This school sucks, I go to this school and I’m telling you do NOT go, I have social anxiety and my mom went to give the counselor the plan 504 and they literally said I didn’t need it because I didn’t have low grades, also people here are rude, someone even told me to move out of the way and the students are loud, especially the teachers they don’t do nothing, the math teacher especially they barely assign us work. The teachers don’t teach right they just… show us the stuff and that’s all, they don’t raise our grades and there’s no locks in the bathroom, one girl almost walked in on me while I was peeing, people are rude and there’s barely any nice people there, DO NOT GO I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL

This is my second year in this school and I think it's one of the best Shelby County schools
I can't say how good this school is.
Always there's a new thing to do to learn to make you happy.
They have one of the best ESL teachers you going to see.
Learning there is so fun

Very disappointing. My son had no issues at GES but GMS is the opposite. Nothing but problems from day one. Constant schedule changes, teachers do not respond to emails and neither do the principals. Excessive bullying takes place and the teachers ignore it.

They are not willing to work with children with disabilities. They sweep the issue under the rug and your child continues to fall behind

There is no punishment enforced by teachers. They will see and ignore.

This school has an overall effective approach to homework, but there are experiences with some teachers that are very unpleasant. There are instances when students are given an extreme amount of homework that is more like busy-work. To add on, this homework doesn't have clear instructions or communication, nor does it have sufficient amount of time for the assignment.

Most of the teachers I've had experiences with have returned e-mails and helped enrich my child's young mind, but there are a few that she claims have not taught at all this year and waste core time.

Teachers don't assist very much social-wise. Socially, students are left to their own devices; hence, not provided common character values.

The school's discipline is not as effective as it could be. Students are mainly threatened with Saturday school or detention. According to my child, this obviously is not effective.

Most teachers will assist a student who doesn't understand. If the teacher can't do it with one method, they will keep trying until the student understands.

I personally am disappointed in the optional program at this school. My child has had a hard time learning here; effectively, that is. Students have no respect for each other, or towards authority for that matter. Students are not given hardly any motivation to succeed. Teachers that do not actually teach do need to be removed from the school setting, as the might/are getting in the way of the next-generation's education and future. I personally would not recommend this school to anyone.

i would rate it a 3/10. They focus on the kids who go above and beyond even though they reward them with not-so-energetic parties. The school itself is unorganized because of how long it takes to hire teachers for positions in the middle of the school year and just have a long-term sub and the students are lost during TCAP and not have enough knowledge to understand the next grade level.Not all of the teachers do a good job of teaching what the kids need to know and just gives them busywork and expects them to read over what they didn't understand in class, even though the students should depend on the teacher to help them understand. Also, the school likes to make things cost a lot. The jackets,hats, and hoodies are $30 or so. The gym clothes that they're supposed to buy or they get half credit in the class costs $10. They agenda books that they make them buy costs $5, even though someone can buy a cheaper, better looking planner at the dollar store. Even to join PTA costs $40, and to actually do something within the PTA you have to be a president,vice president, secretary, treasurer, etc. Overall, this school has strict policies towards everyone, even though its not very effective, makes everything cost something, and pays no attention to the students who are struggling and/or need help within the classroom.

all the principle does is call everyone into the auditorium and tells the kids not to bully by threatening to take away certain actives they enjoy instead of jst punishing the kids who started it

Not enough effort to educate students that require that extra encouragement . Principal seems to be more focused on students with a certain economic status. Very greedy PTO. One example is that on dress down days 5$ per student is required, which is not based on behavior, which is sending students the message that only money matters. Example: $ 20 dollars to join PTO, plus $40 per child for dress down day. $ 30 dollar hoody . children that are average are not getting that extra boost from teachers. Teachers are slow responding to email s. The principal doesn't answer emails unless the student has a issue with another student. Germantown Middle's overall performance is declining, due to emphasis more on on money and fundraisers, of which the seller isn't benefitting from

This school has fabulous, effective, and experienced teachers who really work with students individually to motivate them to succeed. The students in turn motivate each other - it is a great environment. Wonderful programs include the award-winning bands and choirs, both French and Spanish programs, and too many fun clubs to mention. Superior academics through the optional program, including STEM classes. Everyone is made to feel welcome. Very international - all students will feel at home, no matter what their origins. This is my 6th year (2 students x 3 years each), and I am sad that it is my last (although looking forward to my youngest advancing to high school). Just went on an amazing band and choir competition trip, and the kids were wonderfully behaved, the parents are very supportive and involved, and the teachers love what they do and they love our children.

It is nothing short of amazing what can be done with the support of Administration, Teachers and Parents! The moment you walk in the office, you know you are going to be part of something special. The concern that administration and teachers have for each and every student is refreshing. As a parent, the comfort in knowing that your child is receiving a "top notch" education is of the utmost importance. This is such a special school on so many levels!!!!

My son is in 7th grade and this is his second year at GMS. This is the first year that GMS has been part of the optional program through Shelby County and I am very impressed. He is in Language Arts CLUE, pre-algebra, honors science and social studies, STEM and French. He will also have Spanish next semester. Class sizes are small ranging from about 16 in his smallest class to 25 in his STEM class. They have also introduced many new sports programs and the band remains top-notch. The teachers seem eager and well-qualified. Furthermore, I have found the new administration and PTSA to be extremely helpful, smart and responsive.

The current principal is a real go-getter. Bullying is NOT on the rise and in fact GMS is growing and thriving and the only kids who have come in from far away have not been bused in but have been driven in by their parents as part of our new optional (honors) program. Parents whose kids who are currently part of other school systems should really focus their opinions where they actually have real knowledge about what is currently going on.

A few years ago this school was not doing well. It received a new principal last year and things were really looking up. During the formation of Municipal schools in Germantown, this school was left out and will remain under the county. It's former principal left to work for the Municipal system and the new principal is taking it back where it was. The old principal made it a point to get to know every student. My child had not even spoken to the new one months after she was there. It has descended into a prison like atmosphere the way they change classes and the way lunch is conducted. It is a guilty until proven innocent situation where they are punished for what they might do. Teacher morale is low which makes its way down to the students. Bullying is making a big come back, and the once improving school is back on the decline. Now with the municipal schools, most kids here are bussed in from far away and there are almost no neighborhood kids. Very sad what has happened to a once thriving school.

The school overall is great!! I love it! Buttttt, the librarian is very.....dramatic. If you ever lose your books, watch out! She will be P-O'd. MAJORLY.

My son attended Germantown Elementary School K-5 and had a terrific experience there. We were concerned about the transition to middle school, but he has loved it so far. His teachers have high expectations but are caring and are helping these youngest students learn their way around. The band program is outstanding. We love the diversity of the faculty and student body and also the high amount of school spirit. Parents are involved in their children's education, and the school has a wonderful PTA. We love GMS!

We recently moved here from Illinois and our son is a 6th grader. I'm impressed with the curriculum and quality staff at Germantown Middle School. The diversity of the student body and teaching staff adds to the quality of this school.

My school is Germantown Middle. My son attended Germantown Elementary (K-5) and is now a 6th grader at the GMS. We've been very impressed with both schools smart, caring teachers and a high level of parent involvement. We've had a GREAT experience here.

My school is Germantown Middle School. My son is a 6th grader and having such a great experience. My older son attended GMS too. The GMS has the best teachers.They are very caring!! They want each child to succeed! GMS has the BEST PTA! They do so much for the school. Finally Germantown Middle School is so fortunate to have such a wonderful principal, Mr Cathey!!

My daughter came to GTown Middle as a 6th Grader this year. So far she loves it! We moved out of Fayette County to put her in a better school system. She is now top of her class, and loves her teachers....That says alot these days! Teachers who know the students, and actually care about them, and how they are doing in school, life, and home. They are a great faculty, and deserve a huge pat on the back! Congrats! ...and 'Thank you!' for caring about our children!
