THIS SCHOOL IS TRASH, the bathrooms are horrible kids are on there phones and there is no privacy. The school is always hot feels like I'm burning. I cant stand the teachers and there are no classes anybody wants to go to. I really haven't been on the bus but from what my friends say it is horrible and they say it is painful. ANother factor to all of this is TIVERTON IS BROKE we have 4th grade at the middle school making every hallway packed. Then the students are jerks and the principles and teachers don't care.The safety is horrible too because non of the students care. There is no emotional support. The only for this school to be better I remove all teachers and principles and get students to choose the teachers they feel are good for them. The next way would to get better school equipment because the books there are from 2001. So, believe this school just need to shut down.

This school is so disgraceful my daughters have dealt with bullying and dealt with it for years from elementary til now! The principal is an absolute jerk and jarhead with absolutely no care as to what happens my youngest has scars on her from being harmed and school did nothing, my oldest has becomenso depressed has made scary, sad remarks of wanting to un alive herself because of the bullying. Principal Zitoli had them sign a contract and has not upheld it at all I get told "your kids arent perfect either" I never said they were but I have seen these children they deal with in a public setting and cops were called which i told him! Now he uses that as leverage and says this stuff is happening outside of school and its not just outside of school its in school mostly because my kids dont leave home. If you move to Tiverton please send your children elsewhere or homeschool if you can this school is very dangerous!

The principal is totally vacant and rather rude. The assistant principal tries to help but the principal was unbearable.
We left TMS in our daughters 5th grade year. She was having a really hard time with a girl in her class. The girl (in 5th grade) kept asking my daughter to go into an area of the locker room so they could kiss. It was really upsetting to my daughter to continually have to ask her to stop doing this. We requested a meeting with the principal but he had to reschedule last minute because he was short handed. His secretary had already told us it wasnt on his calendar. When we rescheduled, the Assistant Principal also sat with us and was the only one that showed genuine concern. The principal told us dont believe everything the kids tell you. He also offered to give our daughter a meeting once or twice a week with Guidance but we couldnt see how that really helped the situation. So, we opted to send our daughter to a different school. When we told him we didnt think that was a good solution and to maybe offer that to the girl who was doing this to our daughter, he spent 45 minutes telling us how long he has been a principal and how these things happen and that its just a weird phase kids go through. My daughter didnt even want to go back to pick up her belongings.
After we left the meeting, we waited for someone to bring down her stuff and we overheard the principal in the assistant principals office talking about us saying what the **** do they want us to do? Using rather explicit language. He came out of the office and was completely shocked to see us still waiting there.
I should note that the gym teacher stated that she would try to keep an eye on it but it kept happening and my daughter said the teacher would leave them alone and go into the gym.

I still go to this school, I got bullied last year so bad I just wanted to stay home, and the person got reported multiple times and all they did was talk to them and they get mad if you are not there for like a day.

When I went here I was always bullied, sometimes for the stupidest reasons. And the school literally did nothing about it! I was even suspended just because I used self defense on myself when another student attacked me first! They just literally allow bullying to happen, and dont care at all what happens.

The test scores for the 2021- 2022 are historically the worst in its history. Yet, the scores of every other school in our town have gone up since the pandemic. When this was addressed at the October School Committee meeting, the superintendent went on record to say that the principal already has a plan to address these scores and is working with the previous principal to implement it. It is deeply disappointing that the school committee members would allow no detailed analysis as to what specifically the plan is to address this decline that aligns more with the change in leadership and less with the pandemic. There are only two Middle Schools in the state that scored lower than Tiverton Middle School. While TMS was climbing up in the recent years, its hard to deny that the new leadership hasnt negatively impacted the progress. Sadly, he continues to blame Covid, but the scores were still climbing before he arrived.
The principal is passive/aggressive and lacks the ability to handle parent concerns. Parents I have spoken to on the sidelines of our daughters sports and activities have shared similar experiences and even some horror stories of him dismissing major bullying situations with kids sometimes need to get knocked around a little bit. Everybody gets through it, its middle school, you know?
With any attempt to speak with an employee of TMS, expect condescending and dismissive remarks that dont offer any solution. There is a pattern intended to distract from the issue followed by being incapable of listening to concerns. Responses from Administration in writing are non existent unless you CC the Superintendent. This school is doing more harm than good and any efforts in closing learning gaps is undetectable. Students are not a priority and it shows.

Strongly recommend you look into private school options. This school has no interest in educating students. The hyper focus is on covering for one another. The principal is dangerously careless.

worst school ever. my child got sent home with detention. its all because a part of her stomach was showing in the clothes i spent money and she feels comfortable in. the dress code is extremely sexist.

As someone who has gone to this school in the past, it was an ok experience. Maybe lower than ok. I had many issues going on personally and the teachers seemed like they couldnt care less. There were times where I was refused to go to the nurse, there were times were id have breakdowns/meltdowns and teachers did little to nothing about it. It seems like most of the time they only care about the schools reputation than the students well being. However there were some teachers that were nice, which I appreciate. Rumors spread like absolute wildfire, there were many rumors spread about me personally and teachers did nothing about it. I went to this school with someone who has a mental disability, and wanted a teacher to go away to give them some space. The teacher did the complete opposite. They went in their face and told the student off. Instead of leaving them alone as requested.

TMS has been a "fair" experience for my child, with both highs and lows. As for the good, there are decent student/teacher ratios and most of the teachers seem to take a genuine interest in the development of their students. The new principal has brought an energy to the position that was greatly needed. As for the not so good, there are teachers, particularly tenured ones who are more interested in "checking off the boxes" than striving to provide a quality learning experience for the kids. Neither the principal nor the school department administration appear to be willing to call these teachers to task. There is also a serious lack of parental involvement. Overall, while needing improvement, it beats paying for private school!

These reviews seem to be pretty old. The new principal and assistant principal have turned the school around -- for the better, for sure.

The school has changed very much since the last review was written. Jazz band, Cross Country, Basketball Team, and the academics overall have boomed. Our band program has been the best thank to the involvement. We have better NECAP grades and a new principal who actually cares about kids, takes discipline seriously and changed the school entirely. No fights in the hallways, better substitute teacher and more parent/student involvement. The accelerated programs are crowded with people who are eager to push ahead and attain their goals. I give this school four stars, only because the budget is very small and money is tight, but the principal made some very great iprovements.

Horrible school. Horrible Principal. No one cares about the kids. Lots of bullying and special treatment for the kids with PTO parents. If I could move or afford private school, I would never have my kids here.
