The community of South Fayette is a great and very well communicated with each other. Inside the classrooms, teachers are very great at engaging with students along with all the other faculty.

If your child is a straight and arrow, zero maintenance type or a super athlete they will be fine here. If your child needs a bit of a nudge or has a bit of challenges the teaching and administrative staff are all too happy to have them flounder rather than work with them to succeed. They haven’t quite figured out how to maximize each child’s potential such as other more highly regarded school districts in this region and quite a bit of the staff lacks the experience to do so. College placement is weaker than neighboring communities of Upper St Clair and Mt Lebanon with fewer students gaining acceptance at higher rated colleges.

I have two children in this school district and South Fayette has surpassed my expectations by leaps and bounds. The teachers and administration are compassionate and willing to work with the students needs academically, physically and emotionally. Although communication tapers off at the high school level, I am always able to contact a teacher or administrator if needed. My daughter recently was struggling in an honors class because she did not understand the teaching methods of the teacher. I urged her reach out to him and discuss her concerns. The teacher responded immediately by acknowledging her concerns and admitting that there are better/additional ways that he could be teaching and communicating with the class. He also agreed to tutor her in any areas where she was struggling. The interaction was extremely positive and my daughter was quickly able to bring up her grade in the class. This is only one of the many positive interactions that sets SF apart from other school districts in my opinion.

They've recently instituted an inane rule that if the child is absent more than ten days, they don't get credit for any missed assignments unless they have a doctor's excuse. What is that going to do, make them unabsent? Most parents can't run off to the doctor for every absence. The only thing they're accomplishing by this is to cause trouble, expense and lower grades for kids with sleep problems, chronic illnesses and disbilities. I'm not sure this is even legal. They're playing fast and loose with Title IX. And speaking of disabilities, they're building a school far, far away from their main campus to house all the kids with disabilities so they don't have to ruin their image.

I used to attend South Fayette High School, but due to my horrible experience here, I chose to transfer to the much better Mt. Lebanon High School. The teachers here tend to either not be good at teaching or they are mean to kids. Out of my years at this school (4-9), I only had about 2 teachers that were both good at teaching and nice to their students. Not to mention, the rules and regulations are outrageous. Yes, it is important to have rules for safety reasons, but the majority of the rules in the handbook are used to oppress students such as not allowing a student to transfer out of a class, unless they are failing.. However, if the class was too easy, like one was for me, they won't let you move up and try to challenge yourself. And at the high school, a system called Arena Scheduling (a system for signing up for classes for the following school year) can mess up a student's academic schedule, which is what happened with me. Out of eight of the classes I planned on taking my sophomore year, I was only able to be in one of them due to arena scheduling. If you ask me, it is only in place due to laziness of the counselor. Do your child a favor, don't send them to South Fayette.

This school's principal had a bullied special needs student arrested for recording a bullying incident. I would never send my kids to a school like this, where the principal is the biggest bully of all.

The principal of this school called the police on the VICTIM of bullying and the kid was charged with disorderly conduct. He got in trouble for reporting the bullying. Bullies received no punishment as far as anyone can see. Most certainly they didn't have the police come intimidate them. What kind of environment are we providing for the kids?

Is this the school that is being sued because a child with learning disabilities is being constantly bullied and he uses his ipad to record his tormenters and gets in trouble? That is messed up and downgrades the school to zero stars. Any school that rewards a bully and blames the victim needs a public shaming and major overhaul.

Have found the administration to be robotic at enforcing inane rules that punish the kids for no reason. There are students of the month and they're ALWAYS the same kids. The parents are in competiton to see who can be the top room mothers and their kids are the favorites. If you're not a jock who was ready for the big leagues by the age of 5 you have no chance. Why on earth would they start school on August 21st? I'm sure if they put their thinking caps on, they could come up with a way that high schoolers don't have to catch their buses at 6:30 AM but maybe they're too busy looking good to think of things like that. Generally its an OK school but the principals are meatheads.

Excellent school district elementary to middle to high school! Great teachers who are involved and like to teach. Storng leadership from the principals. Excellent opportunities for advanced learning and each student is enouraged to try their very hardest. The coursework can be demanding, but the kids push themselves and each other. SF focuses on the academics, arts and athletics equally. Where other school districts are cutting the arts and athletics, as well as AP opportunities, SF is a strong supporter of each of these. TRADITION, PRIDE AND EXCELLECE do matter at SF, and it shows!

I am a current student at South Fayette High School and i've realized everything the first person said. I love my school don't get me wrong, but when teachers CANNOT afford books but they're building a NEW k-2 building, there's something wrong. Another point of concern, is the high school only pay attention to the students with High GPA's or Low GPA's, no one in the middle. They push us to do well in academics and athlelics that if you aren't good in those two areas, you don't get paid attention to PERIOD. The majority of the teachers are GREAT, however there are a few that aren't liked, but thats every high school, you can tell what teachers care and what ones don't. Overall, if you have a child that is a shining star in academics or athleltics, this is the school where they'll get recongized. Other than that, it's really not worth the time.
