The teachers at this school are on a power trip, they constantly find ways to undermine and yell at students when the students are doing nothing wrong. Acedemically, the students might as well be at a zoo. While some teachers are very kind, most use minimal effort and little to no work is done during the day to day. This school brings kids to an all-time low mentally, and provides zero support and cares more about their statistics and how they look to the naked eye than their own students.

East Greenwich schools have long been recognized for their excellence, but in recent years, there has been a noticeable decline in the quality of education. Many school facilities are in disrepair, and there appears to be a growing lack of mutual respect and accountability among both students and staff. Unfortunately, the current structure of the teachers’ union often protects underperforming educators while offering little incentive to support and reward the exceptional ones.

Given the high taxes paid by residents, one would reasonably expect well-maintained, modern schools with small class sizes, strong academic programs, and a wide range of extracurricular activities and electives. Yet, this is not the reality. For instance, foreign language instruction is not introduced until 7th grade and only as an elective—missing critical opportunities to build language skills earlier in elementary and 6th grade.

The Common Core system, in its current implementation, is failing to prepare students with essential life skills. Basic competencies such as cursive writing, financial literacy, use of measurement tools, and an understanding of the metric system are being overlooked. As a result, students are graduating with a narrow and insufficient knowledge base.

Additionally, school environments are deteriorating. Restrooms are unsanitary, and concerning behaviors such as vaping and the use of nicotine pouches (like Zyn) are reportedly occurring on campus. While there’s an expectation of transparency and oversight in areas as trivial as doggie daycare, there seems to be a troubling lack of accountability within our schools, where our children—our most valuable responsibility—spend the majority of their day.

The Town of East Greenwich and the State of Rhode Island must acknowledge that the current system is not serving our children. It’s time for parents to become more engaged and demand meaningful reform. Change must begin now—starting with a serious re-evaluation of the role and structure of the teachers’ union.

*I can’t really rate the special education program at this time, however accommodations for students with IEPs is terrible. The district doesn’t want to invest financially in students in need of more learning support.

This school has an amazing environment, and welcomes in all types of people. They offer a fantastic special education program and always make accommodations for students with special learning needs. The teachers here are fantastic and offer many times after school for you to get extra help. The sports here are good and the games offer a place for students to interact with each other. I have heard others say that if you have less money then you are treated differently here, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Everyone here has access to the same learning opportunities and that is made known. Couldn’t be happier with my experiences here. Just so you know, during my time at this school, I was living low income and I am a black man that never experienced disrespect for it.

I’m a girl with adhd at EGHS and I personally receive almost no accommodations or help even after repeatedly asking. Teachers constantly break my 504 plan, I was even threatened by a teacher after I spoke up regarding my 504 plan. Furthermore in gym class I was so badly injured by another student that I ended up with a TBI and the school could not have cared less. East Greenwich High School has been god awful.

If you are white and rich and gifted, then maybe you’ll like it here. If you’re diverse, middle to lower income, and special ed, then not so much. My kid is in the special needs program - and I have not been impressed. They are so lax with my child just because of the learning disabilities - but it means my child is not advancing or learning more. My child does better on work at home with me than at school. School is more just a playground. And my child has minor special needs only - just learning disabilities. But otherwise is normal socially, But still is ostracized by the other kids. In years my kid is barely included in invites or birthday parties. And the EG moms. Whoa! SO STUCK UP. At one of the birthday parties I literally had a few turn their shoulders to me when I walked up to say hi. Why? Well I’d never met them before - so who knows. Is it because our skin is darker? Or English isn't our first language? Or because we are not rich? Beats me. But the message has always been clear : if you are not white and rich, you’re not welcome. For the social well-being of my kids we are planning to move to another district. I cannot recommend this school.

great school if you are white or if you child is gifted or has a learning disorder. Minority or middle of the road student and your child will be ignored and allowed to fall through the cracks

since their new contract, teachers do the minimum. they show up and do what is required per contract. After school help is nearly impossible particularly in English department

I agree with the previous comment "Unfortunately for such an affluent community it has very little knowledge of the true spirit of education. ... Due to the affluence in this community there are an extraordinary amount of tutors for the students which has inflated the real capabilities of the system. It appears that private schools may be a better alternative if living in this community. "

The building may be falling apart, but I loved going to this school as a teen and I hope my youngest child will enjoy going there next year as well.
