Research does not support homework in the elementary grades, yet all grades at Stony Lane receive homework throughout the year. It is definitely something I wish they did not assign, but rather encourage families to read with their students at home as their "homework"

I have three children at Stony Lane and each classroom teacher they have had throughout the years has been fabulous!

One of my children has struggled to read, so I can only comment about this experience. The classroom teacher identified my child's deficiencies and was able to put them with the reading specialist and referred them to the FREE "summer school" for supports with reading. My child's reading has been steadily improving through this process.

I don't have any specific reason to believe they don't handle bullying really well or poorly

Excellent! My children are very happy here, I find it to be a close knit environment, and I would recommend this school who is interested in a balanced elementary public school education

Teachers are not knowledgeable about the warning signs to look for, nor are they supported in their advocacy for their students, and again, they are burnt out and waiting to retire so they dont really seem to care about the students that could use a little extra either because they need more reinforcement or because they are ready for an extra challenge. They do what they are required to do and if you cant keep up or your behavior is out of control - oh well, tomorrow's another day and I am o e day closer to retirement

Not enough staff in the building or support of the behaviors

They are burnt out from not enough support in their classrooms. So many students with learning needs participating in the general ed population and they do not have the support staff or appropriate special education support so the whole classroom suffers

I would say they are trying. There is a Stony Lane creed that is recited each morning and lots of anti-bullying campaigns. However the reality is there is minimal adult supervision of students during lunch and recess so there is in fact quite a lot of bullying going on.

I was hopeful the new principal who has a special education background would help implement more supports for students of all levels, but in the time she has been at the school the numbers of classroom aides has been reduced. The kindergarten classrooms were given iPads instead of teaching assistants. Behaviors escalating in my childrens classrooms disrupting their learning and children out of control at PTO events. Students were running thru the school during the sweetheart dance tearing down the decorations.

Little to no communication from the teachers about the expectations of the homework or how to assist my children

So many positive things were unfortunately tainted by a very poor experience across every grade level. Administration should be ashamed of themselves for the bare minimum they give to the students learning to read, write, and add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

My daughter has attended Stony Lane from Kindergarten and she is almost through 5th grade. I can't say enough about the high quality and professionalism of the teachers, office staff, Principal and anyone else associated with this school. I've always made sure that she did her homework & participated in some extra curricular courses offered, and I have easily established a rapport with her teachers. She has consistently scored "Proficient w/Distinction" on NECAP Reading & Math. The Open Classroom concept is not a hindrance. The teachers keep the kids engaged, and yes, once in a while it does get loud. The children thrive there. Many parents have told me that their child was quickly diagnosed with various types of learning issues, and were promptly contacted with information and advice. Many were given Individual Education Plans to monitor and assist them in their learning. This is extra work for the teachers, and they make sure that each and every child is on track. Some children may need more than others, and it is up to the parents to stay involved. This school is at capacity enrollment, gee I wonder why?!

This school has its students perform above all schools in the state and consistantly implements the newest training approaches. The no walls concept continues to be one of the reasons this school achieves better than average results with all students but especially with gifted children. Superb parent teacher participation is seen by overfull parking lots for each of the PTO sponsored after school activities.

I'm not sure how this school rates so high. My son went to kindergarten and first grade at stony and I was unimpressed. How can parents not mention that there are no walls? Yes, that's right, the classrooms are giant cubicles. It's a joke. If your child has any form of ADD or ADHD this school is not for them. The best part of that school is the school nurse teacher Mrs. Schnack. She is wonderful.

Stony Lane is a great school, however the new Principal is not warm at all - actually he is rude.
