am in the school, all of the students seem happy & excited to be at school, well adjusted, and comfortable with their feelings. I've volunteered for multiple school events and all of the students are respectful and I've witnessed countless "acts of kindness" amongst students when no one is looking. Genuinely kind kids.

Kathy Jamil is an incredible director. She goes above and beyond for her students and will never stop advocating for them. She take concerns seriously and acts on them immediately.

I have one child at EVCS Hertel with an IEP, another child at the school who needs occupational therapy/reading intervention, and another child who is hyperactive and gifted. This school has gone above and beyond to accommodate each of my children. We have been met with compassion, understanding and creative brainstorming to find solutions to a variety of issues. We have yet to have an issue that we (the school and our family) can't find a solution for. The school goes above and beyond to make sure children with any differences do not feel any different or are treated poorly by other students. Children are taught to be understanding of differences.

My children have experienced bullying at EVCS but it was handled in a unique and amazing way. When my kids were bullied, our concerns were addressed the day that the school was informed. Teachers spoke to my children and the children who bullied, then they had everyone come together to talk about it and how it made everyone feel. There were consequences for the bully, but they also dealt with the underlying issues instead of just punishing. This prevents future bullying. My children felt heard, understood and really liked this approach. The bullying stopped and they were able to work together in class peacefully. They have a saying at the school "Hurt kids, hurt kids". Typically children who are hurting will bully other kids. They want to know why they are hurting and how to help them, while protecting and helping the child who has been bullied.
