The Principal at Sequoyah Middle School is FANTASTIC. He is enthusiastic and very supportive of students. The Band Teachers are the best. They all deserve a bonus, a raise, and a new car (which the Band Directors certainly need). Some of the teachers are also exceptionally great, interactive, and supportive. They too, should be singled out, recognized, and rewarded. There are other teachers, however, who are just providing Internet Assignments and Worksheets and, as long as students turn in something, they get an "A." Some teachers could spend more time using the chalkboard and/or whiteboard explaining concepts to students in person, rather than relying on Computer Programs and the Internet for instruction. My student is doing well at Sequoyah because they are a good, independent learner, and usually the first to finish assignments (they are exceptionally easy). There is some ridicule by other students, for being "smart." A few teachers seem clueless that my student is being picked on for excelling in academics - these teachers are so immersed in keeping up with the computer programs and technology that they don't have time to supervise or do actual classroom teaching. When a student does well, they should be acknowledged, encouraged, and rewarded; and perhaps given additional assignments or projects (like helping the other students or doing the Science Fair) to keep them motivated. After school and at home, my student has absolutely no homework and seems very unchallenged with academic rigor. Most of the concerns at home revolve around stories of troublemaker students who have kicked, punched, or otherwise discouraged intelligent students from doing well on Internet Assignments and Worksheets. Because many teachers don't have the time to acknowledge good performance, the intelligent students are discouraged. There should be more time focusing on academic rigor and challenging students - and less time on discussing gender and race issues. As for gay pride week, that was over-done at the end of the School Year. In some cases, assignments and lessons were skipped to allow time for students to discuss homosexuality and transgenderism. Teachers should focus on academic content like reading, writing, arithmetic, science, social studies, etc., and less time on political issues. I am sure that, if teachers spent more time on academics, and encouraging students to excel academically, Sequoyah Middle School would be rated higher.

They don't take many seriousness in reports of students I've been harassed and I've made many reports and nothing was done about it

They give just enough homework. Not too little/not too much.

The teachers are good. Mostly depends on who you have, some are too strict though.

Sequoyah Middle School is a great place for your kid to learn, make new friends, build strong character and become responsible young adults. As a student myself I have seen a lot of great things and I really like the school. The teachers and staff are very engaging and like building relationships with students of all race, age, size, etc. The students are really nice too and friendly and like helping each other learn and stay focused in class. Overall Sequoyah is a great place for your child's middle school years, and the statistics prove it.

They don't drown you in homework but still give you enough to make you better at a subject which I like. Plus most of the homework is just work that you didn't get done in class and most of the time the teachers are nice and say we don't have to do the work that we didn't get finished for homework unless it is due the next day.

The teachers at this school do a great job at helping you succeed in school and are very interactive and helpful. They want you to be successful and will go the extra mile to help in any way they can.

The teachers and staff at Sequoyah Middle School want you to succeed and part of being successful is building and demonstrating strong character such as integrity, compassion, and respect. Every month we have a word of the month such as empathy, or perception and honor recognizing those students who demonstrate such abilities by having monthly assemblies and announcing names of students who showed those characteristics. By doing this it sets up role models and students to look up to plus you get rewarded for showing strong characteristic.

The teachers are really good leaders and role models but it is not just the teachers but also the students. Lots of the students are really nice and help one another and display very good leadership skills.

I strongly agree with this because lots of kids at our school have a wide variety of learning abilities and disabilities and the teachers and staff care that everyone is getting the same education no matter what the problem is. They also have special ed classes for students with learning disabilities and they don't force you into them if you have a learning disability, they leave that up to you and your parents to decide.

Apparently, being new at this school is a reason for all the kids to treat you terribly. I guess the area hates people from other states? Or maybe it's our race? I'm not 100% sure, but I wish my children could get an education AND have friendly kids around them.

My daughter and son both attend Sequoyah, and I couldn't be happier. Middle school is never easy, however Sequoyah builds an atmosphere of cooperation and acceptance. The teachers and staff are amazing. They have a wonderful music program with the best teachers in the world.

Sequoyah Middle School- Overall Disappointed- Some teachers are great but some are not or they're just out of college. I have to say that after relocating here, I had great hopes for my children to be educated a lot better than what they have been at this school. My advanced children were constantly put into the regular classes that were downright boring and literally just going over the same things they already knew. It took them going into the classes the following year to learn anything new and that wasn't until the end of the last semester. My kids have now fallen behind because of this. It was repeatedly pointed out but not corrected. Their Orchestra class is very poor as well. The teacher requires students to get private lessons. My child already knew the songs being taught in her 7th grade orchestra to perform them in concert as a 6 grader. (Teacher spends literally half of the class periods tuning her students' instruments.)?My child Knew how to tune her instrument from the 2nd wk of her 6 grade at the previous school, she wasn't allowed to at this one. Not until the 8 grade at this school. Save yourself the frustration and headaches and don't bother with Sequoyah! Terrible

My daughter started Sequoyah Middle School this year. So far she really loves it. She like the variety of classes and especially music. They have the 6th grade classes in a central area near the office so the kids aren't spread out and it gives them a chance to get used to being in a big school. So far we love Sequoyah and hope all the 6th graders are enjoying it as much.
