This school offers zero electives for students out side of Chorus and Band. Their Tech Ed- is wood shop. We transferred here halfway through my child's 8th grade school year. Hopewell is working on what my son was learning in his first quarter at his old school. He was taking spanish, its not offered here. He was taking Technology Education, Hopewell does not offer that either, there version is wood shop. His previous school, they used I-pads and used modern programs like Google Docs to turn in their homework, here they do not offer that. Hopewell School District has the highest tax rate in the county, and the milleage rate was 3 times higher of his previous school, yet the school offers NOTHING. This school is dragging our kids down and keeping them from achieving the same education of those students in competitive districts. We have been here a month and are ready to move to get our child a better education.

Most of the teachers my child has had have been great. The principal and vice principal work very hard to handle issues as they arise and they always take the time to get back to parents about concerns. They have absolutely wonderful programs to help out in the community including toy drives and food drives that directly benefit families in the school district. Hands on learning is a priority especially with the new STEAM based programs and wonderful things are about to happen. This school is helping to create very well rounded individuals

The bullying at this school is completely unacceptable. My daughter was a victim of brutal bullies, girls and boys, and when she retaliated because nothing was done by the teachers or school, she got in trouble. No one cares at this school about bullying. I put my child in another school and this year she is happy, adjusted, and doing very well. The blame starts at the top with the Superintendent who was unaffected by my concerns.

After having many bad experiences with the elementary schools in this district we left. My daughter went to the Jr. High for one year and it was enough. The bulling here is outlandish! And the amount of staff involvement with this problem is unrecognizable. My daughter was bullied by another child for almost the whole year. After talking with the staff a couple times with no actions being taken. I told them I was going to show up with the police if it didn't stop. The child that was bulling my child had a obvious home problem with Dad being drunk constantly. I even saw him show up to a school function screaming at another parent. But none of the staff helped this child. It was sad to say the least! But bulling doesn't stop with the children, the principal once called my child a dummy in front of other staff. When I went in to confront him, he told me that he will no longer joke around with my child... I told him he shouldn't talk like that to any child. I left basically with the feeling that we agreed to disagree with what is proper way to talk to young kids. We moved after that year, and she tells me all the time that she is very happy we did.

Unless you are a Teacher or employed within the school system, Hopewell Area School does NOT care about your child. The staff shows extreme favoritism towards particular students. My child is a High Distinguished Honor Roll Student and a member of Student Council, NJHS, and Class Club and is DISCRIMINATED against when it comes to field trips and particular functions, they always find a way to tell her she is not permitted to attend, however, teachers children and children whom are not involved in the clubs are permitted to attend??? I suppose this is because she is the only African American / Caucasian member! However they are proud to use her for fundraising and volunteering her time to help CLEAN! If you are white and considered high class, you may be okay! I give this school NO STARS!!
