I went here all 4 years for high school it was the worst decision I could have made. I spent 4 years learning slope intercept formula which I had already learned in middle school. We did not cover trig, calc, or any useful math outside of algebra. The teachers are power hungry and will punish students for anything they seem as wrong or disrespectful, I had diarrhea and got reprimanded for being in the bathroom too long. They grade based on politics of your not a liberal socialist you won't do well here cause they'll ask for policial opinions and just say they're wrong. They encourage their students to engage in public walkouts and protest actively putting these students in danger there were at least 2 walkouts while I went here.

I when here all 4 years from sep 2019 -jun 2023 . I couldn't have for a better high school experience from the front office to security to the teachers even the lunch staff were all so kind and understanding .I'll be honest city high is not for everyone they have higher expiations then your normal home high school butt its because they care and they believe in their students. their special education (iep /504) team is the best they did wonderful job at supporting both in life and in class.

I came to City High as a freshman that was not high school ready. I lacked basic mathematic skills. City high prepared me for college, afforded me the chance to take a courses at CCAC, and grew me into the professional I am today. The staff is caring, friendly, and focuses on student specific needs for a life after graduation. I was able to travel to Costa Rica as a City High student, having become fluent in Spanish. City High connected me with a valuable internship that allowed me to see if my career aspirations were a realistic match to my interest. The student body is very diverse. The culture encourages academic excellence. I now hold a masters degree, all of which I attribute to my time at City High.

My Son graduated 2006 in the founding Class. This school was a good experience for him and he is excelling in the work force.

Terrible, my child is no longer going to this school......It seems like a great school in the beginning but the approach is terrible. My child is having problems graduating from another school so the only option now is a G.E.D. The Workforce Credits were great but Academics were a bust. How is a child released from school for Workforce but is failing Academically? Shouldn't Workforce be for children who have their academics together. I honestly feel like my child should have been reprimanded for not completing school work. I have heard of students having nervous breakdowns because of this school. I agree with the students, this school isn't for all children. This is a mini business school..........They are more focused on work than academics so if your child is already having problems in school behavior, mental, social, ect.... this may not be the best fit

This is a very great school. I think any parent would be happy with their child attending City High.

City High School made me sick, literally. The staff watched me so much and I had little freedom, then they attempted a search that was so bare and unprofessional, I did not consent. City high made my issues with anxiety two times worse, ruined months of my life, and now that someone asks me where I'm going or what I'm doing, I get high levels of stress. There are few staff that were nice and caring, the rest are incredibly rude and careless. City High is by far my worst experience in a school. This is NOT an accepting school. It was so bad, every time I think about my experience in it, I get stressed out, it permanently scarred me mentally. I do not recommend putting you're kids in city high.

I'm a senior at City High...I came from the one of the worse school districts in Greater Pittsburgh (Wilkinsburg). So when I had decided to go to City Charter I was super nervous and thought I for sure going to be behind. It turned out that the curriculum was set in place to individually fit all the kids from different educational levels and slowly integrate into harder and more difficult work. By the following year everyone was one big family both teachers and students.The looping system had helped build a bond unlike most.I have met so many good teachers and all of them care about what you do and how you progress.Next year my younger brother will be attending City High and I wouldn't want him to go to any other school and I know he will have the best teachers possible because he will catch my loop of teachers and IEP workers. I can now say I will be a proud alumni of City Charter High School next year.

People say oh this school sucks blah blah because of the rules and regulations. These are put in place though to root out those who are not really here for education. The ones that can stay are those who the school focuses on because they see bright futures for them. Trust me the school wants to see a bright future in every student so if one is doing bad the teachers start to focus on them. This is good because it allows the students that are already good and can do things go at their own pace. The school is good because the teachers never spoon feed you which is the best. Also everyone is a huge family and come 10th grade year you can joke with almost everyone. We are forced to mingle which give us the soft skills needed in the work place. Also the new senior program has finally been worked out and for sports the robotics team is the best. We all love each other and if you go to competition wow we are the loudest and proudest. Then there is extracurricular activities like the musical chorus art club and such as well Overall i am a huge fan of this school and everything they do and cant wait to be an alumni in 2 trimesters.

I am a sophmore at City High. This school is by far one of the best schools in the city of Pittsburgh. I always used to think negatively of going to school, and despised most of the work at previous schools. Most people would say that about anywhere you go. But when it comes to City High, I didn't dread it. It has a great academic system. The way they teach at this school is very unique. The teacher doesn't teach you, and then you do the work for what you learned. You learn by action. I have never been so excited about learning in my life! This school doesn't feel like school. Even though it's a business school and you're taught to be professional, I don't feel like I'm in a confined prison. I feel each day I go to a place where I can learn in a unique environment, without feeling intimidated or under pressure. My grades have risen higher than ever. I also want to add this school is a very safe place, compared to most city schools. I never feel that I'm being threatened by another student. It's in a great location, a nice building, awesome/hilarious teachers, 5 star academics, and more! This school is all focused on what you want to be when you're older, and it's helped me.

I would just like to start off by saying that if you have or are a religious student who is looking to go to City Charter High School I would rethink your priorities. In the summer of 2013 I was selected to go on a Mission trip to Malawi Africa by an out of school organization. As you may know City Charter High School runs through the summer. I applied for a sabbatical thinking that they would understand that going to another country can LITERALLY change someone s life. How could such a trip not be educational? I of course was denied the sabbatical. If I did not get any further assistance I would have missed more than 7 day s and Failed due to attendance. Something on the back of the Student Hand Book caught my eye the other day. It read. Your Future is uncharted territory, City High Provides the map. Every year City Charter High School takes a trip to Costa Rica. My trip to Malawi Africa was essentially based on the same components other than the fact that I was a Christian and there would be some Christian activities. If they really did use strategies that looked at the big picture, nothing would have stopped me from going on this trip!

I am a Freshman 2012-2013 school year. I like it so far. I like all the African American students, the whole 10-year plan for your future, and the teachers and students. One thing that upsets me is there's no arts here - no choir, no high school musical, and that upsets me because I love the arts! I love singing, dancing, and acting. I took choir every single day at my old school and I love it! I also did the middle school musicals there. If they had some sort of arts here, that would make it 10x better for me!

I'm a senior at City High and let me tell you that everyone is lying when they say that the school gets better. The school is not consistent with anything like the promised, and the new senior program is a wreck. While this is a good academic school, there's no sports whatsoever. Being in a building that is shared with apartments isn't the location a school should be at. While the school prepares you for real life a bit more than others, I wouldn't recommended coming here if you are not 100% focused on academics. If you like sports and having fun, please, go somewhere else. Also, you gain weight by coming to this school. About 90% of the kids I know gained 10+ pounds just in their freshmen year. It's also very stressful, and many kids have to leave due to these breakdowns. I know I for one had to take a week off due to mental breaks. Please, if you already have mental issues of any sort, DO NOT COME HERE, they will get worse.

If you have a great expectations on your Kid on Academic sector, this would be the best school I would recommend. It is a technology based school and the students and teachers are really engaged. It is really different than other High schools because they want you to experience things that you would face in your life after on. So it is more based on your career, and for example they want you to wear professional clothes instead of Jeans or something. Teachers are really nice and helpful even after you graduate. I think this is the best school you would find in Pittsburgh. But If your kid is interested in Sports and stuff, choosing this school would not be a good decision because, they don't even have any sports teams in there, you will have to play for your homeschool that is the only thing my kids didn't like. HOPE IT HELPS..

City High has to be one of the best; if not, the best high school in the greater Pittsburgh area. I have two sons who attend/attened City High who I am proud to say have excelled beyond what I ever would have imagined. I highly recommend City High to any parent who expects nothing more than excellence from their educational system.

When it comes to the community City High deserves 6/5 stars. Really we are like one big family and everyone watches out for each other and its great. When it comes to teachers and their involvement with students City High deserves an equally high score. Each student usually becomes extremely close with at least one teacher, who they can go to if they have problems and who they can trust. But when it comes to academics City High is really ify. In 9th grade you are basically babied. I was doing work that I had already completed in middle school and even before that. The biggest problem is the City High math curriculum. IMP has to be one of the worst programs, the school would benefit greatly by switching to a traditional math program. The best program is the English program, the others fall in between but all could use improvement.
