2 children so far of ours have graduated from Sweethome highschool. Both took AP, were involved in extra curricular activities , high honors and more. It’s like any other highschool. You have good teachers and bad teachers - good students and bad students. Both of my children had pleasant experiences. The attitude of children vs school starts at home. No complaints here.

I was a student here for all 4 years of high school. As a student moving from the nashville area to NY...it was a HUGE change for me. If you're not aware...NY state education is one of the best educations you could ask for your child. I joined the military during my junior year of high school. SH worked with me to allow me to forfeit walking across the stage so I could leave a week before graduation to go to my job training in the military. All the teachers and coaches; as a student athlete, were fantastic! The best coaches and teachers I could have asked for! The memories I made here will be with me forever. I am part of the alumni association. SH even created a wall of honor to honor all Veterans that joined the military; and asked us to come to the opening ceremony of the wall of honor. If you can think of an activity; SH had a club or after school activity for you! Now having kids of my own; I would appreciate everything from drill team for my daughter to chess club for my son. This schools has it all! Would definitely recommend.

I have two kids enrolled and this has been their first year. It’s been amazing because the staff care so much. Any time I reach out the staff responds promptly and really work with my kids to make sure they are on track. Student Services, teachers, and school counselors have all been phenomenal. My daughter is getting college credits in her Junior and will be in her Senior year and my other daughter will be looking into the career programs. It’s an amazing school and I’m so so thankful for the educators there. Class sizes are small too so the kids are getting the attention they need. Amazing! Couldn’t be happier!

As a student, I would have to say our school is pretty average. Depending on the courses you take you can get a great education and manage to enjoy yourself with extracurriculars. Currently we are having a slight issue with our administration. Our principal from last year was removed because he was very strict and unliked by all the students and teachers. Our temporary principal is doing great right now though and the amount of students who wander the hall has gone down as well. We do have a lot for special ed students but if you are considering sending a special needs child here I'd get in contact with the administrators and special ed staff. I have found that sometimes the homework is too much and way to stressful but teachers are mostly understanding about that. Our teachers are very kind and they connect well with the students, I have many teachers here that I consider myself to be friends with. All in all I do think that this school is better than others and that we have a strong sense of school spirit.

A lot is assigned so they can make sure you have a good grasp on the information.

Sweet Home High School, like the district itself, is undergoing a massive socio-economic demographic shift in a downward direction as inner-city residents pour into the western part of Amherst. The school still provides opportunities to excel academically -- lots of AP courses, college courses through Niagara University, and an excellent music program. Honor students in the Class of 2015 will be enrolling in top-tier colleges like Stanford and Cornell. The sports programs are superb, too.

Faculty and administrators face a tough, uphill challenge because they've been trained to deal with middle- and upper-middle-class Amherstonians; hence, teachers and admin often struggle to cope with the inner-city transplants. As a parent, I can attest to the suburban students struggling too -- except for the International Academy and honors classes, the high school population looks like Bennett High's, with transplants frequently harassing better students as well as teachers.

If you want your child to experience diversity, Sweet Home High School is a great place. If you'd prefer a more Amherstonian experience for your child, Williamsville North and Williamsville East might be better choices.

Awful school. Lots of bullying problems in the high school, wouldn't advise to send your kids here.
