I have talked to others with children going to public locations and the amount of kids over passes what the discipline and having to keep kids in the regular classroom activities in learning is very hard.my son has learned to read very quickly by the one on one skills learning by pronunciations the school is awesome in all ways of learning.

We started with this school in 2012 and were here for 12 years. My daughters graduated in 2020 and 2024, both graduating early (combined 11/12 grade). The teachers are excellent. Just like any school, parent involvement is essential. This is a great choice if your brick and mortar school isnt a good fit for you.

It has been one of the worst online school's I've seen, here is why: The school expects you to have a routine of "waking up at 7:00-7:15 , splashing your face with cold water, and sitting on your desks" this was said by a teacher to a 3RD grader which is just nonsensical. I would also like to add a few more points like how if you don't log into school by 8:10 you get an absence??? Which is especially insane for 1st graders and the school is just too strict in the worst ways, I'd also like to add how the activities are arranged, there is ixl, black board, Google slides, notebooks, activity books, and that is all spread out and they expect us to be able to complete those, check our emails and the students (like 15 a day), and be on top of everything, incredibly insane let me tell you. Oh I would also like to add how on the 1st day from being back from break they had launched a project at us with a 3-day time length.

Our experience with this school was terrible from the beginning to the end. After giving it our best for two full school years, we finally decided to switch to another charter school. The curriculum was spread across many different platforms, and as a result, students were expected to log in to many different websites every day with no clear schedule given for students in the ASYNC program. The school did not do a good job of managing student attendance, and I had to correct their mistakes almost every week. Despite my hopes that they would become more organized and professional, it never happened. The field trips were all terrible. At each event we attended for the school, there was absolutely no one in charge or giving any kind of direction. Only a few kids ever attended, and it was mostly all staff from the school just standing around talking. The PSSA testing was disorderly, to say the least. They did not follow any of their own proclaimed safety guidelines for picking up/dropping off students at testing locations. Both of my students participated in the full time ASYNC program. The program says "work at your own pace," but that is not entirely true. If your child works ahead, they won't provide any material for students who master and complete courses faster than they want you to. As a result, you will have to ask their teachers for schoolwork every day, just so your child can meet the daily attendance requirements. Even after reaching out to everyone I could at the school, looking for remediation, they offered no solutions other than "keep doing what we are doing." They allow no room for growth for students who are self-motivated and excited to learn. They put a cap on students who want to excel and learn more. I would NOT recommend this school and warn against enrolling your children here.

My family has been with PA Virtual since 2003. This will be our final year because my last child is graduating. We have been a part of many changes over the years but one core thing stayed the same, giving our kids the best education that was tailored to the individual child, finding the gaps and filling them, and encouraging them as they secede. Teachers were always more than just that. They were there at outings. Kids bonded with certain ones that they knew from elementary/middle that always seemed to know how they were doing as they aged. Teachers here really care about the kids and families. Administrators treat parents with respect and part of the educational family. We are all involved in educating our children here. It is a group effort. It takes a village attitude, that I love so much.

Hello, we only attended one orientation session which they have all 5 days the first week and chose not to start with them. The orientation and orientation staff are terrible, disorganized and silly to say the least. Please be aware once you attend one session they keep sending you email and text messages for high school student like they are elementary school, very strange school, definitely not effective. Also they flat out saying no self pace at all during answer session. Parent for high school student

PA Virtual is an excellent Virtual School. My son has always been in a brick and mortal school. We were kind of skeptical about switching to a virtual setting. We are so glad we decided to give it a try. The teachers are very focused, committed and patient with the students. I like how they have the students interact during the lessons by talking on their microphone or chat. The whole platform of this school is excellent. They provide the laptop, printer and books if needed. They have an excellent IT department should you have issues with your laptop or any of the website that the school uses. They can do everything a brick and mortal school can do. This school has great pride and community. They even have opportunities for parents to participate on many activities. I would rate this school a 10 plus. My son didn't do well in a brick and mortal school his grades were C's and D's. Now he's grades are mostly A's and B's one C. I would definitely recommend PA Virtual for anyone who is look for a good Virtual school that has a great community, caring teachers and excellent curriculum. We are very happy Parents!!!!

I have in fact recommended to two other families, one of whose children have graduated and they continue to thank me for that opportunity. Students need to really work hard and parents need to help them if they want to be successful at PAVCS. There are ample opportunities for children to succeed if they are willing to use the k12 curriculum which is complex and advanced. The teachers are wonderful and so are the family support coordinators. My son who is now doing postgraduate school has come back and spoken at the school and he still loves the fact that he went there. Your experience is what you make of it. I think PAVCS has done a great job over the years not being stagnant and continuing to move forward, making changes based on needs.

We are so pleased we chose PAVCS for our child's school! Especially during the pandemic when kids have had their academic life disrupted; PA Virtual has been a constant for us. Our child is more advanced than their friend's who attend a brick and mortar. The curriculum is adjustable for their needs and our schedule. If we feel that something is too difficult we can adjust how we're teaching or ask for additional support. As well as the flip side, if we are excelling and it's too easy we can move past a lesson to challenge our child further. I can't say enough good things about this school! The tools and support for the parents/guardians is astronomical. There hasn't been a day where I haven't been able to navigate through a question I may have and can always reach out to the appropriate people if I can't figure something out myself. Our teachers are amazing and so incredibly patient with their students. There are activities that keep the kids engaged, even from a distance.

Teachers are either a hit or miss I find. They are either AMAZING teachers with a great and effective teaching style, or they are 'meh' teachers that only talk about what's in the book or OLS, and don't seem very interested in actually teaching. But overall, I would say that the teachers are effective and most are willing to take their time to help you out.

I wouldn't say so. Now it doesn't negatively influence anyone; I think that one would stay pretty much the same being in PA Virtual. Integrity can of course always be gathered through completing your work or working in a group. It's important to learn email etiquette as email is often be used to communicate with teachers and staff, which is a great skill set to have!

I would say that it supports students with learning differences. Many classes are asynch by default, which I dislike since I'm more of a synch (live) class person. Being a homeschool, you have the freedom to approach work in the way you'd like for the most part.

My experience overall has been pretty positive! The major setback for me are the asynch classes, where you'll have to contact your teachers personally, and they're not involved in the class otherwise. Beware of the tech issues, oh my! There are quite often tech issues, none severe although it's annoying, but it's something everyone can relate to in this school for sure. It's nearing the end of the school year of my first year, being a sophomore student. PA Virtual has given me flexibility in learning, making me feel a lot less stressed. The students are friendly. Some teachers there will be the best teachers ever, both personally and with the content they teach you, which I find to be MUCH more effective than the content taught in brick-and-mortar school. As an introverted high school student with high anxiety, this is the best environment for me. I would recommend the school overall!

This school is exceptional if your student is engaged and wants to learn. The state test scores are weak because many homeschoolers opt out of the testing because we know that it is meaningless and mandated propaganda. This school guides your student and encourages the development of areas of interest. The college placement is exceptional , the selection of classes and electives is generous and interesting. The peer atmosphere is much more Anne of green gables than Beyonce, thank goodness. The students overall are serious about their education, motivated , polite , respectful and on the right track.

We have been with Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School (PAVCS) for 7 years. We had previously graduated 4 older children through a traditional brick and mortar school with dissatisfaction with many of their decisions and disinterest in teaching children with different learning styles. It was frightening to consider brick and mortar for academic excellence with or 5th child. It has been the best decision for him. He is on target and above his grade level. The staff is very supportive and interested in your comments, concerns, and academic success. We also enjoy the flexibility it gives us to do other activities. He participates in a home school volley ball team that we are able to attend during the day and attend the tournaments while still maintaining a school day, and we can plan outings for education on our own or with the school. We are able to socialize with other families at the outings and get together if we so desire. As his parent and Learning Coach I am also learning many things that I have forgotten!

PA virtual is not what it really represents itself to being . My daughter has been an honor roll student since kindergarten and I enrolled her for the eighth grade at the school and all of a sudden she's receiving failing grades - she has have received almost double the amount of homework assignment & classroom assignments versus when she was an a actual physical school -----when it came time to take her state exams rather than the teachers give her review sheets to work on they gave her & the other students new assignment ....

The support at this school is very shaky... they say that there is flexibility but there's really little to none and I do not see the purpose of the family coordinator.

I regret enrolling my daughter in the school . My advice is for folks to Research other virtual schools and stay away from PA virtual .

I enrolled my child in 6th grade at PA Virtual. I am VERY SORRY that I did. He was given failing grades at PA Virtual, after being a straight A student on honor roll at a brick and mortar school. I just DID NOT UNDERSTAND how or why this was happening when my child is a very intelligent child. I DON'T know if they do this to children to keep the school open or what. I am so LOST, but I DON'T want my child to suffer. PLEASE PLEASE parents, if you want your child to succeed, this is NOT THE RIGHT SCHOOL.

My children entered PAVCS in 4th and 5th grades. Elementary, intermediate and middle school were wonderful! High School was another story. It was unorganized, teachers and administrators did not follow the diamond model. The scholars program was a nightmare. Had an administrator yell at my husband and myself in a conference, while our child was sitting in the room. Very unprofessional, and the kid was in shock listening to an administrator act so inappropriately. The principal was clueless to what was happening, When listening to a live class, 35 minutes were spent on "housekeeping issues" and not instruction. Totally unacceptable! Paid for a year book last year and still have not received it. Because we left the school we lost access to sapphire so never got a final report card, requested through FSC, Principal and with administration over summer, still have not gotten a report card even though I was promised after learning we had no access to sapphire we would get one. Have no idea how my child did on her Keystone exam last year. Totally disgusted. No problems ever encountered until High School. We took all 3 kids out, and are very happy at another cyber school.

I am a senior at PA Virtual. I have been with this school since 2002. Although it's had it's ups and downs I believe that PA Virtual is an all around good school. Most of the teachers care about the students, the staff attempts to help work around your schedule. Now, the asynchronous model this year is very biased and might have the school lose more funding, some may excel in one subject, but have another hold them back and then they are stuck in 90 minute classes all day. The classes are too close together, so the student is on the computer all day which is NOT healthy for the student or teacher.The school's problem is funding and they're always trying new things which isn't always great. Two years ago the school was working great, but now it's starting to turn. Hopefully if the school gets more money they can turn it back around.

Pa Virtual is pretty neat! We have a variety of courses, good teachers, and interesting videos made to inspire us. PAVCS needs funds in order to improve, we need more teachers and courses (we've had to cut some of both because of lack of funding), but I like the teachers that we have. I started this cyber school since I was in Kindergarten, I've always loved it, the teachers, students the class setup. I could be open in the class room, the teachers were always supervising what was being said and it helped so no big arguments started. A thing I would like to change is that we get more funding so we can become even better (more teachers, more outings etc..) I'm in my junior year now and I still enjoy this school.

The 2013-2014 school year will be our first at PAVCS. Since registering in March, everyone including the enrollment team, health team, placement team, ambassador team, family support team, and teacher has been responsive and helpful. In fact I chose this school over another one in PA using the same K12 curriculum due to the lack of responsiveness and poor communication skills on the part of the other school.

I love this school. Brick and mortar public school seemed like the I-can't department; everything my parents wanted them to do to enrich my education, they said they couldn't do. The class instruction was slow, which made it extremely boring for me. A lot of "busy work" had to be given because I would complete tasks so quickly. And the homework was also an issue; I felt I really didn't need it, yet they gave it to me anyway -- and it was just more busy work. In PAVCS (which uses K12) the curriculum is challenging (I can't just coast through it and get good grades like I was able to do in B&M; I actually have to work hard), and the only homework I ever have is homework I create for myself -- uncompleted schoolwork. If I get everything done, once I finish all my subjects, the day is officially over. Plus, I have learned skills I wouldn't have learned otherwise. I have learned to create and manage my own schedule and keep track of my own time, while in B&M school, the school takes care of all that. It is a big change from B&M school, and PAVCS is a wonderful school. (But minor OLS glitches, grading issues, and computer problems - minus 1 star.)

I give this school a five star rating! Two of my children have been enrolled with this innovative learning experience for 10 years. The teachers are EXCELLENT and they provide the students with professional learning discoveries and more. The principal shows extraordinary leadership. They are actively involved with the day to day schedules and their doors are open to meet and or address any concerns. I am highly involved with the parent organization we take every effort in supporting our children's future as well as implementing plans to keep our school on the move. One word of advice if you are apprehensive about enrolling related to social activities no worries this school has plenty of opportunities in all grade levels for students to meet and greet each another. I like the fact that my children are learning in a safe environment and the curriculum used by K12 is a real fun-filled educational package plan that keeps me children interested. There is never a dull moment in my kid s educational experiences. PA Virtual Charter School is the way to go!

Maybe I should explain. The grammar, intermediate and middle school are wonderful. I've had my children enrolled for 5 years and had receptive, understanding teachers. They were/are awesome and really care about the students (and learning coaches!)! Once you hit high school, LOOK OUT! Teachers become very much like brick and mortar colleagues...insensitive, inflexible and downright impersonal. PAVCS sells the "Diamond Model" and pretty much upholds it, until high school. Many ineffective and unproductive phone calls, unanswered emails and highly unqualified teachers all result in a suffering student. There are many unrealistic work expectations by the so-called teachers and the administration in high school loses their personal touch and the learning coach inclusion model is not only absent, but discouraged. Overnight it seems they began to treat their long time, loyal families like obstacles and appear to highly dislike and avoid accountability. I am not accustomed to complain, but I wish someone would have warned me too, for the sake of my children. Find a different cyber school for high school, trust me.

K12 math, L.A & science curriculum is good, but other schools use it too. I find many teachers unfit for PUBLIC school. Some just don't know how to keep their political, personal opinions separate, and teach w/o bias, sticking to facts & curriculum. I'm constantly doing damage control after a live class, correcting OPINIONS a teacher gave as fact. Most K-4 teachers seem fine, but in grades 5 & up teacher quality dwindles. They tell kids they can take tests as many times as needed to reach desired grade! How is that preparing them for the REAL world? They use the redundant & counterproductive I-ready test program that frustrates students & tells nothing of skill level. Socially, well, you read some recent reviews. I simply concur. I feel $ is a priority so they're catering to their highest enrollment demographic. I'm going back to homeschooling. I do all the teaching anyway. My kids don't need a school that only cares about looking good on paper & keeping high enrollment to get $, even if it marginalizes some. I feel for the few good & progressive teachers there who are seeing the school decline. I know it breaks their heart like it does mine. It was once a good school.

PAVCS has a great mastery curriculum. However, I agree with another review. Regarding promoting tolerance, PAVCS fails. PAVCS offers many social outings. Due to lack of programs promoting tolerance & as mentioned by another review, lack of staff knowledge on such issues, I was apprehensive to attend outings. A "very enthusiastic" parent encouraged me to attend. She said,"Its a chance to educate". She's sweet, but wrong. We attended a couple of outings. Teachers seemed polite, but distant. Many(not all) student families aren't friendly to "different" people & simply refuse to "be educated". You don't have to agree with all, but kindness is just human. Many families didn't return smiles & hellos to "different" people & tension was thick. Kindness for fellow man should be global, not regional, but maybe outings are better in S.E region, where its more diverse? It doesn't change the fact that there's a lack of school-wide programs condemning bigotry & promoting tolerance. I teach my child tolerance & I expect it taught in a PUBLIC school, which PAVCS is. PAVCS is great for core subjects. If you expect social enrichment with cultural diversity & tolerance education, PAVCS falls short.

It really upsets me that I decided t take my son out of brick and mortar school to go virtual. This is my sons first year starting with PAVCS and the reason was because he was being mistreated by his teachers and not getting the special attention he needed to succeed. Unfortunately, ever since I signed up for PAVCS its very difficult to get a hold of anyone. Additionally, I am having problems with the computer they supplied and I have been strung along for the last 5 hours, being told to call several different numbers and being placed on hold for almost 30 minutes at times and no one can help me. It makes me sick that they receive almost 10,000.00 per student per year (Don t believe me? Do your homework) and parents do most of the work and they can t even provide proper support and equipment. I am not sure I will be staying. If this is the beginning, I am not sure I can depend on this school until the end.

We love the math, language arts & science curriculum at PAVCS. Although some of the Language Arts & History lessons seems too pro-Christian. (unbiased teaching of ALL religions is great, endorsement is not). The main problem is that not much is done to condemn bigotry, promote tolerance, and definitely not enough is done to teach about cultural diversity. I mean its PA, outside of Philly, these issues desperately need addressing and the people need to be educated on cultural differences & tolerance. Teachers at PAVCS just aren't very educated on these topics. Teachers also aren't very involved, supportive or friendly once you get to upper grades. The primary grade teachers (K-4) are very good. Once you get to 5th grade, teacher quality starts to dwindle. I expected the school to get better & continue to hire great teachers especially for higher grades, but it doesn't seem that it has. Maybe its due to poor interview practice when hiring teachers, poor hiring standards, or not knowing the needs of the students, which come from a variety of backgrounds. Whatever it is, I think we've overstayed our welcome in the school, and may join others who left if things don't improve.

This is our second year with PAVCS and it seems as though the quality of their program has really dropped. The teachers never call any more to follow up with progress, we can't see any online sessions anymore. This school is a sinking ship and management better wake up fast and make some changes.

This is the first year my daughter is attending PAVCS. Prior to this, she attended a "brick and mortar" school (she is in the 8th grade). Because of a demanding sports schedule, she had to work at a self pace. When we signed up, we were told sessions would be available to be viewed after the class was already over. They call them recorded elluminate sessions. One of the very important classes (Algebra) was not recorded and the teacher was not cooperative at all. I would not recommend this school.

I have been with PA Virtual for 2 years. The teachers are very supportive and try to make sure your not having problems with your school work. The curriculum is a lot easier than a regular brick and mortar school. Teachers have office hours every Friday where you go and talk to them if you need help with anything. Their Technology Team could definitely use some work!!! The teachers even contact parents to let them know how their students are doing. Parents know what is going on, unlike brick and mortar schools where you have to wait for report cards, or go into the school to find out any information. If you feel that cyber school is the best choice for you and your family I would definitely recommend it!!!

We have been with this school for ten years. With students in 4th, 7th and 9th grades, our days are very full. I have one student in Title 1 Reading because of dyslexia. Another has different needs, both Occupational and Cognitive. In a brick and mortar setting these two would just be passed from grade to grade not expected to amount to much. The teachers and staff at PAVCS have encouraged my special needs students to excel in all that they do. Requiring their best performance in all that they do. This model includes many family support options to help keep the educational experience a good and productive one for both the parent and student. One note about enrollment. Go to the website, and enroll through it. There are videos that answer most all of the questions a new family might have. They even touch on what the expectations are when you enroll in our school.

This school has already given me a bad first impression, it has taken me days to reach someone for enrollment,when i finally got a call he told me to go on the website and enroll, he didnt ask if i had questions and he was very rude. If it is going to take me a month to reach someone or get info on a school its rediculous

On the middle school level PAVCS is a great school. My daughter went from being a "D-" average in her brick and mortar school to "A's and B's" in PAVCS. However, if you have a child with learning differences entering PAVCS high school will be a MAJOR challenge. I would NOT recommend PAVCS for high school students.

This school has given my boys the opportunity to excell in areas where they were falling behind in the brick and mortar schools. My younger son was a full year behind in math when he started at PAVCS and absolutely hated math; now, four and a half years later, he is a full grade level ahead in math and actually plans on teaching math as a career. What a difference caring and individual attention can make. The teachers are excellent and the curriculum is challenging; the resources are plentiful and the opportunity for personal growth for each child is outstanding. I have recently pulled my step-daughter out of a well-known boarding school to enroll her in PAVCS as well because I know she will get a better, more thorough education here at PAVCS without all the negetive aspects of a traditional school, and all of my children will be much more prepared to be independent learners for college.

PAVCS has been an excellent school for my children. We have consistently had great teachers who respond within the hour. Blackboard is a universal tool used by colleges and universities throughout the country, and successfully utilized at PAVCS. There is one password and username to enter into Blackboard for each student. Blackboard is one place where all announcements, in-school e-mail, course listings, outings, teacher and Family Support Coordinator contacts are located, as well as, direct links which are individualized for the student. The school's main mission is to see each student succeed. They have been there for my children to individualize based on his/her academic needs (either slow down or advance). New offerings are based on parental feedback. PAVCS utilizes K12, same as Agora, and the the student would have to log onto their couse listing, in the same manner as a child at Agora.

I think its a horrible school. I am always emailing my teachers reciving a 'out of my office' responce. Let me say this, if you are looking for a good teachers who respnde to emails and encourage your student/children it is not the school for you. When you student/ children are failing they will make it feel like him/her has no hope. I'm telling you. I will never ever use this schooling again. The website (blackboard) is not user friendly. It's is confusing you have to sign onto 10 different things just to do your work, remember 20 different unsernames and passwords. Now agora, great school! If your are interested in you son/daughter doing a online school I suggest Agora, you get admediate respnce to emails, the teachers set up an IM where the student, if they need help, can IM te teacher, reciving a responce right away outstanding school.
