I was a special education teacher for a short period of time. In my brief experience, I had several good students; however, there were some very troublesome ones. I felt as though I was not supported when these students undermined the teaching and the learning in the classroom. I one respect that involved a student who was being disrespectful, the administration handled the situation very poorly; in a school in which there was a union or even due process, this situation would have resulted in a grievance.

Is School Lane Charter School perfect? No, it is not; but what school is? School Lane offers a different experience than a district public school or private school. It is not for everyone. The school day is longer, meaning the teachers work a longer day than teachers at other schools. This is in addition to the additional hours all teachers work outside of school hours planning and grading assignments. Many teachers do not have extra time to devote to after school activities due to family and other personal commitments.

Sports? There are sports - soccer, track & field, basketball. There isn't a football or baseball team, but it's a small school. School Lane does not promote itself as a sports powerhouse. There is nothing wrong with that. If you want to play sports - stay at the district school or go to a private school.

Bullying? While I'm sure there are some instances, most of the "bullying" incidents don't really fall into that category. It's kids being mean.

I find that you get out of school what you put into it, just like with anything else in life. If a student transfers to another school and isn't prepared, I believe that the student and parents must take some responsibility.

The school has changed so much in a sad way. Prior to the Principal now the one that they just go was the was the worst decision. The school over looms at bully situations. School administrators. Asking assumptions on children's well being and directly calling state services vs finding out the true story and not contacting the family in the regards. Sad to say how SLCS has gone downhill. The communication from all the staff had declined as well.

The administration at this school is far removed from the realities of how teaching in a classroom has changed over time. The administration is concerned about looking good but not actually giving their students a well rounded education. The administration wants all of their teachers to teach from the same mold versus each classroom being a new and unique experience for the students. It seems the main priority is ensuring each child leaves as the next cog in the machine and not as a free-thinking, well rounded individual. The kids are disciplined for far too many reasons, one of course just being a teenager, and potentially speaking out of turn but without ill-intent. There has to be an ability to see reason from these administrators but when you're more like dictators reason does not factor into anything. The cell phone policy is out of control, with administrators essentially calling students liars if they can't produce a cell phone to turn in. It has become less of a learning environment and more of a detention center with some learning thrown in. Many students complain that they want to return to their public schools because School Lane Charter is "the worst school ever." The things that should be enjoyed such as music, art, and sports are not high priorities to the administrators and the kids do not have opportunities to expand their horizons creatively. There are many facades put on by this school in the name of IB education when in fact I'd refer to it more as a snake oil education. If you value your child's education, along with mental health, creative expression and after-school activities I'd steer clear of School Lane Charter and I would remain in your local public school or look elsewhere. This school will not meet your needs and the demoralized teachers, as much as they try, have their hands tied by the whims of poorly managed administrators. It's a shame as there were high hopes for this school for the students, faculty and community. Unfortunately, this school is not winning any awards and I'd be surprised if they can hire anyone else worth their salt once the word continues to get out as to how terrible you are treated and how little autonomy you have over your own classroom.

This school has gone down hill big time!! The victim of serious bullying and sexual harrassment are silenced and expelled while the aggressor remains at school. I'm very disappointed I this school.

This school lacks extracurricular activities, do not hold high standards for education, and refuse to work with parents on issues that parents are concerned about. The grading system is very flawed. With a change of school, we realized School Lane did not adequately prepare our children for their grade level. When an extra course was offered free of charge to help my daughters reading level, they pushed her along / said she read at a 3rd grade level which she clearly wasn’t. The counselor that all children like pries into the children’s family life and calls the children his friend.

We received a phone call that a student tied my daughter to a tree during recess - she had marks on her arm and neck. Where was the supervision?

During Covid, if our children didn’t attend a Google Meets session, we didn’t know about it for 2 weeks when we were sent threatening letters about Truency.

The IB campus is worse. One of the PT conferences, I couldn’t find classroom. Teachers in the area didn’t even know where the classroom was. Students are not held accountable for misuse of chromebook during class. Administration ignores emails of concern.

School Lane Charter School was the biggest mistake our family made. Its "international baccalaureate" certification is junk science. College counselors have done little to hide their disdain for the snake oil program although they do pity parents who have been tricked into forgoing AP classes for their kids.
And the fact the high school has no sports is another joke.
Do a little research and you'll see how much their budget is. Where does the money go since they are not spending any on sports and extras?
Ah, search again for the school leaders' salaries, and you shall learn.
The handling of covid was a nightmare as the school CEO was SO uncommunicative, and when they did speak, it was talking down at parents like we are a nuisance in the way of having a good day.
I can't say enough how much we regret enrollment at this school.

I say neutral because there isn't an across the board approach to students who have special emotional needs. Some teachers are patient while others are hasty and easily frustrated.

My childs IEP wasn't properly implemented. Recommendations that were not going to be helpful were put in record. Our intelligent but emotionally needy child learned very little. Focus was on controlling the behavior instead of educating the children.

Does not have useful course load/work for their students. IB program is used to seem nice but in reality does not prepare students well and does not apply to college credit nearly as well as the AP program does.

The school has really gone downhill. I have known many people to withdraw their children because of all the problems in the school. The principal is awful. I witnessed him scream in a Mother’s face during pick up time at the end of the day simply because she walked across the wrong way to pick up her child. Literally screamed in her face in front of all the other parents and students. I was so shocked. Don’t waste your time with this school.

They don’t give homework which I think is ridiculous. Homework is designed to give the kids a way to practice what they’ve learned on their own to see what they have retained in the classroom. How are Parents supposed to know the areas our children are having trouble in if we don’t even know what they are learning day to day? The communication with the school is awful

The teachers don’t even seem to care. The school’s policy is to only address the students if they do something wrong and they are not allowed to praise students and give awards for doing something right. Some children need that positive reinforcement.

as growing as homework is, not having any does not let the parents see where their child is weak or strong. We have to depend on the teachers to reach out, which does not seem to happen.

In the classroom setting the teachers seem to get along with, control and able to make learning fun for the students. however, they lack in communication with the parents and depend on the children to do so for them...very ineffective

i had a child who was being bullied, and it did not stop until I contacted the police. the administration at this school, did not seem to follow their own guidelines in the policy book.

I am currently looking to move. The curriculum is wonderful, but not worth the lack of support from the administers, and the impossible to get in touch with board. I would not recommend this school

They try to, but because the students are not able to fulfill themselves in school, they do so in other environments where they learn to behave.

They are just teaching useless skills though projects, which do not allow students to gain knowledge. Cannot provide opportunities for students to pursue their interest in the school itself.

We are not given any sort of trust what so ever. Students who learn fast thrive to learn, but School Lane has a no competition policy meaning that they can not separate us into classes that will benefit the student. The inexperienced teachers can teach whatever they want, no need of a textbook. Textbook are important as they guide students. There are kids in my class who are struggling with putting verbs properly in future tense, while I am sitting there learning what I learned all the way back in first grade. My son has been attending SLCS since kindergarten and he is now in 8th grade. We are very happy with the school, the staff, and the teachers. He is receiving a great education and loves going to school. There was one instance back in 5th grade where he was bullied by a classmate, but I spoke to the teacher and she promptly took care of it. We are very happy with this school

It's a very educational place. there is bullying but that happens in every school no matter what. Every students learns advanced things nd there is no ap classes so everyone learns everything. It is pretty strict nd I have been here since kindergarten me nd my parents love it. The teachers care and it's a good school. I hope others will enjoy as much as I do.

With the turnover in staff it has become less a learning environment and more a playground with big bullies. The young teachers are inexperienced and it shows! The older yeachers seem tired. I have witnessed first hand thw bullying of bigger kids to smaller kids.

We are new to the school and it has been nothing but a great transition. I called over the summer months with questions and had quick responses. I am very impressed & nothing impresses me more than to see happy kids at the end of a school day!

I was very disappointed in the counseling that my son received from the school guidance counselor in dealing with a problem. He was basically told to "deal with it". I found this to be very callous and unprofessional.

I recently went on a tour of School Lane Charter School. I was very pleased,excited and impressed. Pleased because the staff was very welcoming and friendly. Excited because the child in my life will be attending this school and impressed because of all of the academic, technical and physical classes that are offered to the students. I can't wait to see what my child can learn and achieve in this atmosphere.

This is my son's first year at School Lane and it is just amazing!!! We are so proud of his achievements academically and socially. He has transformed into a kid that dreaded going to school and is now the kid that looks forward to being there! The faculty and staff is so caring and they work so hard in the car line every morning to make sure your child safely enters the building and that means so much considering that tragic events that have unfortunately occured within our schools. A special thanks to Mrs. Krause for making third grade so great! You are an exceptional teacher and my son speaks highly of you. Highest recommendations for School Lane Charter School.
