Stressful work environment, no respect for teachers, high teacher turnover rate, data is most important than learning. Horrible leadership with no effective communication. Don’t waste your time working here.

Attended this school from 2005-2010. I was bullied constantly, and the teachers did nothing about it. I showed constant signs of having an intellectual disability, but I had only been diagnosed in my mid twenties. I showed repeated signs of this disability and would often tell my teachers that I thought there was something off about me, that I needed some kind of help, but not only did they not catch it, but they didn't offer me even the slight amount of support I needed.
I had a classmate who was constantly bullied and harassed at this school. He told me, over a decade later, he still has nightmares about it.
I knew of another student who told their parents about the severe negligence and endangerment that happened during one school-chaperoned event, and not only did their classmates harass them for tattling, but the teachers did, too.
I hope things have changed, but I would never want anyone to experience what me and my friend had gone through in this school. The teachers were negligent and the community is hostile.
Overall, the teaching methods were promising, but the poor staff behavior made this a terrible school to attend.

It is a very special place. Children thrive in a nurturing positive and encouraging environment. Students are top priority for everyone in the building, a feeling that is evident from the moment you walk in the doors. We have been at TRCS for 8 years and love it. We commute from Astoria every day to attend this school. My children look forward to come to school every day and never want to leave every evening.
Clearly the administration has done something right to foster this amazing culture where everyone is important loved and not left behind. The staff is happy, and that extends to the care of our students and families!

I wrote a 4 star review in 2016 .. but by 2018 we were out. There are assaults in the hallways and a blatant disregard for teaching kids to respect each other. And some of the kids can't even be restrained by larger adults. The School Culture and Student Support leader is flaccid in her non-DOE compliant discipline code. I would appreciate that they try to address "all children's needs" but in the end my child felt frightened and scared daily. And when we reported things we felt as though the reporting student/victim was doubted and the aggressors (whose parents were uninvolved) got more attention and not enough thorough reprimanding to make any difference. Numerous complaints that boys make references to budding girl's body parts, no real sex ed taught or respect discussions to keep kids from making remarks or grabbing each other. This school needs a discipline overhaul. It's unfortunate that the teachers are phenomenal but the safety is a real concern.

This school seems to favor the bully rather than the bullied. They seem to want to push out children that have been victimized on school grounds.

There is a general air of disrespect, the teachers seem to be apathetic to the needs of their children, especially when emotional support is needed.

Our child attends this school and has been assaulted repeatedly in the hallway. Rather than addressing the situation, the teacher and administration sought to lay blame on the victim. The situation became so unbearable, that we had to seek outside assistance. We may not be returning for another term.

Bullies teachers, failing test scores, top teachers leaving, lack of student code of conduct, students are allowed to write up teachers, incompetent administration, school policies are made up depending on parent or child.

One of the things I have to warn students coming to this school is that the history teacher you are assigned in Junior year till Senior year gives wrong information and avoids answers she is not capable of answering. She has been putting numerous students in the spot by asking them questions that could not be answered. The teacher would continue putting the students in the spot though they do not know the answer. My daughter's friend herself was put in the spot numerous times and went through depression. It's surprising to know that there has been no reports against this teacher for targeting certain students during class till they are depressed. Overall, this teacher is biased as she is most friendly to the students who has the favor of the college bound teacher. In the principal has delayed the time that the senior students who have graduated to receive their money for trips that was not used.

TRCS has very professional teachers, they are using modern ways to teach not memorizing like other schools. When you are there you feel like you e at home everybody treats you as a family member. They have chess, art, drama, sports, cooking, gardening etc.

I love Rensizzle Week at TRCS! It is an awesome experience for children, who get a bit of a break from the usual classroom, but don't stop learning.

My daughter has been at Renaissance since kindergarten and is currently in 3rd grade. Her teachers have been stellar in both their teaching of academics, and good citizenship. While I am deeply appreciative of both, it is the real dedication to the latter that makes this school extra special. I attended the K-6th grade talent show just this past Friday and was blown away by the supportive atmosphere. The highschool kids running the show were great with the little ones; and the participating kids and their friends in the diverse audience encouraged one another and cheered for one another in a way that was really quite heart warming. Nothing like the popularity contest such an event would have been like at my own junior high school. Ya gotta love it.

I am very dissapointed with the school. The Staff is very unprofessional. The teachers doesn't know how to deal with kids with disabilities. It's a total disaster. I totally regreat the day my kid went to this school.Going to change school. Not recommended.
