Pine Run El School

We have had an outstanding experience at Pine Run. I have two children who are very different from one another. Still their needs have been met through differentiated instruction by every teacher they've had. They also constantly come home with stories of creative experiences the teachers have developed for them. The teachers are warm and caring and make your child feel like they are special. As a teacher at another school, I consistently am impressed by all Pine Run is able to accomplish each day.

Pine run really is a great place to grow! I actually went here as a kid! Now I have two girls that go here as well. Love the teachers so far and my first grader's teacher even sends pics of the kids doing activities in her weekly email update. My oldest was struggling with a school subject and was given one on one support from an aide and it made such a difference. The school does a lot of 'family fun nights' and many people who aren't in the school have made comments about how many activities the school has.

Pine Run ES is an excellent place for kids and parents alike. Teachers and the admin staff involves parents, and treats them with a high degree of respect and empathy. I have 3 boys that attended, they have each received terrific attention to their social and academic needs. The open classroom design is unique, but more an asset than a drawback, it encourages social recognition of manners and behavior. I could go on and on, but enough to say this is a rewarding school experience that has introduced us as a family to community involvement.

Our two children went to Pine Run Elementary. I got a call from the school one day to come to the school to talk about my older son. They detected a speech impediment and wanted to bring in a specialist once a week for speech therapy. I couldn't believe it. I had not even heard the impediment in my son's speech it was so slight! But the school picked it up and were all about addressing it. On another occasion my son's gifted teacher advised me to get my younger son tested for the gifted program. She said that there are several types of gifted and my second son was very unusual. He fit the criteria for exceptionally creative and gifted children that schools don't often see. Sure enough he tested well and was placed in the gifted program. We were so pleased with the personal attention paid to our children. They also received an excellent education. We volunteered in the classroom when our kids were in the open classrooms. We saw no problem with the set-up and , frankly, never thought about it. The classrooms didn't strike us as all the "open." There were barriers between the classrooms. Our kids never once complained about it.

I have two children enrolled at Pine Run. They have had such wonderful teachers thus far. The principal is wonderful. She is always smiling and very encouraging to the kids. The open classroom has not been an issue for us. The grades are separate but have a common room that they share. It is quiet and runs very smoothly. We love Pine Run Owls!

I have been very impressed since we moved into the school district with the learning curriculum for Pine Run Elementary. Their prinicpal Amanda Mumford is very dedicated to the education of her students and really understands the kids. Her work is evident when you come into the school when it comes to each child and their learning plan. I have also been very impressed by the caliber of teachers thus far. They have been patient and thoughtful about my son's needs and I feel that he is thriving in his school environment, both academically as well as socially. I am also impressed about the families and parent involvment that I have seen as well. It is tough to get a volunteer spot since so many parents are interested in signing up!

The principal seems too concerned with appearances and not at all for the children or building a relationship with the parents. The open classroom DOES NOT work for many children, especially if they are coming from another school that is closed (as most are). If you have no idea what "open classroom" means, as I did not... It means there are no walls, just book case type things separating the classes. So you hear what is going on in every other class all at the same time. There are also no hallways within the blocks, so people are walking through to get to and from the other classrooms during lessons making it very hard to pay attention. I have a tough time not watching folks walk by during conferences and whatnot and I'm an adult. You can imagine how hard it is for a child. I must also say the teachers have been great! I'm sure they must have a tough time teaching there at times and most likely have to deal with a bit more than they would at a closed classroom school.

My child is about to enter second grade, so I can't speak with more than two years of experience. But I can compare her education and the school to my own experiences. Pine Run is fantastic, it is like a private school. The teachers my daughter has had have put 200% of themselves into the children. They are involved in every aspect of the child's education and are caring, beyond competent, creative, and more. I just can't say enough about this school. The "open classroom" isn't a big deal...there are walls, just no ceilings...the grades do a lot of stuff together as a grade so the children get to know everyone in the entire grade. My child is pretty advanced academically, and she thrives in the Pine Run environment. And her behavior there is perfect, she totally conforms (not at home!) and I credit that to the teachers. I think the principal is awesome, I don't know why so many people call her phoney. Honestly, I think people resent her because she's a beautiful, strong woman. If I could rate Pine Run 100/100, I would!

I was only in Pine Run for three years and I absolutely hated it, the teachers and principal care more about the schools public appearance than the actual education of the students, I'm glad I'm not at Pine Run anymore!!!

Beware, Open Classroom setting (only school in the district!)---fine for many kids, but not for all! The school is small and the education is excellent!
