Lamplighter is a glorified private school where the Montessori aspects are few and far between. I would say if you’re looking for a Hutchison or MUS experience they are similar, which unfortunately is not Montessori in the slightest. They constantly called us in for our child having emotional regulation issues due to the loudness of the new class and the tall ceilings. They are hugely understaffed and I don’t feel like they have the parents or children’s best interest at heart. I think they are more worried about how they appear and come off, it’s a real club there like the people who have been there are clubbed up and don’t let other people in, including the staff in the front office (very clicky). We took our son out and then decided not to return. That was the best decision we made because for the money it caused more stress than actually helped.

Our family has been part of the Lamplighter Montessori School community for six years, from the toddler program through early childhood, and we could not be more grateful for the experience.

What sets this school apart is the genuinely warm, caring, and inclusive community. Every child and family is treated with kindness, respect, and equality, creating an environment where children feel safe, valued, and supported.

The classrooms are exceptionally well-run, with two teachers in every classroom. This allows for outstanding supervision, classroom management, and individualized attention. The teachers truly know and care about each child, fostering both independence and confidence while nurturing a lifelong love of learning.

The happiest testament to the school's success is the children themselves. The students are visibly happy, engaged, and excited to be there. My child developed a genuine love of learning and has looked forward to going to school every single day, a gift that will benefit him for years to come.

Another standout quality is the leadership. The Head of School is, without question, the most involved I have ever encountered. She is present at every school event, knows the families, and is deeply invested in the success and well-being of the entire community. The school puts tremendous thought and effort into its programs, celebrations, and family events, and her dedication is evident. She never misses a beat and sets the tone for the caring, engaged culture that makes this school so special.

Beyond the school day, the summer camp and aftercare programs are excellent. They provide the same level of care, enrichment, and sense of community that families experience throughout the school year.

If you are looking for a nurturing, safe, and enriching environment for your child, I cannot recommend this school highly enough. For our family, it has been far more than a school. It has been a second home.

This school presents extraordinarily well. We were in awe and so excited to send our child here. In the end, we were deeply disappointed and withdrew our child before the end of the school year. Please do not send your child here if you prioritize transparency, being included in the happenings and day to day matters regarding your child, problem solving, clear communication, and honesty. They pride themselves in regarding the emotional safety and well being of children yet do the exact opposite. Paying privately for school is done to ensure a different standard and experience than public school. If something happens to your child you WILL NOT know about it unless and until your child can tell you what happened, luckily ours was able to do so. Even then, you will be invalidated. They do not participate in including parents in the loop when an event happens between children. They expect children to handle matters with a skill set most adults do not possess. You will absolutely NOT get clear answers when you address matters that pertain to your child. In very specific happenings with our child, we were met with “we did not see what happened.” Trust was completely broken and we were lied to by the leader of the school and then dismissed when we caught her in a lie. They don’t deal with problems they just wish them away and hope you will stop speaking about the matter. It’s a great school as long as your child doesn’t have any occurrences with another child, which is not possible. We were heart broken that we had to remove our child due to the adults in charge not taking accountability or responsibility.

Our experience at this school was horrible and filled with stressful months. What kind of teacher threatens to expel a toddler at preschool? Our toddler did not have issues at the previous traditional preschool. They made our child to seem like a monster as the teacher gave out false diagnosis (ADHD, social emotional psychological issues etc) that our pediatrician determined was not valid. I’m so glad it’s all over, we are out of Lamplighter Montessori school and we can now happily move on to a regular traditional school.

We have been at the school for 5 years, through lower elemenatary and now upper elementary. My children spend their days at Lamplighter in a environment that is kind, accepting, encouraging and academically challenging. The children are driven by their own natural desire to learn and explore which develops a true love of learning. Each classroom is a community where the children contribute to the successful operation of that community, a culture that is unique to Montessori and Lamplighter, an accredited Montessori school. My children, one of which is quiet and reserved, the other an outgoing social butterfly have been equally succesful and feel a sense of belonging and acceptance in their school environment. Long time Montessori teachers and a dedicated administration work together and are focused, aligned, and committed to the students and Lamplighter community. Lamplighter is a hidden gem in our community and we absolutely love our school!

Always open and supportive community. Staff is always available to assist when needed. We toured 2 other local Montessori programs in the area and this one was the most solid and stood out by having an observable curriculum.

My daughter has attended this school for two years and has loved everyday. She loves her teachers and has access to one on one time with them at anytime she needs. My daughter considers the principal to be one of her friends . She has such a positive energy that it is shown in all aspects of the school. We truly appreciate the positive effect this school has had on our daughter and we look forward to many more years . So grateful to be apart of this Lamplighter Montessouri family.

The entire learning philosophy is based on learning at your own pace. Students learn as fast as they can or take a little more time if they need to.

Posted: May 6, 2018

There is a strong sense of community so students aren’t inclined to bully each other.

Posted: May 6, 2018

No homework until students are older and it’s meaningful content.

Posted: May 6, 2018

All teachers are certified and hold advanced degrees. They have also been teaching there for a long time and are very dedicated and knowledgeable.

Montessori philosophy is entrenched in being a good person and being an upstanding citizen.

New leadership has added new ideas and growth.

My daughter went through their entire program from early childhood through middle school and she is a very motivated college student now. She wants to be a lawyer and attributes her love of learning to her Montessori upbringing.

LMS has been an education savior for our son. He was struggling with public school's chaos and traditional learning. He is not "special needs" per se, but he learns better by touching and seeing so the Montessori method works well with him. Also, the loud, screaming, competitive environment spurred by public school classrooms is a complete 180 from Lamplighter classrooms. Go in for a tour and you will be amazed at how calm and nurturing the classroom setting is. All of the kids are sweet to each other and have respect for their teachers. Even when our kids have birthday parties somewhere the employee "party host" always comments as to how calm and polite our kids our. If you want to experience a refreshing change of pace amid the unstable re-structure of local school districts give them a call and take a tour. You will be glad you did.
