If you are white and rich and gifted, then maybe you’ll like it here. If you’re diverse, middle to lower income, and special ed, then not so much. My kid is in the special needs program - and I have not been impressed. They are so lax with my child just because of the learning disabilities - but it means my child is not advancing or learning more. My child does better on work at home with me than at school. School is more just a playground. And my child has minor special needs only - just learning disabilities. But otherwise is normal socially, But still is ostracized by the other kids. In years my kid is barely included in invites or birthday parties. And the EG moms. Whoa! SO STUCK UP. At one of the birthday parties I literally had a few turn their shoulders to me when I walked up to say hi. Why? Well I’d never met them before - so who knows. Is it because our skin is darker? Or English isn't our first language? Or because we are not rich? Beats me. But the message has always been clear : if you are not white and rich, you’re not welcome. For the social well-being of my kids we are planning to move to another district. I cannot recommend this school.

Some districts are more progressive with education including: laptops for all students, textbooks for referencing concepts, foreign language starting in elementary schools, lower student-teacher ratios.
Overall mediocre experience. East Greenwich schools are supposed to be “the best” but it’s the parents that make these kids as good as they are. Test results are indicative of the socioeconomics of the Town, not so much the quality of education kids are receiving. Time to move forward with modern buildings and technology. Residents pay very high taxes and deserve the very best.

No textbooks issued to assist students with their homework. How can a parent help their child without a textbook or resource to reference. The way parents learned concepts is much different than the way students are learning today.

It’s a middle school, not the easiest age to deal with but overall the kids are decent towards each other here.

Vice principal needs to tone it down, as one student mentioned the administration is “tyrannical”. I agree with this statement, they should get to know the students before trying to discipline them for petty issues that could be mitigated via better communication methods.

In speaking with parents with children in other school districts, their kids are getting a more proactive approach to meeting the needs of students.

No issues at this point but have heard teachers have too many students so much goes unnoticed.

I'm not sure. The principal is new. I want to give her a chance to get her ducks in a row. However, based on the practices I see in my son's classroom, I am not sure that teachers are given a lot of professional development or support.

My son is happy at Cole. That is certainly a positive. It is a beautiful facility. However, there is a lack of innovation and authenticity in the teaching methods/practices (my son is in 6th grade, so perhaps things improve in the upper grades). I have been happy with the math curriculum. Others...not so much.

Mostly busy work (especially social studies and ELA)....not purposeful.

My son's math teacher seems to have her finger on the pulse. His other core teachers send home a lot of worksheets and busy work. When I check Aspen, I see assignments like, "parent signature." How is that standard based? I was hoping for more. As a middle school teacher, I could NEVER get away with the "not best" practices that I see my son exposed to daily :(

Is the academic achievement level of Cole students a product of classroom learning, or is it a result of the paid tutoring and parental support? You'll find out.

My first child is starting 8th grade at Cole this year and my second child is entering the school as a 6th grader. Our experience has been for the most part very positive. The environment at the school is very safe, positive and productive. The principal and vice principal do not tolerate any inappropriate behavior and the extracurriculars are very good. There is a strong emphasis on sports (district wide) but the art and music departments are also excellent. There are very high academic expectations, and I would like to see more support for the middle achievers to become high achievers, and an honors English class. I've heard that support for IEP kids is very good.

This principle does not promote academic excellence in this school. She does not encourage students working towards their potential.

I am a student at this school. The academic classes are way too easy for all the kids. For all of the people who think it is easy don't try. If people don't try what is the point of even going there? This school only cares about its name, not the students. It is one of the worst schools in the state. Do not consider enrolling here.

I had two go through this school. The first one always was made to feel like there was something wrong with her, and us. We worked very hard but never quite felt supported. Equally bad experience with number 2. They like everyone to think its the best school in the state, but actually alot of cliques and bullying.

im currently a 7th grader now but i moved here after 5th grade and this school makes everyone feel safe and welcome.its hard to be there on the first day because you get lost or you dont know anyone but you make friends fast on the first day.i highly think you should send your kids to cole because they do everything they can just to help you out trust me! its the best school in the district not even going to lie i thought my old school was better but its really not! cole is the best school so send your kids here and no where else and you will love the results i promise you that!

The only honors' classes offered are 7th grade, and 8th grade accelerated math course. The 8th grade accelerated math course is a regular Algebra 1 course. Students are placed to two teams per grade for easy administration. There is an extraordinary amount of tutors hired by the parents in this community, which has inflated the real capabilities of the system.

Horrible response time from teachers/administration. Very unoganized!! Possible for kids to slip through if the administration doesn't think they are worth helping. This school tends to cover up incidents so you will never know if anything bad happens to your child!!!
