My daughter has had a bad experience here simply because her teacher will not explain some math problems that she doesn't understand. Even though it's a magnet school, kids still need extra help. She's made to feel embarrassed asking questions. She's excelled in all other subjects except math where she got Bs

Meigs is a great school and has good education. Teachers are nice, and some are strict. It does go in lockdowns but things are usually happening outside the school. There have been fights and most of them have been outside, i have only seen two fights inside. I feel like teachers should try to watch students better, outside. While I’ve been at meigs there has been a lot of drama and rumors. I have seen some bullying and some teachers aren’t very good at handling it, but others are. Other than that, this is a great school and if you want a good education and stuff this is the school for that.

I went to Meigs for middle school and my family and I was ecstatic to find out I had gotten in, only to realize it's nothing more than an average middle school. The pacing of work is really unpractical. You have some teachers that don't care, the ones that assign too much work, and the average ones you wouldn't expect at a magnet school. None of the teachers there I would say gave me an amazing experience. The principal says he cares about things, but that's all talk and no show. The student body is generally diverse but there is literally only one black teacher. All of the other teachers are white. Meigs being located where it is (East Nashville), it was a hassle for me and most other people's families to transport them to and from school. Also, it's generally not a safe area. Lockdowns and lockouts are frequent. Overall, don't send your child to Meigs. Many overhype it when in reality Meigs is just another ordinary school with a title.

Overall, the experience is well. I am a Current student here, and the community was really bad. The school didn't really deal with a lot of fake rumors/bullying and they didn't care. Even fake rumors about me. This school was cool though. I really enjoyed Mr.Haney's class the most, and some of the other teachers are alright too. 60% of the fights happen outside of the school and 40% of the fights happen in school. Fights IN this school are VERY RARE compared to others. The community is very welcoming of new/midway comers in the school. I got a lot of new friends when I first joined on the first day. I hate how a lot of people hate others due to peer pressure or literally for no reason at all. Cyber-Bulling is the main thing that happens the most. If any of you are tryna share your Discord, TikTok, Insta, YT, etc. Be wise with who you share it with, a lot of people aren't that nice when they know nobody is gonna punish them.
I basically enjoyed this school, but a lot of stuff happens. I really like going to people who always are lonely and ask them to be my friend. It always ends up well.

The majority of the teachers my child had at Meigs were terrific and did their best to support the students. The leadership at the school is subpar. From what I saw as a parent, there was very little advocating by administration on behalf of the students. Complacent is the word that comes to mind when I consider Meigs leadership. We were excited about the opportunity when our child go in to the school, but were continually underwhelmed. We left Meigs after two years and do not intend to apply through the lottery to Meigs for our younger children.

I do not think the teachers at this school are any better than teachers at other schools. Sure, they develop good lesson plans for the average student, but if your student falls behind or begins to struggle they are unlikely to offer help or compassion.

I really like the Assistant Principal. He is kind and responsive. Dr. Underwood has a sort of false image-he seems amazing at first but as you spend longer at the school, it wears off. Forget about trying to speak with him about any issues you may be having unless you are a remarkably persistent person.

I am slightly disillusioned with Meigs overall. When my daughter got in through the lottery we were ecstatic. However I have found it to be no better than the average middle school. If I had it to do over again, I would not enroll her here. The drive downtown and the hassle of transportation coupled with the disappointing attitudes of administration and teachers make it not worth it.

They really load the kids down with lots of busywork. It also varies year by year. For example, in fifth grade my daughter was buried in homework, sixth grade she had hardly any, and in seventh grade its somewhere in the middle.

I hate it it’s only ONE black teacher unless you count cafeteria it would be three I mean all the rest of the teachers are white

I can't say enough about how much I love MEIGS. My daughter is challenged by the academics, but the teachers and staff are kind and motivating. They truly want these kids to succeed. I love the cultural diversity of Meigs and it seems to be a very safe, harmonious place for young people to mature and grow through the middle school years.

My only warning is that your "smart" kid may no longer be the smartest kid in the class anymore. Meigs is all smart kids. I think that's a GREAT thing, but 5th grade can be a shock and an adjustment when the child realizes that they are going to have to get organized and step it up to the next level. My now 7th grader has done just that. I'm so proud of the young woman she is becoming and I know that her amazing teachers at Meigs have played a big role in that.

Thank God for incredible public schools like this...

My daughter came from a really good Elementary School. I didn't think the next school would rise to the challenge of being better. I was wrong! Meigs is a phenomenal school. The teachers truly have a passion for what they do, and the students can feel that passion. Not having a bus system does make it a bit challenging at times, but if my child continues to perform at this high-achieving level, it will have all been well worth it! KUDOS to Meigs for being a pillar school in the state!

I have two children at Meigs. I consider it an average public school At orientationthis year, the 5th language teacher informed us that "they won't have to do things that they've already did". Yes, this is the way the language teacher speaks at the acedemic magnet school .

It took a little getting used to before my 7th grader felt comfortable here as he was accustomed to being well ahead of his classmates at other public schools. The faculty and staff have done everything possible to help acclimate him and we could not be more pleased. This is truly a great school!

These negative review are incorrect! I am a current 7th grader at Meigs. Meigs offers lots of activities to help you in your learning. For example, we have enrichment Wednesdays. Enrichment Wednesdays are while some children are taking test retakes, other students may have classes provided by their teachers and their related arts teachers for enrichment. We also have lots of clubs and sports, such as Girl's Volleyball (provided by 6th grade teacher, Ms. Shaffer) Boy's/Girl's Basketball ( provided by 7th grade teacher Mr. Smith), and many more student activities! Meigs is also a pathway to Hume-Fogg (#1 High school in Tennessee), to students scoring 85% average in the 7/8 grades. Meigs gives out ALL their grades ON TIME, unless their is a malfunction in the system. ALL Meigs teachers provide contact information that will be replied to a parent, a week at most. WE also have laptop carts and 2 iPad carts to also assist in learning! All of those negative reviews were untrue. Meigs is a great school with compassionate teachers to help your child in any help they need.

I personally think that all of the negative reviews below are not true. I go to Meigs and love it. I have been here for three years now and am looking forward to eighth grade there. Meigs is a perfect school, it has caring teachers and faculty. When I went to elementary school I never tried as much as I could have because all of the material did not challenge me. After being here for a while I feel like it has really prepared me for high school. Not only does it help me academically, but it also provides a great arts atmosphere. Meigs is a big, happy family. And I am so grateful to be a part of it. I LOVE MEIGS!!! <3

Meigs is top rated & we love Meigs! This is our daughters 4th & final year at Meigs and it's hard to believe that 4 years have passed so quickly. This school has the most excellent teachers, a principal that demonstrates strong leadership & compassion for our students. We will miss Meigs next year but this school has well prepared our daughter for the next chapter...Hume Fogg Academic Magnet School. For the 2 post I read that dislike Meigs, why is your child still here if you dislike Meigs so much? Maybe you should remove your student so that a parent that realizes a great school can have their child take your childs seat.

I attended Meigs from 2004-2008 (5th-8th) I truly LOVED this school.. I just graduated from high school c/o 2012 and often times I sit in my room and think about all the amazing things I did in school. Middle school at Meigs was the best!!! We did a lot of things that that other middle schools didnt get to do. Yes homework and rigorousness assignments do come with attending a top achieving school, but it was well worth the late night studying :-) Meigs prepared me for what high had to offer. I went to a public high school which made it even easier!! I began high school with 4 high school credits; Algebra 1, geometry, Spanish 1 & physical science. I graduated 6th in my class and I was also male valedictorian... I would recommend this school to ANYONE.. Mr. Haney, Mrs Hoskins, and Mrs. Bluestone were the best!!!!!!
