I would rate Cooper Middle School a 7.5/10

The school had told students to be kind and respectful, but had not done anything to promote or encourage this type of behavior. Many of the students had a negative and innapropriate approach to many scenarios and mainly was because of the school’s inability to educate and promote positive behavior.

The members of leadership were somewhat kind and respectful, but many members had a poor personality and made rude comments about other students.

Many resolutions are made without morality in mind. The assistant principal would almost always go with the rules opposed to thinking logically and coming up with a propor solution.

The approach to homework was average, but there was still work to be done to fix some holes in the system. Mainly, teachers assigned homework without regarding help a student may need or if a student requests they not get any homework because of mental illness or funeral ect.. the teacher would give homework anyways.

Many of the teachers here possessed a sarcastic tone and didn’t get out of their way to help students who truly needed it. Mainly, teachers seemed like they hated their jobs based on the way they treated thwir students and openly complained about behavior without being supportive or helpful.

My overall experience in the school was very negative. Sarcastic staff, poor notification on events, improper teaching methods and the all around environment of the school could easily be described as a poor experience.

Kids are allowed to cuss, PDA, use phones instead of learning. The students are taught to look out for themselves only. Often parents would talk the principals out of punishment because the principals didn't want to deal with them. Very few students learned any values.

Some teachers try and after getting fed up and distrusting of everybody they move to a different school or district.

Entire district initiative to not give homework. They want to make sure students are the ones doing the work, so they only do things in class.

Cooper was an awful experience for me as a teacher. Teachers backstabbed, slacked, refused to bend for kids, and were generally unhappy. Most teachers stayed at Cooper because it was close to where they lived or the money. Most of the good teachers leave Cooper and go out of Putnam City district or to a high school. PTA was almost non-existent. Elective teachers were the only ones happy. The kids are great, but maybe a little rough. Fights are constant and result in suspension. Even big arguments where the fight is prevented still get the students suspended. Kids don't learn unless the parent cares. Principal is a cya kinda guy and is not strict enough. He lets the assistant principals try to handle everything and they are overwhelmed to the point where they are never available to teachers. No one is held accountable. Teachers are constantly late and never talked to. When a teacher does something wrong, a general email goes to everybody and nothing changes.

My son has attended this school since 6th grade. He has had the most amazing experience. The teachers, coaches and administration are absolutely amazing. He has played every sport, he has played in orchestra all 3 years and is in advanced classes. I am beyond pleased with this school and happy that he was student at KCMS!

My son went here for only 6 months of his 8th grade yr. Being that he was previously in a private school from pre-k to 8.. he was very shy. They were so helpful and really helped him. I didn't mind the no homework issue, he was spending 3-4 hours a night at his previous school doing homework so this was a nice break. I was mortified that i had to put him in this school at first, then I was so shocked with the happy outcome. the staff was amazing, from the front desk to the principle. I wish I would have pulled him out of private way before I did to attend cooper!
