We have two children enrolled in the middle school. They have attended since second grade. My children have not had any problems with bullying. The teachers are fantastic. When one of my kids needs extra help, their teachers are always willing to support, encourage and review material. Both of my children are thriving and we are very thankful for the staff at South Fayette.

We came from a school that pushed leadership but never backed it up. This school always finds ways to incorporate
Good leadership strategies in every aspect.

They have the teachers and suppprt clases to help the kids who need it. Also offer free testing, IEP's etc.

I am not sure how they deal with it. But I know it hardly exists. My kids say they've never been bullied since moving here. But I read else where 1 student was bullied. That's the only time I've heard of it.
I know they push ...how to treat others in daily learning. So maybe bc there are many ways they throw it in to everyday learning it is helping our kids to evolve in to better human beings than what pur generation experienced growing up.

Depends on the teacher. Some give chances to make up for full credit, half credit and sone hold the kids to the word of due this day....if not done and child was present...sorry no breaks, As it shoukd be.
They also are usually given time in class to start homework. If your kid claims they dont give chances to start homework....then they probably use this time to talk to kids rather than do work. As I found this out 3 months into the school yr....kids stretch the truth.

Between the many clubs, arts, music, athletics , anti-bullying and discipline categories....kids here are just awesome. I never hear bullying. They are bright happy kids. Manners are used. Well rounded kids. Don't know how they are once they hit highschool but 4th graders to 8th graders werr pretty decent kids.

Pretty excellent. There are a lot of things this school offers that other middle schools don't. Especially pre AP classes for 8th graders.
90% or higher are on the honor roll every marking period.
My only worry is since the middle school is so great at 9/10 what will happen when they get to the high school since it is rated lower instead of the same or higher?

My overall experience at this school was fantastic. I always got high marks because of the kind, patient teachers and was never left in the dust. Plenty of extra-curricular activities to participate in, including sports, art, drama, coding, and more. Students can truly let their personalities and creativity run wild in these activities. Students looking for a challenge can take an exam in 7th grade to see wether or not they are qualified for a special 8th grade AP. This is done specifically to prepare the students for AP in high school and better improve on the studied skill. On the other hand, students who have trouble understating the curriculum have nothing to fear. Tutoring for almost every class is held before, during, and after school hours. This allows the students behind the rest to catch up and improve their grades. Furthermore, this school is in a safe area and has never been put into a serious lockdown in the many years I’ve been here. Safety guards and cops are often seen walking the length of the building, prepared to deal with any threats that may arise. Would definitely recommend this school for anyone who wants to challenge their child but keep an easygoing routine that helps develop important life skills for their future adulthood.

While other core teachers provide homework on lessons the student has already learned, certain math classes seem to be lacking in this skill set. For many lessons, you are expected to learn the procedures and vocabulary by yourself and proceed to do pages and pages of homework the second you get home. This increases stress levels, which can cause you to preform worse on an examen, despite studying, than if you were calm. I’m not saying this applies to all teachers, nor I am saying it is wrong to make the student learn without an instructor, but I believe they should be given optional study worksheets. This would challenge the student in a way he/she is comfortable with and allow them to show their true skills. If the student fails to study for a test, it won’t be the teacher’s fault, yet the student’s. The bad marks afterwards will persuade the student to study without the stress of constant due dates piling up in their head. Once again, I believe this school has a fantastic homework routine and even provides online boards the students can check when they get home incase they forgot something. Overall, this is a great school with interactive, hands-on learning that builds strong character and a sharp mind. Just providing an opinion on one small blemish that is barely visible on this wonderful school.

Teachers are incredibly kind, understanding, and helpful. As long as you have an agreeable personality and don’t disrupt their classes, you won’t have any issues.

Every morning, when the announcements begin, the person giving the speech almost always has a famous quote or expression to help students get past the stress of school and inspire them to become better versions of themselves. Depressed or stressed kids are always helped to the best of the staff’s ability. Bullying is talked over quite a lot as well, and I have rarely seen it happen in this school.

This school always encourages students to be strong leaders and help guide those who need help. Nobody gets left in the dust and everyone is included. In addition, nearly all students listen to their instructors, principal, and vice-principal without hesitation and are good with rules. Obviously, talking is still an issue. But honestly, where isn’t it?

While I am not a disabled student myself, I can tell you we are encouraged to include LD kids within our groups and not to treat them differently. From what I’ve seen, they are taken great care of and always have a consular or staff member to talk with. When kids prone to sensory-overloads snap, the teachers are very calm and kind to the children, even wherever they are trying to resist help. Overall, LD kids are treated equally along with the rest of us.

Bullying is taken very seriously at this school, and the punishments are strict. The school also has cameras in all the halls and classrooms, so they can get and effective overview of a situation to properly help the bullied student.

Getting really annoyed...5 weeks into 7th grade & my child has not had 1 weekday without 4-6 hours of homework - no kidding. This is a straight A's student that takes studies seriously, but this is ridiculous. Math teacher doesn't teach the lesson - has them watch power points, take notes & go to connected.mcgraw-hill.com and watch the personal tutor, then gives 40-60 problems each night for homework! History class has had 2 papers, 1 project, 3 tests, 4 quizzes and more. Add Language Arts & foreign language classes and the work load is unreal. This is not the case for all students in the 7th grade. It appears the class has been divided and work loads for others are dramatically less-read "very little homework" and lighter class load. My child does not mind being challenged but this is not "honors" or "AP" and they should NOT be expected to do 4-6 hours of homework every night, after spending 7 hours in school! If it keeps up, we will be looking at cyber school - especially since math class is "teach yourself" anyway!

I disagree with a lot of these people. South Fayette is always pushing their kids to do the best they can. They focus on art athletics and academics which is what any parent I looking for. They have teachers who are more like friends and can be an inspiration. They also have really high PSSA scores. They treat everyone equally whether you are on a sports team or in the drama club. They also provide many different clubs in the school. Upper saint Clair may be known as a good school but in reality they have some of the worst kids. Some of the kids smoke and one of the girls is pregnant. The only reason I know all of this is because my child went to upper saint Clair before I found out what kind of kids are there and we moved to south Fayette. I would recommend your kids go to south Fayette instead of spoiling your child by making them go to upper saint Clair which has the most discussing children.

There are many good things about the school and a few bad. The worst is that some genius decided Aug 21st would be a great day for kids to go back to school. Really?

A PA Blue Ribbon School. New principals in past couple of years have brought new ideas and new energy into an already strong school. My kids excelled here and still return to see their teachers. A strong base provided for them to move on to the rigorous education provided at the SF High School.
