If you haven't gone to or sent your children to a private school it is a very different experience.

St. Peter's is more of a community than a school, engagement is not just one way from administration down, but between parents and teachers. That is an expectation of parents at this school to be able to engage and impact their children's education.

While private schools have many challenges that public schools don't face (FUNDING) St. Peter's has a team of dedicated teachers and staff many of whom have been with the school for a long time and who make a huge difference. The people are what makes a school especially a private school strong and the engaged parents, teachers, staff and the greater Lewiston community have continued to support this school and make it great.

Though a relatively small school, St. Peter's provides its students with a quality education with a learning environment that is second to none in this area. There is such a sense of camaraderie amongst the students and, generally speaking, their conduct seems very respectful and mature. The facilities are very good with significant upgrades and improvements having been made recently.

We do not believe multiple worksheets in the primary grades are effective ways to support student learning.

Catholic Schools Week is a great time to reflect on the educational experience we have chosen for our daughters. St. Peter's was the answer to our prayer for our young tenderhearted girls. Choosing a Catholic education at St. Peter's has been a blessing. Father David, Mrs. Ingham and their teachers truly nourish their hearts, minds and spirits. St. Peter's is a peaceful, loving place for our girls to get an education. We are truly grateful the Lord lead us to a Catholic education and St. Peter RC School.

St. Peter RC School has blessed our family in so many ways. The teachers are encouraging, creative and supportive. The foundation of faith brings out the best in every student. The respect amongst everyone and dedication of the administration is the backbone of this amazing school.

St. Peter School teachers, staff, and administration care about every student in the building. Their devotion to the success of each and every student is evident in how they conduct themselves in the classrooms and at after school activities--offering extra help when they notice a student is struggling; listening to the students and empowering them to be responsible, productive individuals; assigning appropriate homework; and providing guidance to families so that they are familiar with the lessons. St. Peter School is giving our children excellent academics in a caring environment. The students not only receive a good, well-rounded education, they also learn to become good people. School is a place where they can talk about God and their faith, whether Catholic or not, and how faith can help guide them through life's challenges.

St. Peter's is a wonderful school with great people. My daughter switched over from another school last year and she just loves this school and has never been happier. It's so nice to see a smile on her face first thing in the morning....every morning.

I feel St. Peter's is a challenging school that keeps my daughter engaged in her school work. We are very happy and blessed to be part of a Catholic school and the St. Peter's Family.

I'm consistently amazed by how mature and respectful the students here are. The 'Golden Rule' is taught early and often.

My daughter is given enough homework that it underscores what she learned in class and prepares her as she progresses into older grades; but not so much that's overwhelming. Plus it gives us as parents an opportunity to see what she's learning in class and how she's progressing.

Because they take the time to listen to you as a parent.

This is my daughter's second year at St. Peter's and she loves it there. In particular, she has a great teacher who's warm and encouraging, while also maintaining high standards and expectations. Both her teacher and the school principal (who knows every student by name) are very responsive when there's ever any questions or concerns. The school itself also just underwent some major renovations, including a new media center and library. It's gorgeous, cutting edge – and not necessarily something you'd expect from a smaller Catholic school. Plus, being a faith-based environment, values such as unconditional love and helping others are constantly reinforced. Overall, we're very happy with the school.

Homework is given on a regular basis, but rarely is it burdensome.

Very old-fashioned school, hard to work with. They are always right, you are always wrong. No one listens.

The leadership commanded by Mrs. Maureen Ingham is questionable at best. From the teacher morale to the overall environment of the school it is one of negativity. From my children's responses coming home from school, they were often of concern to me. The reaction of leadership to incidences and disciplinary action taken, or lack thereof, enforced inconsistent disciplinary policies. Over 2 years, my children had to deal with unexplained departures of several faculty and staff. The reasons offered by leadership as to their departure were considered, by my children, to be untruthful. I believe that this is a direct result of poor leadership. I have found Mrs. Ingham to be unapproachable and unwilling to discuss or compromise issues I have brought forth. My children are not returning for the 2014-2015 school year and I would not recommend St. Peter's to any potential families.

Academically, this is a good school. The long term faculty members (those who have been there for 3 or more years) are excellent to work with and are truly child centered. Our children have done well from that perspective. It is a very small school, with small class sizes. This works well for individual attention. And for a private school in this area, it is reasonably affordable. Those are what could be considered the plus factors to take into account.

My children have all attended St. Peter's in the elementary and middle school. There has been some changes in the past couple years, however, all for the greater good. We have an extraordinary Principal and administration to go with it. This leadership has guided our school to be a standout-academically and athletically. To top this all off, we have a continuing faith base that embodies the staff and our children. This starts on the ground floor from the pre-k program right on up to our parent volunteers. Our parent volunteers live by the mantra, "it's not about us, it is all about the children." This allows us to continually move forward. The teacher to student ratio is idyllic for both self motivated students and students requiring assistance. St. Peter's has reinforced all that I as a parent have continually tried to instill in children. This reinforcement has allowed them to master "The Golden Rule." I highly recommend this school for families who are looking for the simple attributes which have been lost in today's society. Be nice, Be kind and always Be grateful.

My children were there for two years in the middle school. The first year they attended was great. My oldest daughter went in to school with an attitude of "I don't care" and came out with the attitude of "I can do better than a 94". My youngest child was in the best possible place. This second year was a disaster. Academically it was good but as far as administration and parent involvement it was awful. The school secretary was curt to not only me but my husband and my child attending the school. And the principal, who is a different principal from the last year, was the same and showed disdain toward other parents. I would not enroll my children again.

My children have attended St. Peters since Pre-K and we have had such a positive experience that I cannot imagine sending my children anywhere else. All of the teachers are superb and seem to be there because they truly care about providing an excellent education for their students. My son and daughter love attending school each day and have excelled in their academics because they are being taught with love, by teachers that want them to succeed. The school leadership, both the Principal and Vice-Principal, are involved with the children on a daily basis and really help mold the entire student body to be productive members of our community. While the school excels in State Testing, that is not the schools focus but instead they seem to care about shaping the whole student. I'd encourage all parents of the Lewiston-Porter Community to look at St. Peters for their children.
