GHMS has been an answer to prayer. Both of our kids have attended grades 6-8 and I don't know of a better academic team (from the principal down) for middle schoolers. The teachers make learning fun, and invest in the kids' experiences. The administration actively works to keep the school and community connected. It was the launch pad for my oldest's journey to one of SC's Governor's Schools. They hold Parent University sessions/parent nights that educate the parents on topics from mental, academic and emotional/social points of view. Can not say enough positive about this amazing group of adults investing in our next generation.

My kid has had a great experience here. Great school administration and teachers have been wonderful. She is an eager student and teachers have really responded to her by helping her any way they can. You just have to ask or show effort.

All i can say is that teachers have never hesitated to contact me about my kid, wither to compliment or to express concern. Also, fort mill school systems are great about contacting parents and updating them on everything from delayed buses, absences to reminder of school closings for holidays

This school is just bad overall. Kids harassed others but aren’t stopped even when kid say they are being harassed. Rules are not consistent. Students are not motivated. Favoritism is consistent. People with disabilities are normally bullied.

Since the school gained a new principal last year, things have definitely turned around. Ms.McNeil, principal now, loves the kids and she is very approachable. Teachers are great and it seems like a better environment under new administration.

They genuinely challenge and push the students to perform at their highest levels. The staff fully understands the competitive nature of the real world. If parents don't want their kids to be challenged, they certainly won't be prepared for college and beyond.

Shouldn't this be an issue that is dealt with by EVERYONE? Let's start with the parents and filter down to the kids. Since when is having no manners in school acceptable? Start at home and strictly enforce. Isn't the schools job to educate your children in subjects that matter? Manners aren't on the cirriculum.

The school itself is below mediocre, they do not care for their students or the sanitizing of their bathrooms, which they admitted to only cleaning TWICE fully. The teachers and staff are rude, and just do not help the students with anything they do or have done. While there are some ups to this school, they are SEVERELY outweighed by the downs.

The school does have a decent homework layout, but giving math homework over the weekend that's due ONLINE on google classroom is challenging, and they do NOT give paper copies to the students to turn in physically which is a big change for most of the students attending.

The teachers are Gold Hill Middle School do not care about the students best interests, other than a few of them. They constantly threaten to write referrals for the smallest things such as chewing gum, yes, for chewing gum you can get an in-school-suspension.

The school does not care about the students to develop character, they give punishment and don't do anything else, they don't try to help you or even try to give you a second chance. When they give you "mercy" its them realizing what you did isn't even that big of a deal and so they give you a lesser punishment.

Not only do the administration complain about anything and everything you do, they do treat the grade levels as if they are mature enough. Being an 8th grader at this school, they did not let me walk home because my parent hadn't updated a permission form from years ago. They treat the middle school students as if they are in kindergarten. They aren't in the loop as to what is happening in their own school which does lead to problems. ie: Vaping in the bathrooms, they have locked it down to the point where 1 person at a time is allowed in the restroom.

Gold Hill Middle School has probably one of the worst social differences in groups out of any school I've been to, while there is a lot of joking some kids genuinely do get bullied and while they say they care, they do NOT .

I see how some parents are very annoyed with the gaps in student groups, but some of the students (Both GT and regular) don’t care about their grades, and instead let it out on the school and it’s teachers.

Good. Some of these reviews are disrespectful students acting as parents, but some a genuine. To parents who are having negative views on the student group go (GT, Special Needs, etc.), some students in both groups do NOT care about grades or school, but take it out on the school and teachers while at home.

My son has attended this school for 2 years. He is in the GT program. The teachers are a mixed bag. They don't seem to care about the students or what they learn. They present material in class and in many cases don't and then kids are tested constantly on material not covered or explained to them. My son hates this school. I have had too many dealings with the teachers and administration on my concerns for their lack of teaching. They berate the children constantly and punish them for the most minor things. For instance my son was sent to the principle's office because he turned the dial on the lock of the locker of a girl next to his and she complained of harassment. While true bullying goes unnoticed.

My son is attending for 3 years this school and we are grateful!
The staf is very priofessional and friendly and they know how to keep kids learning under a good discipline.

We moved down from Long Island NY 2015 year and my kids are very happy with the middle school and have adjusted to South Carolina..

I feel as if a lot of the teachers are just simply not nice or supportive. The students are in a sink or swim environment probably due to testing demands. Students can do just fine (A's) on classwork and quizzes and then get handed a test that has content that was never covered and fail the test and the teachers seem to think that is not a problem. The mentality of a lot of the teachers seem to be an "I don't believe you" attitude to students whom never typically get in trouble. It is creating an environment of students who no longer like school as it has become way to stressful, teachers who don't act like they care, and key concepts being blown right over wether the students actually get it or not. Sad to say in such a great school district.

I'm asked to express how grateful I am for Gold Hill Middle School. I'm not allowed to use disrespectful language, but it was ok for my son's teacher to use vulgarities on him. If your child performs great in school, they will bend over backwards for your child, but if your child has learning disabilities, I STRONGLY suggest you take your child to a different school and not one that advertises a "10". We all know that's a big fat lie.

It is interesting the divide in opinions of the few previous reviews. Keep in mind these are only a small percentage of what is the real deal. Most of the positive reviews are from parents with GT students, that speaks for itself. This school caters to those and almost turns away from most any student who is not GT. It is all the parents fault and swept under the rug. Most of these kids are not behavior problems but very bright, BUT they are NOT GT! There are many teachers that should not be allowed to teach students of any kind. They are so uncaring and instead of encouraging and helping students to be successful they prefer to challenge and prove a kid as wrong daily. They ignore parents when questioned and the administration backs them no matter what and the students suffer, switch schools and remediate classes. This is NOT the most positive middle school in this district. When asked, parents were denied the opportunity to fill out an annual review of the teaching staff! Parents and students voices do not count here!

Special needs children are treated like the lowest of the low. The school administration tries to make the parents miserable enough that they will dis-enroll and homeschool their child. Unless your child is an independent worker who needs very little assistance, don't send them to this school.

I moved here from out of state in late 2013. I cant say enough good things about the teachers and faculty at GHMS. My daughter was failing coming into the district, and with the dedication and communication of staff here at GHMS, my 6th grader is now an honor student. The employees are incredibly dedicated towards the success of each individual student. I am very pleased & proud.

This is an excellent school with high standards in both education and their expectations of the students behavior. The teachers and staff have a passion for teaching and a desire to see that all the kids are happy. My daughter is extremely happy in Gold Hill Middle so much so that she does not want to ever miss a day. She leaves the house in the morning happy and returns in the evening smiling. We are very happy with the discipline procedures in this school, I believe children thrive from structure and discipline. I agree that those people who have issues with the school should look to their own children first to see the issues instead of taking the easy option and passing the book of blame.

They are a school of punishment over anything and everything. It is great that they score well on tests and have trained the kids to take a fill in the dot test, but there is more to education than test taking. They talk in their mission statement about building children up and developing positive self esteem yet everything is based on the negative instead of the positive. The teachers threaten punishment all day and for a parent of a child who tries to always do the right thing and who takes pride in her grades, its upsetting to know that this is the environment that she is in during the school day. I can only hope that the new Principal will be the catalyst for change. The kids deserve better. As a new resident of Fort Mill, who moved here for the reputation of the schools, I am extremely disappointed.

It's sad to see some of the negative reviews of some of the parents. I would have to say, that some of these parents may need to look at their own children for the problem and stop blaming the teachers. I have had two children in this school and I think its wonderful! We have all new principals this year and they are doing a great job! The 8th grade class last year had the second highest scores in the state, not to shabby if you ask me. Keep up the great work Gold Hill!

We've been part of this school district for a combined 22 years and have been extremely pleased until now. Although we had a GREAT experience with the GT core teachers, the PE department and fall and winter sports coaches have serious issues. Teachers who scream at children incessantly obviously have little control and no respect for or from their students. Coaches who have had little or no formal education or training have no business teaching or coaching in a public middle school setting. Unfortunately, the administration doesn't seem to care, parents aren't heard and situations are swept under the rug. It's pretty unbelievable. Needless to say, we will not be returning to the school....what a relief!

This school is amazing!! Yeah, it's disciplined, but that is necessary for a good learning environment. I went to this school for all three years. The teachers and staff are a little harsh, but that has made my transition to high school much easier. I love this school and the teachers there are amazing.
