I'm a public school teacher and have my child at this school. We love it. The teachers are attentive and the engagement with families is spot on. I recommend.

The quality of education at OWN2 is very high. The teachers are highly motivated to teach. Starting in kindergarten the students have teachers for Spanish, art, music, gym/health and library.
The school is situated in a big new building where everything is new and they do not share their space with another school, that is good. OWN2 is technology savvy and all the students have access to laptop computers. To enhance the reading, math and computer skills, the school has programs such as I-Ready, Raz-kids and Epic. There is also afterschool programs.
All the staff is very supportive and there is warm family atmosphere here. The principal, Mr Wilkins sets the tone, he is warm and supportive to staff and students. The students feel free to stop and talk with him anytime.
I strongly recommend OWN2 to everyone and as soon as my other 2 grandkids get older they will apply to attend this school.

I have 2 children that attend OWN2 charter school and they both love to go to school every day. The teachers and staff are very engaging and enthusiastic about teaching. They provide art, music, spanish and stem classes for their students starting from grade K. My daughter even made it to the spelling bee finals in kindergarten. The principal of the school, Mr. Wilkins, is every welcoming and responsive to all concerns. He knows all his students (and most parents) by name, which I found to be incredible. Ms. Wallace and Mr. McLean keep the school running smoothly and the kids love them. The school building is newly built, bright and colorful. The bathrooms are clean and well kept. Before COVID I was able to take a tour of the building and once I saw it I was sold. The school even provides after-school programs which was a must for me since I don't leave work until 5pm. If you are looking for an elementary school, this one is worth looking into. You won't be disappointed.

My twins are currently in kindergarten here and they love it. The teachers are wonderful, everyone knows each other and you can tell the students enjoy coming to school.
They don't have uniforms like most of the elementary schools in the area which I love. All the classrooms have tons of natural light and there are windows everywhere. You don't get that old fashioned dark school building feeling.
Spanish starts in kindergarten and they have full time Spanish, music, art and stem teachers. When the kids were doing virtual learning due to covid, they each got sent home with their own ipad already logged into their OWN2 email accounts which made accessing classwork super simple.
I'd definitely recommend this school to any parent looking at an elementary school near Howard Beach. They go up to 5th grade and I plan to have my kids here the whole time.

Great school culture with caring teachers and administrators. Strong social emotional curriculum as well as academic curriculum.
