Saints Joseph's University School believes in developing the whole child and not making them good test takers. There goal is to create a safe and welcoming environment for all students of every race. They believe in diversity and reaching out to the community. I have seen children grow and develop into good and caring people. Great Job, SJUS!!

I love teaching at St. Joseph University School! It is a very warm, nurturing environment. The principal, faculty and staff are wonderful in helping each child to achieve their full potential throughout their school career. Each child grows academically, socially and most importantly, spiritually. We offer so many opportunities for growth with the Leader In Me program, a variety of sports teams and Stream Initiative. All these and more, create a well developed child!

As the counselor at St Joe’s I am aware of much of what goes on here.Students are always free to come and talk in an accepting , non judgmental atmosphere. When situations arise we explore all possibilities and take care to make sure that all of our students are happy and well adjusted . We are very available to parents to discuss all aspects of their children’s development. This is a kind and caring community and I’m happy to be a part of it..

Teachers at SJS provide a safe, caring environment for all students. The students always come first. We learn about all subject areas - including reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, STREAM, and religion. We use the Leader in ME program to guide students into becoming the best people they can be. Our goal is to prepare everyone for the future! EVERYONE can be great!

St. Joseph University School is a school where children can reach their whole potential. I especially appreciate their educational approach of teaching the whole child, enrichment is a major focus.

Approachable, but they do not let parents run the school. Sometimes that means making unpopular decisions

Posted: November 16, 2018

Been VERY supportive my child's accommodation needs and helping her to succeed

Posted: November 16, 2018

Haven't had too much experience with this, it was dealt with at the classroom level but approachable

Posted: November 16, 2018

Been there many years and value the diversity and small community feel

Posted: November 16, 2018

Not too much busywork, but do have projects and homework when needed in upper grades

Posted: November 16, 2018

Young but enthusiastic teachers, some better than others of course, like any school

Posted: November 16, 2018

Religious foundation and strong commitment to service and engagement

My child was bullied instead of the principal protecting my child he opted to protect the children. He does not want to get involved and makes promises that he fully intends to not fulfill. He is absolutely incompetent and only wants to sweep problems under the rug. Also there were issues that I was never informed of that my child expressed to the school.

There is no accountability when a child has done something wrong. Except for the student that was suspended for chewing gum on 3 occasions

Posted: October 17, 2018

The overall experience is okay, but if you are a concerned parent do not send your children here. I pulled mine after the bullying incident

Terrible experience at this school. Bullying is rampant for years. The teachers are....there. Not much more than that. The administration consists of a figurehead principle who asserts little to no control or decision making. Incidents are not filed or reported to parents, and while a strong connection with your child is of course a must, it's also a requirement for survival in this school, as no one is going to warn you that your child was harassed physically, verbally, and emotionally for weeks on end. I have no idea how anyone can learn in this environment.

My son had a few minor issues with other students and I was never contacted at all by any staff. I had to hear my son cry after school after constant issues.

Horrible experience. Constant false promises from administrations, teachers constantly leaving because the organization and communication is terrible here. My sons first year here and he will not be returning.

Posted: June 9, 2018

My sons teacher had no structure what so ever and the administration always promised to assist and help her get organized and never did. I could never get ahold of the teacher and never knew what my son was learning.

The leader or principal at this school has so respect for the parents who pay tuition and could care less who stays or goes.

My son attended this school for 3 years and it was terrible. The reason we stuck it out was because we believed the administration promises. My child was hit on the head with a chair, almost pulled into a bathroom stall and bullied daily! The administration apologized and promised changes, but never followed through. This places harbors bulling and doesn't involve any of the bullies parents. The education is OK, but not anything special. This school doesn't have a real bulling policy, the administration are not professional and the education isn't great. So if you have an intelligent, creative child, this school is not for them. Please don't make the same mistake that my family did and don't entrust these people with your precious child.

We are in year 12 out of 15 years we will be in the school, educating all three of our kids. Here is what you will not learn by reading about standardized test scores -- this school has a diverse student body, challenging curriculum, sports and fine arts which are beyond what you'd expect from a medium sized parochial school. They are committed to educating each and every child to their potential, with a gifted and talented program as well as remediation in reading and math. When one child developed some special needs we were warmly supported and developed a collaborative plan for accommodation that still enabled the child to do well. Families are active and connected through many school activities and parents are welcomed.

Our oldest child completed an advanced track of math & science in middle school here: she took 7 & 8 grade algebra & science and then she (& her classmates) took 9th grade Algebra & Living Environment (Bio) in 8th grade. All the kids who completed this program at SJUS passed the Algebra I and Living Environment Regents exams at the end of their 8 grade year & started high school in 10 grade courses in math & science. How amazing is that? In addition, our child was placed in honors programs for literature & history - all because of the terrific foundation she received at SJUS. In addition to the stellar academic program (it's the only catholic school with a gifted & talented program, BTW) the school recognizes that students have multi-faceted talents, so they incorporate music, art, drama & phys ed into the day. The teachers are highly-educated, engaging, enthusiastic & challenging. My kids use iPads, & computers in their classes. To address the comments about staffing changes: the 1 co-principal has been there since at least 2009, & they recently hired another one, simply because the job is too big for just one person these days. They complient one other nicely.

The school has a rigorous academic program with hard working teachers, but the staff and student body constantly changes, including hiring a new principal. One of the other parents mentioned in their 2009 review, that the school is revamping, which means that there hasn't been any consistency in the last five years. Test scores are at there lowest, which suggests that all the changes have not benefited my child, or the other students.

We have all three of our school-aged kids at St. Joe's and our fourth will join them in a couple of years. St. Joe's boasts a diverse student body and a faculty that not only challenges and inspires the kids on an academic level, but also in matters of spirituality, social justice, and faith formation. Staff development is a strength -- one of the administrators is a retired educator whose strength is curriculum and classroom techniques. There are also several retired career educators from the parish who offer their time and talent to provide critical staff development. There is also a dedicated cadre of parents and family members who help make the school a true community -- not just a place where you send your kids to school. The new school administrators have done and continue to do an amazing job in meeting the challenges that are inevitably a part of Catholic elementary and middle school education -- we are grateful for their efforts and for the work that the teachers and staff are doing.

We are in our second year at St Joseph's and couldn't be happier. Our children are having the same values instilled at school and at home. We came from the public schools and were very glad to find a Catholic school with a diverse population. The changes in programming were being implemented as we started so we've not experienced the problems others have. There has been some teacher turnover but I feel that has been to the benefit of the school. The teachers are dedicated and caring and really take time to know their students. The introduction of extracurricular activities has been exciting and my kids are discovering new things they like and are developing new goals as they grow.
