Only care about ratings and looking good, a lot going on that is not addressed properly- kids basically do whatever they want -
some good teachers who care -

I am a current 11th with straight A's, going full IB diploma
people do as people do, especially kids
The kids who don't care are encouraged to care but they don't care; nothing can be done
kids who care have opportunities within the IB structure and electives, and the club system is phenomenal
no matter what kind of kid their like, they can find kids like themselves to comfort themselves.
school is not particularly sports oriented but it does have varsity sports
electives are great here, many options and solid teachers
There are some teachers you wont like, especially if you don't like the subject, but the average teacher can get their lessons across well and there are a lot of fantastic teachers
A lot of really wicked smart kids go here but it doesn't feel elitist; I've heard it is more clicky than other schools, and while I don't know other schools, most people will have a group of friends that they spend most of their time with, though people don't advertise themselves by their friends
Administration and counseling center are suboptimal but its works; most rules are easy to follow and logical and it's not very strict during off periods
In 11th/12th, most classes have an option to take an easier v harder version of subjects; easier classes are effectively exclusively based on strong effort/motivation, while the harder classes demand an abundance of it, along with reasonable reasoning skills
Overall, great school for students who want to excel, the average student will find the harder classes challenging but rewarding, or the easier classes comfortable, and the weaker student will find themselves in easier classes. No matter what sort of kid you are, you can find similar people and the school is comfortably sized to not be too big where its intimidating, but big enough where there are enough people for you to say, 'I must be doing well because I'm not like them'. I've enjoyed the time I spent here, but unfortunately am going to hit the character limit and have to stop procrastinating my work.

Speaking as a former student, SSHS prepared me well for college and beyond and I was surprised to only see 7/10. One issue I have with this review is the AP test participation and pass rate. South Side offers and emphasizes IB courses (the international equivalent of AP) and only a limited selection of AP courses are offered. I hope this metric is not negatively effecting the overall score.

SOUTHSIDE High School is a wonderful institution for learning. I have 3 children in this district, one who has already graduated, one who is in her senior year and one who will begin next year. I have always felt my children received a top notch education here! Most teachers were helpful and caring. The one thing that I feel would give South Side greater recognition, would be to have more minority students involved in extra curricular activities and even allow them to start up clubs that appeal more to them. I would like them to look into a Step team club or even have a class on African-American studies. There is still a small divide when it comes to this area. I have asked some of the students why they don't do more activities and they say because they don't feel welcome and they never get chosen to be a leader. Have you seen an African-American student be a leader for Red and Blue?! I will never leave this wonderful school district until my last child has graduated. Thank you teachers and administrators for doing a wonderful job!!

Currently, I will be going into my sophomore year at SSHS. Lots of the teachers are very good, however you do see some teachers who aren't as good. They have a huge amount of extracurriculars, and the food is better than the middle school. Kids have more freedom, as you are allowed to wear hats, carry backpacks, chew gum, and leave campus during your off periods. They also have great choices for electives (Go computer graphics!). Overall, I love it.

Excellent in all ways. Great principal, teachers and kids. Excellent program and the scores you report are way off.... SSHS is tops with a Regents diploma rate of 99%. Best integrated district in the country.
