Both of my children went here, one went on to graduate and get a full scholarship to his first choice school and chosen field. The things they do right: Diversity- From every demographic of life, race, culture, sexual orientation, etc. they celebrate it there. Not only is the student body very diverse, but the staff are as well, and I think that speaks volumes to the kind of school this is. They have fun after school groups that both support the minority group featured, and educate and include the students that are interested, not of that minority. Bullying- They do not tolerate it, period. The staff are very watchful of any behaviors and address it immediately. I only saw one instance in all 6 years I was there, a cyber situation between students, and it was solved swiftly. Every kid I have met there, was happy and felt included. My children were bullied horribly before coming here, to the point that I was truly scared for them, and they blossomed under the support of the staff and the warm inclusivity of the students. Curriculum- They always say, "We don't simply teach art, we use art to teach". This is a very important concept. While they do teach many aspects of art, you will find that art is integrated into almost every lesson, every subject, so the kids not only enjoy it more, they absorb the information better. Also, they have a strong curriculum, but they work very hard to make sure students have all the tools for success, including before and after school tutoring opportunities with each teacher, for one on one assistance. The Staff- I have never seen a group of teachers more involved with their student body. They work very hard to make sure the kids feel seen and heard. School activities- From random fun school-wide events to summer programs designed to help a student toward a career goal, they make sure kids have a good time. My personal favorites are the color wars where the staff join the kids with music, food, games, and powdered pigments flying, or self care night where several rooms in the school become relaxing sanctuaries or lessons in self care. The spa room and animal therapy room are very popular. I could go on for days, but the point is this is a place for kids to grow with grace.
