This is our first year at Farmington and we are blown away. From the events that take place every week to the special events like Grandparents Day and the welcoming of new families. We bought our house just to be in the Farmington School District and couldn't be happier! The daily curriculum is fantastic!

Unfriendly, focus on score only, no time for nurturing a decent person. Rules and regulations but not education.

I don't know what to say about this school, other than it is about the most secretive organization I have ever encountered. Having worked for a government lab we were far more responsive to the general public than Farmington Elementary is to the parents of its pupils. The two star rating should not be seen as a review of their academics. It is that I have no idea of whether their academics are poor or excellent. Trying to join the PTA did not work.

Outstanding! Both my children got an outstanding education, have scored high on achievement tests & enjoyed their experience at FES.

Posted: February 15, 2020

I’ve had 2 children attend FES. Neither child had much homework...more like reading goals & math app requirements per week. Very fair & appreciates!

Posted: February 15, 2020

We’ve never had a bad experience. Excellent teachers who want to be at school.

Posted: February 15, 2020

Lots of emphasis & kindness & being a friend to all

Posted: February 15, 2020

Loving, caring administrators who encourage students & staff

Posted: February 15, 2020

Very inclusive. All students are appreciated & welcomed by students & staff.

Posted: February 15, 2020

Emphasis on kindness & anti bullying. Buddy benches in play areas encouraging students to reach out to peers who might feel lonely.

School is great if you get good teacher. No doubt new school district, new principal and new teachers have a huge impact on school. They have great Apex program too...which really encourages kids to be competitive.

2 words for you all: "BEST SCHOOL" I have read other schools ratings and how everyone's is happy with their school but you know what makes a difference? That # 10 you see year after year after year. Other schools are going from 10 to 8 to 7 back to 9....that tells you something. My daughter is learning and improving so much and well behaved and that's all what I can ask for from a school. My wife is involved in school and she love to be around the teachers and staff. Good job Farmington Elementary and special thanks to Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Lasley and all the good teachers who made a great impact in our daughter's life. God bless you all

All the teachers we had (1st to 4th grade) were excellent and we love them and support them. The 5th grade teachers were a pain for students and parents

Posted: February 21, 2016

We loved everything except in the 5th grade (yes again :-) the amount of homework my kid was bringing home was unbelievable. We sit from 3:30 when he comes home to 10pm doing his homework. we had to drop soccer because he did not have time to do anything else except school. We had to complain about this to the principal many times before the crazy teachers returned to her sanity. We found out that she was new to the school so we think that was why she was all over the place.

The south is a different animal when compared to the rest of the country. I am not a big fan of many things that are thought in these schools and how teachers behave in their classrooms. However, I still think that this school has been the best option we have.

FES is nothing short of amazing! Top notch academics in a very challenging and competetive academic environment! Clubs, every sport, music, art, theatre and more are offered at the school or in Germantown! The teachers, admin, principal and police officer are passionate about children! This school is in a small municipal school district and parents are extremely involved. It would be hard to find a school this impressive anywhere else.

Ok, every parent has right to share their own opinions. Few years back I wrote a review about my bad experience in the school...Now things has changed a lot and want to share my good experiences too...New School district, new principal, new teachers, alot more improved Gifted Services...., they also introduced Chinese language, implementing new standards of syllabus...... everything is at its best....of course most important thing is to get good teacher....to have a happy falcon. So now I can say that no doubt this is the best school in Germantown.

I also don't think anyone reported the negative reviews. I believe this site randomly picks and chooses reviews, because I see several negative, uncensored reviews on here. I recommend talking to administration or other parents for advice if you are unhappy. I don't meet many unhappy falcon parents. PTA board moms seem to be a fountain of information and good advice, at least for me.

Talk about freedom of speech! I rate the school a 3-4,but the parents responsible for the rating nonsense in the past week a zero. A parent wrote a bad review (just her opinion of her experience, no offensive language or anything), and a crowd of parents "flagged" it since it looked "bad" (and post got removed) and then the same group of parents went in and wrote a bunch of positive reviews (all around 9/24) to "counter" the negative review. That is a ratings manipulation.

Posted: September 26, 2014

Everyone has a different experience and perception of what they believe is "top-notch" Parents are entitled to their opinion whether relative to one or many. Don't disregard a negative review or buy into a positive review. Reviews are written for individuals to share their opinions so please be respectful to others even if it doesn't agree with you.

Posted: September 26, 2014

I see the unfavorable review posted this week was removed. This site is suppose to be a safe place for reviews to be posted and viewed by others. There was nothing inappropriate with the removed post so it looks like it was removed just because someone didn't like it. That's completely wrong. We are new to the area and we rely on reviews to make our best decisions because for most people not familiar with an new area it is the best we have. So it's a great disservice to censor someone's post and remove it without merit. Our children are new to FES along with many others so as a parent I think it is upsetting to see that someone's opinion was shut down because another disagreed with it. I hope GreatSchools will repost the review so it has a fair voice to be heard.

I cannot say enough great things about this school! The administration is energetic, attentive, responsive, and involved. The principle opens the car doors for the kids at morning drop off and knew my son's name within the first couple of weeks at school! The teachers, who are all cream of the crop from the district, are caring and dedicated on so many levels. I receive regular emails and phone calls from our teachers and it really puts my mind at ease. The curriculum is strong and challenging and all of my son's teachers have done an amazing job of individualizing it to fit him so he doesn't get bored. They even introduced Chinese as a foreign language this year, which used to be my only complaint about the school (not having a language offering). The PTA is what really distinguishes this school though, in my opinion. Everyone pitches in and really makes sure that everyone has what they need and that the kids have the best school experience possible. I love the neighborhood feel of this sweet school and wouldn't trade it for anything. Moving to Germantown to attend Farmington Elementary has been the best decision our family has made. Go Falcons!

Farmington has been a wonderful experience for our family. I'm a former teacher at private schools and Farmington is leaps and bounds above the Memphis private schools in all areas. My child is always challenged and the administration is always in tune with my needs as a parent. I have never seen administration that is so dedicated to the students. Rain or shine they are outside greeting the students and loading the cars at the end of each day. I am pleased with our decision to pull our child out of private school to send him to Farmington. I cannot wait for our other child to have such a great experience!

What a gem of Germantown...we have had wonderful teachers who go out of their way to make our child feel loved and needed. I feel the administration defines coming alongside parents in their child's education. I feel very connected to the school via regular emails and phone calls when needed. We have a special needs child and the SPED department is exceptional. Typical peers are warm and friendly and see my child as just another student and not someone different. Great parent involvement and I love seeing the children laughing and interacting as they walk home from school. We are so happy here!

Top Notch Neighborhood school. They have outstanding teachers and a great Gifted program. They also offer great after-school enrichment e.g. foreign languages, sports, robotics to name a few.

Our family has been blessed greatly at Farmington! My husband and I were both products of private schools, and we were slightly apprehensive about sending our children to a public school. I can definitely say that Farmington has greatly exceeded our expectations, and we have never looked back. Just a few months after my son began kindergarten, I noticed administrators and teachers of other grades were addressing him by name in car line and making an effort to speak to me as well. The office staff greets me by name each time I come in the school. The teachers have pushed both of my children when they needed to be challenged and have made a conscious effort to nurture and show kindness to my children when they have experienced some typical childhood growing pains. The PTA is unmatched and coordinates all kinds of special events that are such special memories for the students. The drama department puts on productions that could rival most high school plays. Farmington also has other wonderful enrichment opportunities such as Chinese and violin. I am so thankful for FES!

If you get a good teacher the school is wonderful, but i don't understand how they allow teachers that have a mean, destructive influence on a child. My son had a horrible experience with his 3rd grade teacher back in 2007-2008, she was mean and made all the kids laugh and bully my son. we were new immigrants and unfortunately didn't know how to fight for our son, we had several teacher/parent/counselor/principal conferences. The next 2 years they placed my son with wonderful teachers that restored his self esteem, but I don't understand how this teacher kept working at the school after all what she did, and our son was not the only one, there were several families that had a terrible experience with her.

This is an outstanding school. The principal is committed to excellent, the staff assist him, and the teachers are there to set the example so the children succeed. It cannot be easy to teach day after day in a school setting, but the professionals make it a point to work with and teach their charges. The results are outstanding. Very bright children are kept at the level where they are not bored, average children are taught at their level, and children who are challenged are always assisted. The school administrators, staff. and teachers deserves the highest accolades for not simply teaching children and producing winners academically, but also for working with the children to ensure that their physical, emotional, and developmental needs are nurtured.

Outstanding. This is a cutting edge school. There is nothing static. The principal, staff, teachers, assistants, parents, and child's are constantly improving the school and no grass grows under their feet. Every year is better than the year before. Wonderful hardworking school regardless of individual child's challenges, the extra mile is always gone for that particular child.

I really admire this lucky parent. I did not feel the devotion from some of the home room teachers. Some teachers left their kids for two months because of lost of relatives. Some kids have multiple substitute teachers in the beginning of school years, for up to almost two months. From the view of kids/parents, should this be better managed?

I am a mother of 4 and have 2 step-children. That makes a total of 6 children I have had the pleasure of raising. Between Shelby county redistricting, private schools, pre-schools, high schools, middle schools and moving I have had experience with 16 different schools in Shelby County. Farmington Elementary is by far the worst of them all. They focus too much on the rules and not enough on educating the children. The atmosphere is unfriendly to say the least. I did my youngest a disservice by sending her to Farmington her kindergarten year. She is far behind what my other children were in kindergarten. It was so bad that I almost transferred her to another school the last 9 weeks of school, but felt it would do her a disservice not to keep her with her classmates the remaining of her kindergarten year. I will not return, even through I am living in school district. I am opting for private education, and hoping to possible get a transfer back to Riverdale. The administration focuses too much on the RULES and not enough time educating the children. I feel sorry for those parents that do not realize there are better choices. If I could give a negative star I would.

As parents we have the right to share our experiences positive or negative. We relocated to Memphis two years ago and have had experiences in two prior school districts, both nationally ranked, outstanding public school districts. While the majority of parents whose children have only attended Farmington have had positive experiences we have a lot to compare to. Children are taught the same grade level curriculum even if a child has mastered the grade level entering that grade. I believe Farmington's minimum for the APEX program is much lower than most nationally ranked districts. Many comfortable teachers with little progressive approach to teaching, lots of worksheets and everyone reading/doing the same thing. We were most concerned with low math scores as our previous school was in the 95th percentile. It's shocking that with PhD administrators there is little if any effort to improve the school or offer cutting edge education. The school is rigid and it seems the parent volunteers do a lot to keep the school running. The focus is definitely on kids sitting down, being quiet or else conduct marks. The school needs to be more nurturing to children & supportive of families.
