Personally, I didnt have a good experience at Gaskill. I felt that some students were treated unfairly, and there were multiple situations where I felt like my concerns werent taken seriously. The school was also pretty boring and strict. At lunch, we werent even allowed to get up and leave when we wanted. We were told when we could get up and get our food, which honestly felt like we were in elementary school. We werent allowed to use our phones, and we could only stay on our assigned side of the school. If we went to the other side just to say hi to our friends, we could get sent home. There was also a racist joke made, which I felt was completely inappropriate. One of my teachers even told me that she hated me, and nothing was done about it. I was also in choir, and there was an incident where a teacher stopped me and told me I couldnt go on a field trip. Another student was listening to the conversation, but when I pointed that out, the teacher basically said it was okay for him because he was in her class. I explained that I had joined choir partly because I wanted to participate in the field trip, and she questioned why I joined choir for that reason. She ended up saying this in front of the entire band, which embarrassed me. Another thing that really bothered me was how a bullying situation was handled. I defended myself after being bullied, and I ended up suspended and sent to alternative school, while the students involved only received suspensions. There was proof of what happened, so I felt like the consequences were extremely unfair. There was also a field trip I had been asking about for weeks. I was told I couldnt go, but another student was allowed to go even though they turned in their permission slip on the SAME DAY as the field trip. Even some of the security guards who worked there told me that they felt the school was bad and unfair, which honestly says a lot about the environment. Overall, I felt like the rules and consequences werent always applied equally. My experience may not be the same as everyone elses, but based on what I experienced, I personally would not recommend Gaskill.
