In January 2021 I yanked my children out of Pell which they despised. I transferred them to another public school system which involves 100 miles of driving per day and $6k/yr/kid. It is well worth the time and money as the kids literally run from the car to be the first in line every morning.
why would a parent want to send their child to Pell which has one of the worst ratings in Rhode Island

Such an awful school my child got ran over by a bus while walking across the street the cross guard didn't even notice. I'm in the suing process but I don't have enough money.

The teachers and staff have gone above and beyond for my kids. They feel heard and valued at Pell.

Both of my children have IEPs and the small group work they have gotten throughout the years (both formally and informally) has been fantastic. The school has gone out of its way to provide us with every possible resource.

There is little to no homework, which I appreciate. What homework my kids do get helps give me a point of contact for what they are learning about and a way to engage them therein.

I have loved my experience with Pell. (I had children there for three years, K through 2.) It is a beautiful facility with a technology rich environment. The staff and teachers are loving and go above and beyond for their students. I also appreciate that there is a diverse student body (both ethnically & economically).

Teachers overall great but Do Not alert parents of any issues or injuries unless we seem to ask.

My daughter will be going into third grade this year, she started at Pell in Kindergarten. I have been so pleased with the school. The administration is open and wants to hear parent feedback. The teachers my daughter has had have been fantastic. Her second grade teacher empowered the students to change the world, not just read about change but to make change themselves. To see how my shy reserve child has grown and gained confidence over her years at Pell, have confirmed that this school is the correct choice.

I have 2 children at Pell Elementary, one in 1st grade and one in Pre-K. All Newport elementaries were closed when they built Pell and they are now the only elementary in Newport. As a result, there are 9 1st grade classes and 3 classes use the gym at the same time. Overcrowding is a bit of an issue but that being said there was a huge influx of students when Pell opened its doors that they weren't expecting. They had to annex the pre-K program to a neighboring town in an unused school. That's about the only negative thing I can say about the school. My both of my sons teachers are full of compassion and they care about every one of their students. They go above and beyond for them, making sure they thrive. At Pell they have afternoon specials everyday that consist of music, art, PE, library. There are two outside play areas. One for kindergarten and 1st and the other for 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

Pell annex pre-K program is a integrated program specially geared toward special needs students but allows other children to be part of the program to learn leadership, compassion and understanding. My son has thrived here and has learned beyond my expectations. They offer bus service for these students.

I highly recommend Pell! It is a wonderful school and the superintendent, principal and staff run a great school.

Pell Elementary School opened in September of 2013 combining 3 neighborhood schools and encompassing a body of almost 900 students. In just a short time, Pell has fostered a sense of community among the population it serves. Pell provides opportunities for all of its students whether they have special needs or benefit from extra challenges. Pell's staff is superb and is always focused on putting the student's needs first; whether it be in the classroom, art room, music room or gymnasium. Pell offers technological opportunities that older, antiquated schools cannot. Smart boards, computers and tablets are found in every classroom. Students take both a technology class and a STEM class. The grounds offer 2 playgrounds one designed for K & 1st grade and one for 2-4 grades; a basketball court, fields and a community garden. Pell is bright and cheerful and full of well-mannered, polite students. After school programs range from art classes taught by artists affiliated with the Newport Art Museum to tennis with a member of the Newport Recreation Department as well as after school homework support to those who need it. An excellent opportunity for all!

We are very happy with the new school. My daughter loves her teacher and is thriving at Pell.
