Methacton and especially Arcola are great for a certain type of student. If you are college prep and self driven the school is fine. If you need any kind of assistance the school will do everything possible to delay and start giving the student the assistance that is required by state of PA.

In This School, Arcola intermediate, it looks like a nice safe community when really there are people taking soap dispensers, substitute chaos, bullying and fighting in hallways, school threats, and much more. I would not recommend this school. Depending on the teacher you get it can be horrible or very nice. Homework can be a pain but it can also pile up on people and make them fall behind. Kids in this environment especially people who are Mixed, Black, Hispanic, or LGBTQIA+ need to feel accepted when really you have people calling them names for things they bring, what they like, and/or dress.

Can not adequately express how dissappointed we are in this school. Punished my child for reporting bullying. Caused us to leave the school. Talked to many parents with same experience.

Teachers do not take a learning process to homework.

Teachers cater to PSSA tests and not concern about learning. Also, too much focus on poor students and average and good students get lost.

School encourages bullying and actively promotes it by doing everything they can to discourage reporting and enforcing.

Not enough focus on good and average students!

Principle, VP and counselor encourage bullying especially with girls. Encourage not to report and students are bullied by administrators when they do report.no consequences to bullies.

Teachers attempt to control bullying and make sure everyone has a "good character". This doesn't really work as many students are disrespectful to teachers and classmates.

School is not diverse and my child experienced a lot of negativity and bullying. The middle school science teacher did not respect my child's religious beliefs and the school is mainly concerned with appearance and sports do not send your child here. Most of the students are ignorant to other cultures and it shows.

We have been disappointed in what is not taught in the classroom but what the student needs to "self-teach" at home at night. Be prepared to be very involved in supporting the average 7-8th grade student in their learning. This is unfortunate for any child that does not have college educated parents at their disposal or isn't naturally gifted. There are a variety of extracurricular opportunities (sports, theater, music) which are good. Except for basic music class, music programs require students to be pulled out of core classes (math, science etc.) which I think is not appropriate. There are certainly ways to get band, chorus and orchestra worked into the schedule without students missing core class time. I believe that the administration protects themselves and the teacher rather than keeping students safe from inappropriate teacher behavior, bullying etc. The school is not doing enough to address and educate students and teachers about bullying behavior. Like most public schools these days, there is an excessive focus on standardized test scores and rubric oriented assignments which do a disservice to creative thinking and learning. Overall I wouldn't rave about the school or school district to those moving to the area it is about average.

Do not send your child to this school! The 2014-15 Principal, Mrs. Page uses a punitive philosophy (think "Breakfast Club") that creates "problem" students instead of inspiring students to reach their potential. I've been surprised by the lack of leadership and understanding of the students in her care. The 1/2 star rating is for the caring and capable teachers who have to work in a system that is broken. This school did not prepare my eldest child for high school and has impacted my youngest child's self-esteem. The opposite should be happening for the high school taxes we pay. It breaks my heart as a former teacher that students aren't seen, they are test scores, parents aren't partners they are potential law-suits and good teachers can't teach in the current climate. Great minds are being thrown away here. Spend your money on another school option. I regret that I sent my kids here and now they aren't prepared to go elsewhere. My kids went backward instead of forward within the two years that they attended Arcola.
