My Child went to JP2 for middle school. This school is all about funding and scaling its infrastructure, not about what it should be about, education.
The majority of the teachers are subpar. All the good ones leave after a year or two. There is a Spanish teacher still on staff that does not speak Spanish, just plays videos to the class all day. I pulled my kid out and is now in public Highschool. I have had to hire tutors to help catch up with the curriculum at the public high school. My kid was an A & B student @ JP2. They will take your money and just push your kid through.
I would not recommend JP2 at all. JP2 talks a lot about values and religion but they do not practice Catholic values. Just walk into the Gym and look at the giant donation board with names of donors and how $ much they donated to the school. All about the money. Promoting greed, pride, envy. "

I cannot speak highly enough about the experience my children have had so far at JP2. We moved from a very large public school to JP2 in 2021. The school has undergone many changes and positive improvements and it’s truly been a wonderful environment for both of my children. They offer a wide range of opportunities for academic and extracurricular growth.
One of the standout features of JP2 is the availability of many (AP) courses. The school's commitment to offering AP courses demonstrates its dedication to academic excellence and they prepare students for success beyond high school. In addition, my son has had the opportunity to participate in three varsity sports. The emphasis on extracurricular activities has allowed him to develop leadership skills, teamwork, and strong work ethic. My daughter is a senior this year and has been admitted to many top tier Universities. The school did a wonderful job preparing her for the SAT. The teachers and principal demonstrate an exceptional level of care and attention to each student. I was worried about the transition from a very large school to a relatively small school but the small class sizes have allowed for many personalized interactions. The staff genuinely know and care about each student by name. Even though it is a Catholic school, they welcome students of all faiths. This inclusivity is a testament to the school's commitment to creating a supportive and diverse community where every student feels valued and included. This was particularly important for our family, as we wanted our children to be part of an environment that celebrated diversity and embraced students from various backgrounds.
Safety was also important to us. The now gated and secure campus provides an added layer of peace of mind. You also can’t be the 15 mile drive to Hilton Head Island! We are happy to be Texas transplants!

Overall, JP2 is a great school, but like everything there are issues. Some select teachers have difficulties instructing and keeping control of a classroom. The technology provided (hp laptops) also have occasional issues but those can be fixed. Our house system encourages cooperation between grades (7-12) and provides a healthy competition for the house cup. We offer a variety of classes including honors, AP, and Project Lead the Way courses. We also offer multiple clubs and sports. And, JP2 is still growing, we have plans for more academic buildings and fields.

John Paul II Catholic school provides a variety of teaching approaches by different teachers. It is a small community where everyone can be a part of something. The handling of COVID-19 has been very successful, with constant sanitation, social distancing and a virtual option. The principal leads by example and truly cares about student and teacher opinions. There is a high percentage of involvement among students in clubs and athletics. If you plan to attend JPII, be ready to learn and be a part of the community.

I would rate it a 1 out of 10 based on the experiences we have had thus far. The coaches deserve a much higher rating. They are personable, kind & seem to take a genuine interest in the students. A private Catholic school should inviting, with a positive energy & compassion. Unfortunately, this is not what is encountered here.

Receive no or little instructions for assignments and when kids got their laptops, one did not work properly and were not set up to the criteria needed and required. Laptops continue to have issues & each laptop has been taken to tech to be fixed within the first 2 weeks of being issued. Kids are unable to print homework assignments & complete them on a timely basis.

Lack of instruction by some of the educators.

I feel the school could do a better job in this area. The school is 7 - 12 grade, it feels more like a preschool & being treated as thought they are still a small child. There is a definite power trip by the individual who is in charge of handing out the demerits. Students are not shown respect or compassion.

We have moved around & been part of several different school systems. Never in my life have we experienced anything like what we have experienced at JP2. While the coaching staff is great, that is where it stops. The administrators, which are also teachers, seem disconnected & unorganized. While I realize this is a relatively new school, and there are always going to be things to be worked out. The issues seem to be ongoing. One of the biggest insults this school offers is a hired staff person who goes around with pink post it notes (demerits) and purposefully & in a bullish fashion slams down the demerit on tables as students are eating their lunch. My child was harassed by her about something that he hadn’t set up yet on his laptop, because he wasn’t able to, due to it being an internal administrative tech issue. She threatened to give him a demerit. I’m absolutely appalled that a Catholic school, which should hire caring & nuturing individuals to represent their school & influence our children, instead allow an individual who is nothing less than a bully to take control.

Haven’t had the opportunity to see how the differences are supported.

Posted: December 6, 2018

As stated before, some staff themselves bully, harass & threaten students. To the point, my child would not leave their room after the first day of school. The administration probably doesn’t allow bullying amongst students though.

John Paul II just keeps getting better. Thanks to the quality teachers, coaches, and staff my child is flourishing. They have high expectations and deliver that message with kindness. The results are outstanding. A few academic achievements - a high percentage of our students are SC junior scholars; Sea Island science fair award winners; medalled on the National Spanish exam, JPII has already won the SCISA middle school math bowl, and received recognition at Model UN. My child is happily enjoying the academics, sports programs, and students and staff of JPII.
