My two boys went here from nursery through 8th grade and now they are at a large public high school. They were so ready, academically and socially, and they are enjoying their classes. Both have weekend jobs and their employers remark on how they see what needs doing and work hard. That's their Waldorf education to me - responsible-minded, interested in what's going on, and happy to help.

Homework is introduced starting in grade 4. The amount builds through middle school but, for the little ones, homework is to be a kid - go out and play, hear /read a story, develop your imagination and your interests.

Posted: February 4, 2020

The teachers stay with the class through several /all of grade 1 -8 so they really get to know the children well. My kids' are in high school now but their class teachers were almost like a third parent.

Character is a core value for everyone in the school community. The children learn what they see around them.

Posted: February 4, 2020

The board is active and highly committed. The teachers are also very active in leadership and play a large role in directing the operations of the school.

Know the children and subjects deeply. Don’t have to “teach to the test”.

Posted: December 2, 2019

Teaches students to respect and care for themselves, others and the world around them. Adults model this behavior.

Posted: December 2, 2019

Caring and efficient. The child is placed at the center of the decision making process.

Posted: December 2, 2019

Not a special ed school but works hard to meet the needs of the students enrolled. Thinks out of the box.

Posted: December 2, 2019

Not tolerated. Works with parents and students to resolve issues.

Posted: December 2, 2019

Excellent. As an both alumni parent and parent of a current student, I see the amazing impact of this education on my children.

Posted: December 2, 2019

Homework doesn’t start until 4 th grade. Not busywork.

Extremely thoughtful in all decisions made to consider how the waldorf philosophy is worked into all activities pertaining to leadership.

I can attest to this first hand as my son has sensory processing challenges.

Posted: April 23, 2019

I don’t believe bullying is not an issue in Meadowbrook, but I have no experience really.

Posted: April 23, 2019

We are pre homework years. Though the parents get homework from time to time to do with the children and I am extremely happy with this approach

Posted: April 23, 2019

The most dedicated teachers I have ever met.

Posted: April 23, 2019

They teach children to take care of each other and be kind.

Posted: April 23, 2019

Over the moon happy and completely committed to putting our son through every year Meadowbrook offers

Posted: April 13, 2019

Homework doesn’t truly begin until 4th grade.

Posted: April 13, 2019

The students seem to connect with and trust the teachers, and it’s clear the teachers are invested in the success of each student.

Posted: April 13, 2019

It’s the way of Waldorf education to develop the child’s whole self and to measure success not only academically, but in the social and emotional intelligence of the kids.

Posted: April 13, 2019

There’s a team of devoted administrators who lead with heart.

Posted: April 13, 2019

They are capable of offering tutoring and support for learning differences, but the students who need assistance beyond what is offered are either given off site resources or referred to other options for schooling.

Posted: April 13, 2019

It’s a no tolerance policy and the teachers/admin make a point to even the field by being involved and treating it with the appropriate level of seriousness.

Meadowbrook has heart, compassion, order, values hard work, and is gentle yet firm in guiding kids.

My 4th grader has attended MWS since Kindergarten. We feel so fortunate to be able to provide our child with such a wonderful education. The school is nurturing yet also challenging. They emphasis academic but also incorporate art, music, and movement throughout the curriculum. Our son is thriving at Meadowbrook and we look forward to the next four years at the school.

Meadowbrook is a blessing to all that are fortunate enough to attend. I wish more children had a k-8 experience like the one Meadowbrook offers.

My three children were blessed to have had this Waldorf education from Early Childhood through 8th grade. They are now thriving young adults. As my husband recently told a family with young children, "Meadowbrook was the best parenting decision we ever made." Educating the head, the heart, the soul. Finding beauty in what they learn, what they create, who they journey with- both teachers and classmates. Becoming more human in a society where other schools are focussing on standardized "products." My husband and I invested in our children's younger years with the confidence that they would be competent and creative in managing their high school and college years.

My daughter transferred to Meadowbrook from a public school. The education she is receiving here is both broad and deep. A Waldorf education is said to meet the child where they are developmentally; letting children be children, while at the same time delivering a beautiful and complex curriculum. My daughter's days are filled with stories and experiences that resonate with her, pique her curiosity and encourage her to think deeply and work with care. In the theme of educating the whole child, she is learning art, music, German, handwork, and woodwork in addition to the 3R's. The music program is top notch as evidenced by the strong MWS representation at the All State Music Festivals and is a joy to experience. The teachers are warm and deeply caring; truly Renaissance men and women and great models of life-long learning. My daughter has made friendships that I know will last a lifetime, and as parents we can say the same about this welcoming and supportive parent community. My only regret is that we didn't make the transfer sooner.

A Nursery through Eighth Grade Waldorf School. Serving Rhode Island for almost 30 years. An arts-based, human-centered, education for children ages 1-14.

Meadowbrook failed in most every aspect of my child's education. I have had positive experiences with Waldorfs, so this if for Meadowbrook only. Overall, it is much too feminine an experience for boys, especially as they enter puberty. The staff all speak in hushed, falsely sweet voices. Mean children's actions are not properly redirected. Children are expected to 'work it out'. After a time the kids learn to take advantage of their teachers with an Eddie Haskel type behavior. Ultimately, because of this and the small class size, a child who is not among the 'in' group becomes totally alienated during their last years there. Finally, although Waldorf teachers are supposed to stay with the class throughout their entire time at the school, it seems that many teachers leave as soon as their kids graduate from the school. So make sure to check if the teacher has any children at the school before you enroll your child. Finally, the schools leadership lacks dramatically in ability and sincerity. A person cannot hide their true self simply by speaking in breathy, sugar coated words. My primary suggestion is to hire more male staff/influencers.

My time spentat this school was amazing. It encompasses the whole person and inspires a love of learning. The learning style is very unique, it creates a love for the arts whether its carving a spoon, making a doll or creating own text books. I can't exlain half of what this school was for me. It is so welcoming. The teachers are more than just teachers. It gave me a love of nature, arts and learning. While inspiring me to be so much more than a strait A student. I transitioned well into high school and now look back on my wonderful memorys of meadowbrook.
