The Leadership at Cohoes High is horrendous. Nobody holds anyone accountable, from administration to coaching staff. Mediocrity is acceptable here.

Far too much homework, yet no school books are provided for the children to bring home. Online research was discouraged. In short, their approach to homework is engineering the failure of the child to learn.

Remember when a "final" was a "final?" It is called that because that is the final test for a course for the year. The math course had three finals. One was the regents final. One was the common core final. The last "final" was the "math course final" that required students to take additional after school programs to be taught the material. If this sounds confusing, it is. Whats more is the school threatened to lower the student's final course grade by 25 percent for each final missed.

This school teaches the children they cannot depend on anyone but themselves. Don't misconstrue this to mean individuality and self confidence. Rather understand that this discourages trust in the establishment and establishes a deep bitterness and resentment that will damage children for the rest of their lives.

The leadership of the school system in Cohoes displays a negative attitude towards traditional American families and family values. The attitude displayed is more along the lines of "You pop the kids out, then they belong to us." No respect given to parents at all.

If you live in the downtown area(bordered by Bedford St on the west and 787 on the east), the Cohoes school system is quick to classify your child as being learning disabled and will actually require your child to pass tests to prove they are not disabled. If you live on the hill (west of Bedford St) the situation is different as people on the hill are considered wealthy and desirable.

The high school is right in line with the rest of the schools in Cohoes. The only safe kids in the school are the bullies. Reports of bullying are buried, ignored, or lost. The victims doing the reporting are punished.

The stress of common core broke my daughter in 9th grade. We got her into counseling while launching an initiative to homeschool her. The school threatened to hold her back all year only to push her through at the end of the year. Homeschool scholastic testing showed she was ready to enter 8th grade, not 10th.
The school refused to release her records and went so far as to alter documents we submitted for the homeschooling. They finally did their job and released her records after we threatened legal/police action.

they have a way of creating ill will and tension with class division based on living locations ...the poor vs the rich

cohoes has become a laughing stock.....its district has the worst behavior toward the people of the city who pay for its keep....now they don't send the second half of the tax bill out.....i wonder if this is a way of trapping people who forget to pay into late fees....just another symptom of a horrific school

I loved this school, I wish I could go back. Most of the students were respectful. Of course you will have that few who disrupt class, but very limited here. Teachers will take their time with you if needed. Everyone I knew loved it at Cohoes High School.

Cohoes School district has been wonderful for both of my daughters. The principals, teachers and staff are all very approachable with even the most minor concerns a parent may have.

I have loved having my daughter go to this school. Cohoes gets a bum rap but it has excellent schools!!
