USN is hands down the private best school in the state- top notch academics, dedicated teachers and they value diversity. The curriculum is tough but flexible and the kids are all extremely gifted. The college outcomes are unmatched and my kids were more than well prepared for college. Highly recommend

I would like to echo the previous reviewers. My son was jumped by a kid in the gym but because his parents are benefactors (think over ten grand) he was let off the hook. Further investigations revealed harassment to younger female students who did not feel safe. Teachers expressed concern but admin did nothing . My daughter who is also biracial experienced some instances of bullying. She learned a lot and had some excellent teachers. I moved the younger sibs to Central Magnet In Murfreesboro and am very happy where we see rigorous academics, ethnic and economic diversity.

Pretty bad. They have a few great courses but the rest aren’t paid any attention, often times it feels like the teachers care as much about their jobs as the students do the material, which is to say not at all. The administration is often times discriminatory and unfair, favoring students who’s families donate or have connections to the school. There was one student who they refused to expel despite multiple accusations of sexual harassment (to both girls and boys) because his parents were on the school board. Overall hell hole tbh

I attended this school for 8 years and the number one thing I learned is that if your family doesn't have money, they don't care about your well being. Students who come from wealthy families frequently get away with drinking/using drugs on campus, calling other students racial/homophobic slurs, and cheating. I've noticed throughout the years that the administration is quick to punish female students when they are hurt by male students/faculty instead of punishing the males who actually did wrong. Teachers frequently refused to let students retake tests/quizzes they missed when they were hospitalized (myself included). Many of my former classmates that were POC or members of the LGBTQ also expressed that they faced many microaggressions from students and staff.

Both of my children were at USN for 13 years. It prepared them really well for college, but better yet, it prepared them for the world. It has a strong focus on diversity, and it always seeking to expand creative teaching methods to best advantage for the students.

I've been at this school for 13 years, and in the past few years things have changed for the worst. Administration does not take responsibility for wrongdoing, they don't know how to handle students with mental illness, when something goes wrong with a student, don't expect much from the head of high school or any of the administration. They don't care. All they care about is their image, and they are willing to do anything to protect it.

My student has had several good teachers. Some are kinder than others. All are well educated, and it appears that most put forth good effort.

The overall spirit of the school must be one of integrity, compassion and respect for it to develop it in its students. The staff performs as instructed to stay employed, even if it conflicts with their personal values.

USN's non-discrimination policy does not extend to students with documented learning variances or ADHD. Although tuition dollars support a full-time HS learning specialist, don't be mislead. Her job is to deny access acts to support for such students, no matter how little is required. Weigh this carefully when considering graduating from USN's High School. Denying access to simple accommodations like extended time or non-distracting setting, refusing to provide a Student Support Plan, and application for accommodations to the College Board/ACT will negatively impact your student's record. Furthermore, self-advocation and parent advocation on behalf of your student results in sabotage and retaliation. You will be ignored in writing and in person, and your student barred from other opportunities at the school.

Cash is king at USN. There is an arrogance that they control college acceptance. The students come to believe they are nothing without USN. While they display visual diversity, hidden differences are not embraced. There is little to no economic diversity, nor acceptance or support of learning differences. Don't be fooled by the full-time HS Learning Specialist. She limits access to accommodations to those with physical differences, as opposed to assisting academically challenged students to realize their full potential. Beware, private schools are not bound by public school laws, so choose a school that has a history of integrity. If you are seeking a responsive administration with morals and values, USN is not a fit.

To the parent stating the school has a problem with ethnic people - As a student at the school since kindergarten (and now a rising junior), I have always felt that diversity was pushed upon me. In the fourth grade, we began mindfulness every Thursday to reflect on ourselves and those around us. Topics were often centered around racism, sexism, classism, etc. They made sure to teach me the earliest that we could grasp it to accept everyone. Fifth grade included a year long study on the civil rights movement of the 1960s in not one but two classes. We traveled to Memphis and Little Rock to further our learning, because we read Warriors Don't Cry by Minnie Jean Brown, who visits the school every year to meet the younger kids and educate them. The USN DIRECTOR OF DIVERSITY has been around for years, developed the middle and high school groups ALBANIE (Asian, Latino/a, Black, African, Native American, Indigenous, European), to show students how to live in the real world that has racism. USN provides time and prayer space for anyone, mainly Muslim peoples, when they need. I've never seen any community more adept and accepting of everyone. As for the homework, it is just something that any above average college preparatory school will have. You don't see all schools churning out students attending each Ivy League, often more than one at a certain school. All this to say, I know that my time at USN has prepared me for all college and life can throw my way and I wouldn't change my school, my upbringing, my life, for the entire world.

Our child is happy at USN. We like the plentiful opportunities and casual atmosphere. People are friendly and welcoming. It's a comfortable environment for learning and growth. There are many ways to get involved. It can be a little overwhelming. Parents tend to be type A overachievers and it rubs off on their kids. The school culture is cooperative rather than competitive. USN is what you make it. USN is more diverse than our local school. But diversity at USN is not just demographic, it also applies to student abilities, talents, interests, points of views, etc. USN is inclusive and fosters a culture of acceptance and celebration of our differences. The USN community has a small town feel. Everyone knows each other even though we come from all over the greater Nashville area. USN feels like an international school with a broad spectrum of cultures represented. USN is fun but hard work. The school believes that kids excel further when they're challenged. Athletics are available and encouraged, but secondary to academics. I do not consider USN a sports school. I'm sorry to hear the student's experience in the review below. Our experience at USN has been very positive.

This school has a very unfriendly environment to those of non-white ethnic backgrounds. There is an OVERWHELMING amount of work and homework and overall it was not a good experience for me or my son.. This school does not take responsibly for their actions and will never admit when they do something wrong. It is not worth the amount of money it costs.

An amazing school! The teachers make sure that their students are really learning, and the students make everyone feel included. It almost feels like a second home to me, contrary to the comment about "little rich girls".

USN has made my school experience a breeze. All of the teachers have amazing work ethic and care for all of the students. I feel supported and ready to take on anything that adulthood has to offer. My amazing time at USN will always be special to me, the amazing classes they have to offer as well as the opportunities in Arts, Academics, and Athletics put the cherry on top. Thank you USN!!
