Irving has gotten a bad rap for many years, but recently they've tried to turn that around, especially with the newer admin. Yes, it has the lowest income population. Yes, student behavior is an issue. (Where is it not, in this day and age?) But teachers, counselors, and admin are doing their absolute best to empower students and prepare them for the future with the limited resources they have. Their hands are tied by the district, who care more about appearances than anything else. A lot of reviews on this website are written by disgruntled community members, so if you're considering sending your child to Irving, find someone who actually attends this school or sends their student there. Irving isn't perfect, but neither is the state of education.

It is hard to give a good review of a school that tells a parent, directly face-to-face, that they cannot guarantee the safety of their child while in their custody. Which results in the child being hit on physically ( slapped, punched, and shoved into walls.) and bullied daily and the Principal, Counselor, and School Resource Officer refuses to acknowledge it stating that thats just the way kids play. If a child does not want touched a child should not be touched in any way shape or form! This has happened multiple times pretty much every day so far this school year.

My son is currently a 7th grade student at Irving. The lack of respect given to teachers by the students makes it nearly impossible to hold a class where learning happens. The administration at Irving is not supportive to teachers, and allows students to spit at teachers, cuss at teachers and other classmates, and make threats toward teachers and other classmates without any repercussions. I would not recommend NPS schools due to the lack of effective and supportive leadership.

Students rule this school. My child did not learn much because there was so much disruption by other students who were misbehaving. Some teachers were great, but others did just enough to get by. The administration was terrible, too. They are not supportive of their teachers. I transferred my child to another school and was ill-prepared for the rigors of a normal school because of the very low bar set for the students. I would not recommend this school.

my granddaughter went here after going to a school that allowed bulling including the teachers. She had a hard time adjusting but the principles worked with her and her mother have nothing but respect for this school. Thank you to all of the staff there

I've been to many schools in Oklahoma- from John Marshall to Deer Creek. When I first moved to Norman, I didn't expect Irving to be decent. After my first WEEK there, I could see that I was wrong. I immediately made plenty of friends (without even getting that involved into clubs, sports, etc). Everyone is kind here, and not at all stuck up or "ghetto". It's a perfect school. Not at all cliquish. I have a hard time concentrating on what I actually should be learning, I usually concentrate on how the teacher teaches us. With this school, it was a completely different case. I learned so much in such a short amount of time. I also LOVE the extra curriculum options, so many. Also, just a little heads up, the Spanish classes are the best I've taken!

My daughter has been at Irving for a year and a half. She loves it there and has flourished. I can tell that she respects her teachers and thinks they respect her. I can easily check up in her grades. When she got off track with choices at school, I was contacted by teachers. We were able to steer her back and I felt the teachers were supportive of my daughter and myself. I would be comfortable to request a meeting with teachers at any time. My daughter is now involved with sports and I'm impressed with the coach. I have observed him emphasize character to his team, not just sports strategies. We're happy!
