This school is O.K, It could be better the lunch Is not the best. We have a very amazing social studies teacher. The bullying is never taken care of and if you don't listen they will get very angry at you, also if you spell a word wrong once your grade goes from a B to a D. How you're treated by teachers can vary a lot some are very accepting others are not it's a coin toss which it'll be. A lot of problems tend to get put aside and victims can get consequences that are worse than the person who started it.

The teachers are very unfair to students and discriminate ones they dont favor. Students get write ups for literally almost anything.

This school is a true hidden gem. The class sizes are small and the teachers/staff truly care. There is amazing communication between families and staff. My kids have had struggles with health concerns, emotional struggles and speech delays. All their needs have been met and the support was beyond my expectations. Any bullying situations were quickly fixed. My children feel safe and supported here while enjoying their learning.

Not as good as it sounds. Good teachers but not a lot. Experienced racism multiple times at such an "accepting" school yea you'll be accepted if u have perfect grades and never make a mistake if u do you will be screamed at. Was practically punished when I stood up to the person who told me to go back to Africa "where I belong" and said the n word two times. And admitted to saying it in the past and I was punished for it. Broke my phone while THE SCHOOL HAD IT?!!! Oh yeah and ur not allowed to have and that's just dumb.

Principal doesnt care about any of the problems including the service of the food, the discrimination between students and teachers. The coordinators dont do anything to resolve issues

I would not recommend this school to anyone. The way the administration is ran, how some of these teachers have acted and how so much of it just gets brushed aside its absolutely horrible.

There a very few good teachers in the lower grades, but the bad outweigh the good by a lot. This school focuses on how they teach multiple languages, but go to the school yourself to see what any student that hasnt been raised with Turkish or Spanish as one of their primary languages has learned. My child has gotten straight As in both for 7 years now and can barely speak either. That shows how much theyre actually teaching at this school.

If a student struggles or has any issues with learning or social issues the school does nothing. Instead the teachers and staff take it upon themselves to down students instead. Not all, but it shouldnt be happening at all.

So many instances over the years, weve had to deal actual sexual harassment at a middle school and the principal barely took it seriously.

Many of the teachers have been wonderful. The teachers seem sad however, they don't smile often or initiate conversations.

The teachers struggle some with the students. They especially struggle with special needs children because this school doesn't have enough supports.

The school seriously lacks proper leadership. The Administration does not have educational backgrounds or any credential related to working with children when first hired. The administration does not follow typical procedures for emergencies, teacher/staff conflict, etc. Administration verbally abuses their teachers/staff causing high turnovers each school year. Many long time families have also left after not being able to resolve their situations. The administration will state that the children's safety and well-being is of their utmost importance, however we see differently as parents and know their agenda is hidden but it involves our public funds. Everything is handled with borderline legality, and the school faces numerous litigations each year from prior staff or families even currently attending YSWPCS.

ADMINISTRATION will make yoi fight for your child's services. They won't attend meetings, sign forms or properly participate in any of it. The teachers try hard to implement their goals,etc. but they need more support which has been denied.

I feel if you have a better option than choosing this school, do it. If you're okay with a bullying administration, by all means this is the school for you. This school seems like a dream until about 3rd grade. Then you'll wish you didn't waste your child's time here receiving a sub-par education in a Turkish promoting(ONLY) school.

My children were students there from kindergarten on. We had nothing but rave reviews until they started taking "problem" students in who were bullying and disruptive to my children's learning. After the third time my child was physically assaulted in school, and the third meeting that I had with administrators, we decided that it was time to move on and leave. The teachers, however, went above and beyond for every single student and there's not one bad thing to be said about them. The administration, on the other hand, is a whole other story.

I find it curious that many of these reviews were written on the same day. This school is a joke, due to the administration team. A guy goes from being the CEO, to the CEO/Principal, to the Assistant Principal and they still won't get rid of him. Take your child elsewhere. They all deserve better.

The school offers many opportunities for parents to get involved in their children's education. The new CEO listens and resolves issues immediately for us. I am grateful for his new approach to administering my son's major tests in a different setting.

Students play soccer at no cost to their families thanks to the YSWPCS Board.

Young Scholars joined the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL).
This will look good for the future of sports here at Young Scholars.
Joining WPIAL's will allow the school to play other schools in sports such as basketball, soccer and more. Also, with joining WPIAL, the students will have more opportunities to play schools in different areas, and make acquaintance with students at schools they might attend for high school.

I loved watching Young Scholars of Western Pennsylvania Charter School (YSWPCS) Robotics Team (TIGER BOT) win the first place in Western PA FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Grand Championship (Robot Game and Full Judging of Robot, Programming, Project and Core Values) at LaRoche College on January 13, 2018.
A spectacular achievement! Hard work, perseverance, and determination always pay.
They made Young Scholars community very proud.

The staff including administrators and teachers have a passionate care for the students. They care about their education and they want them to do well. The teachers are very engaged and they true to the multicultural approach which is wonderful.

I need to give praises to my children's teachers. All of them!! They are always a text away and even after school hours and on weekends they are prompt to respond. Clear, caring, helpful, and insightful. I'm impressed how much my youngest one has learn and is able to count to 100 in three different languages. I'm impress with the curriculum, how the school is family oriented, how much I can be involved with my kids activities at school, all the extra services i.e. clubs and Saturday activities. STEAM focus.

My children have been enrolled for 6 years, and we really enjoy the school. The study of international cultures has been enriching. and learning Spanish and Turkish gives them more understanding of the cultures and languages from around the world. Teachers are passionate, population is diverse, Curriculum is challenging yet not too much homework. And we love the small class sizes, probably the biggest reason we chose the school (20-22 kids per class).

I loved this school. The teacher made sure the parents were aware of all homework assignments and sent out daily text/app reminders. My daughter struggles with math and they recognized it right away, in the first month or two of school, and provided her with extra tutoring to get her grade up. At other school, I won't find out until semester grades came out that my daughter was having an issue. If I didn't have to move because of my job we would still be at this school. I loved Young Scholars!!!

My son started here when they opened and graduated last year. He was a gifted student when he started and they always did an amazing job pushing him to work to his potential. He had some slight behavior issues from the beginning, but being a strict school that was always attentive to his needs, by graduation, he was receiving recognition from the school as a positive role model for younger students. He is now in high school and doing great and I have no doubt he will be choosing his college rather than hoping for acceptance. My daughter started there in kindergarten and is now in second grade. I'm still very pleased with the school and can't imagine sending her anywhere else.

Although I am generally happy with the concept of the school, my child seems to be struggling quite a bit academically. When the option of after-school and Saturday tutoring became available, I was glad that the teachers recognized student's who needed additional help and were willing to work with them beyond school hours. What disappointed me quite a bit was when these tutoring sessions ended at the start of the PSSA's. It became pretty evident that these tutoring sessions were more or less in preparation for the PSSA's, and not necessarily for the student's personal academic growth. I realize that being a charter school, the results of standardized tests are very important for things such as funding, ect. I would have liked to have seen the tutoring continue throughout the rest of the year as my child could benefit from it greatly. **On a side note, I would like to be able to get in contact with the front desk with more ease. As of right now, there is a voicemail service, which is fine for other staff, but there should always be someone to answer the phone at the front desk. **

YSWPCS started out as a great concept. International emphasis teaching English, Spanish, Turkish, and American Sign Language. There was also a Gifted Program and many great after school activites to choose from. This year a new administration changed the options. There is much more tutoring help included for after school choices. There is no sports program, no Gifted Program and no ASL class. I am very disappointed in the change. Otherwise, my son and I love the school, the teachers, and the other students. Everyone gets along well and the teachers seem to genuinely care. I still give the school a great rating based on the education and staff.

My daughter started mid last year and she absolutely loves it. As a parent I think the friendliness of the staff, additional programs and standard of education beats any other school my daughter has been to in the past. She really enjoys this school and is constantly coming home with challenging work as well as a great attitude. In the past I felt her old schools did not challenge her enough and with the multiple language programs and a variety of after school activities to engage her I'm sure I made the right decision sending her there.

My daughter attends kindergarten at this school. Her teacher is very attentive and on top of her game. I'm more concerned about the attention and communication between the student and the teacher rather then the curriculum given to a five year old. However, the curriculum is amazing. I like the fact that they actually teach two different languages to the kindergarten students especially since in many other schools they don't start them on foreign languages until late in the middle school or beginning of high school. I also love the fact that I could sign up my daughter for golf and math and make school more fun for her. They also have dancing, piano, robotics, etc. The involvement with teachers, principals and parents is definitely there too. I highly recommend this school. The only thing I wish is that the school would be a tad bigger, other then that it's a great educaitonal facility.

Excellent teachers that really get to know the children as individuals. My sons have enjoyed this school so much more than their last school which had larger classrooms and less tolerance for individuality. Love that the students have the opportunity to learn 2 foreign languages, including Spanish! Also love that my kids get to go to school with kids from a variety of ethnic and religious backgrounds. Teachers are great about keeping parents informed of student progress.

Enthusiatic teachers and administrators that really try to get each child learning to theri fullest potential. They meet with the parents often to learn about the child's needs and outcomes. Small class size, physical and well as intellectual afterschool programs, healtly, tasty lunches available.

We are so pleased with YSWPCS. We had our reservations due to it being a new school. We were rapidly put at ease by the quality and attentiveness of the teachers and staff. Previous to joining Young Scholars our son was not content with school. Now he loves going to school so much that he wants to participate in the Extended Day Program every day. We are also put at ease in the knowledge that our son will be at the same school through 8th grade.

Young Scholars is a great school. We love the many wonderful programs and opportunities offered to the children. The small classroom size is priceless. We feel that our entire family is part of the school. All the teachers and administrators know even our younger children and welcome them by name every time we are there. There are lots of opportunities for parental and family involvement which helps to create a feeling of community. Excellent school!

Young Scholar's is a fanstastic institution, that offers an array of programs and curriculum, that readies the students for a lifetime of acheivement. They offer wonderful after school programs and the language courses, that are required, give the children a leg up in life to be productive in a global capacity. The teachers are stupendous and definitely strive towards the excellence of the students' education and success in life.

We absolutely love this school! Our daughter has enjoyed every subject and didn't even want to go on summer break because she loves school that much! The entire school is like one big family, everyone looks out for each other! Our little boy won't be starting kindergarten for another year and he is already excited to start at Young Scholars!
